I've been convicted of a murder that I didn't commit. And I literally mean an actual murder I didn't commit -- it's not something back home that I'm just too chickenshit to fess up to.

And the thing is, Veridical stuck this D/s collar on me, so at first I thought it was just making up some excuse to avoid admitting it was jealous that I'm already in a relationship. But then it turned out I'm not the only one being punished.

So who all out there has to deal with this bullshit today?

[ He sits at a canvas, carefully painting a pair of naked dudes having buttsex. (Not anyone in the prison, just a couple of random dudes.) It's pretty good, too. He doesn't stop even when he senses Helix peering over his shoulder. ]

Hey.

[His initial response is almost keymash worthy, eyes slightly widened and caught a little off guard. Definitely not what he was expecting to see. The fact that the gay porn Dirk is making actually isn't half-bad also doesn't help. He stares, dumbfounded for a moment, head tilting slightly as he studies it before the other actually acknowledges his presence.

He sort of shakes himself out of it to try and come up with a cool, snarky remark. No need letting the other know it stifled him for a minute there. He was almost a little scandalized if kind of aroused.
]

Guess that's one way you can give a big ol' fuck you to their punishments.

I refuse to believe they didn't know what they were gettin' into when they said I had to paint something for public display.

[Snickering softly and still watching him work.]

Yeah, that's a good point. Then again these wardens actually provide us with porn and toys and everything so... guess they don't mind much.

[Tilting his head the other way as if that improves the angle.]

I never would have pegged you for the type. Getting some of your sexual frustrations out on canvas?

The type to draw porn? Dude, it was one of my favorite pastimes back in Waterworld.

[ He sits back to let the paint dry before he moves on. He's learned his lesson from his last failed attempt at painting. It's nothing like drawing with a tablet. ]

Anyway, Roxy, Jake, and me are having a joint birthday party in a few days. You're coming.

No shit?

[He almost asks if he's ever drawn porn of people he knew but is derailed by the almost-command.]

Do I have to bring a gift?

Yes.

Right now the plan is to have it in Sector 6. You know the funny thing about Sector 6? [ He gestures to his headset lying on a nearby table -- he took it off when Helix headed over. ] Communication malfunctions.

Huh. [A thoughtful pause.]

I think it's more than that. I know someone that hid in Sector 6 to avoid therapy. The bots didn't so much as bother him. Though he was punished for skipping.

And the Wardens could figure out by process of elimination who was in Sector 6 when the murders occurred. You said it was you and some others right? But obviously not just anyone? I mean I wasn't called in cause I wasn't in there, even if I've got enough of a violent background to potentially be suspect.

The life signs of the wasps were what clued them in to anything though.

I'm not so sure we can be tracked in there. I kind of want to test that theory and see what we can get away with. It's just a matter of how.

Precisely. They're obviously able to detect when murders take place, if not who the culprits are, but the question of other crimes is still up in the air.

Not to mention the question of who they would charge if everyone was there at the time.

I'm glad to have your support.

Everyone? [Hmm, more thinky expressions.]

Hmm, are you sure you should bring the glitch to the Warden's attention? On such a large scale like that it might prompt them to fix it. I mean if there are a few of us wandering in there and getting lost or something, it's no big thing but... if something happens with most of the dome there?

It could mean we'd lose our Make-Out Point.

They're already aware of it. It's basically statistically impossible that they aren't. Veridical didn't say I did it -- it said I couldn't be cleared of the crime. So if they could have fixed the error by now, they would have.

Well, yeah, that should be obvious otherwise there is some major glitch in their observation programming.

My thought is they might not be concerned about it for now because there has only been one small incident involving a murder of other inmates. If something else happens with a huge group of us, they might find it worrisome enough to fix it. Understand?

If we do things and don't get caught it'll be left alone but if too much happens and it becomes a problem for the wardens then we'll lose the chance to use Sector 6 to our advantage.

Hmm, good point.

[ He considers that for a moment, then nods. A mass orgy of murder and mayhem is out. ]

Still, I don't want to assume we can use it for whatever we want without some more experimentation. I'll attack one Sector 6 inmate, but won't kill it, and I'll talk to Jake about testing out some unlicensed sex.

[Wow Dirk, just toss that out there all casual like. It's progress though.] You two are finally getting serious huh?

[He clears his throat.]

Anything I can do to help? Since I'm gonna be there anyway, I want to see how this pans out and experiment with it too.

[That... isn't what it sounds like.]

How about some good old-fashioned littering?

I hope you're joking, that is the lamest crime.

[Thinking.]

Tell ya what, leave the shit-kicking to me. You have fun boning your new boyfriend. I'll go punch the snot out of a wasp or something. I don't mind getting high again.

Well it's not like we both can't go hunt something down? I'm sure there's no shortage of things to punch.

[There might be other ways, if Jake says no.]

Not planning on hanging out at your own party for long?

I'll be there for the food and inevitable gifts, but I already live with most of the people I'd be interested in hanging out with.

[A little hiss.] That stings Strider.

[ Eyeroll and a scoff. He said most. ]

I'm not really sure. We might not even get to bring stuff back home with us when we leave, so that's like asking a dying man what he wants.

[So something that would probably only be good for while they're stuck in the dome. Even if Helix doesn't really believe anyone leaves, they just get put to sleep for the rest of eternity. So maybe it is really like asking a dying man what he wants to do before it's all over.]

Hm, well I can't cook so that's out of the question.

How bout a sparring partner that isn't currently your love interest?

That'd be pretty cool. [ More like a sparring partner he won't be able to instantly beat down. He hopes, anyway. Jake's enthusiasm is nice, but, well... ] Sure.
