[At first, one might assume PM sounds perfectly calm. But if the listener has a good ear, they may pick up that it is that razor-thin sort of calm that comes from being in a lot of pain, and possibly shock.]

Greetings. This is PM. We have a post office again. [A pause.] It is in Sector 2, but it will not be ready for business until tomorrow.

[There's another pause.] Does anyone know where the hospital is located?

[OOC: Jack Noir caught her unprepared and was completely gross in her general direction. Violence and eye gore warning for the linked thread.]

Oh, of course not. If anything stopped the mail, proper civilization wouldn't even work.

Then I'm glad to hear nothing serious has happened.

That is why you are a good boy, Dirk. You care about the machinations of society.

Where in Sector 5 is it?

[ Now that he hasn't memorized; he returns to the map, finds the location, and reads it off to her.

Then, ]
We don't have mail where I'm from. If I'm still stuck here tomorrow, I look forward to seeing how the process works.

Yes, absolutely. Tomorrow I will have an open house. You will be invited.

If you have not left, I mean.

[ Sounds like she's pretty sure she's all right. He won't pry, then. ]

See you then.

[Voice]

You don't have mail?!

[ It's so sudden he almost laughs. Almost. ]

No.

It's a long story and I'm not going to keep you away from timely medical care.

Talking to you does not prevent me from going to the hospital, you silly boy. And besides, this is important.

You've never gotten a letter? Or a parcel? This is terrible.

I haven't. I've sent emails, though. That strikes me as faster and more efficient, anyway.

[ No, Dirk. You know not to whom you speak. ]

What- no! I mean, e-mails have a place, but-

There is no replacing the elegance of a well-written letter! The smell of the paper, the feel of the envelope in your hands, the gentle weight of a well-balanced care package.

An e-mail does not provide the excitement and mystery of opening a letter from a friend, of discovering new thoughts and ideas in such a simple and humble form!

Is this like a fetish thing for you?

What. [She may be injured and in pain, but she can take a moment to be insulted and a little embarrassed]

You're related to Dave, aren't you.

And for your information, it is absolutely nothing scandalous at all!

Good, you understand. Thank you.

[ Papercuts in sensitive areas are a serious do not want. ]

No, I respect it. There's a difference. Maybe one day I'll understand, if I have the misfortune of growing old and grey here.

We all need hobbies, Dirk. I very well don't have a kingdom to rule while in prison.

And it's an important job, as well.

[ Oddly, what occurs to him is what a stark contrast there is between PM and the queen of Derse -- impostor though the latter is. A ruler who actually cares about her people and the society they live in, down to the minutiae like the goddamn postal service. ]

Good luck with it.

And with that scratch you're headed to the hospital for.

[PM would argue this also applies to the actual Queen of Derse if she could read narration brackets. Because she is so rude and a little scary.]

Thank you, Dirk. I am sure that I will be just fine.
