Day 197 / Midday / Video
[Jack's been here a couple of hours. He spent the first hour disbelieving and furious, but wary of letting that show too much after his initial, instinctive bout of yelling – which he didn't broadcast, although sorely tempted to, because he's been kidnapped before and he doesn't want to get in too much trouble until he knows far better what he's up against. So he kept his head down and started exploring to get the lay of the land and find out what he had to work with here.

[And then he found the beach. He'd never lost his love of the sea from growing up beside an ocean, and he was out of the horrible orange jumpsuit and into the water before he'd even thought about it. Even if the waves and the sun on his back weren't quite natural, an hour or so of vigorous swimming calmed him down a lot. Enough to make his first transmission on the network with a decent amount of composure and a fair imitation of his normal cocky grin.

[He's still naked, by the way. It's kind of lucky (or maybe not, depending on your point of view) that the video doesn't extend below the waist. Not that Jack cares what you see. He's sprawled on the beach, the waves breaking gently behind him, feeling the sun on his tanned skin, and he's smiling. After all these years of practice, it's a pretty convincing smile.]

So. MarinaNova. [He rolls the name around his mouth, trying it out.] What've we got? Any hot babes here? Or hot guys – I'm really not picky. Maybe some Italian stud who actually looks good in orange? There'd better be something good to pass the time if I'm supposed to be here for the rest of my life!

[More warmly than before, but a strong note of sarcasm coming through.]

Oh, well, clubs and restaurants, that makes it all better. At least I can wine and dine those hot guys and gals I'm hoping are here in style!

((OOC: Sorry, I don't know why he's decided to be nasty with *her*, since she's probably the nicest person who's responded yet, but that's what's coming through... :-( ))

[She is a bit startled, but she's used to people being upset when they arrive. She tries not to take it personally. It's not their fault. She's very glad he can't see her right now.]

I'm sorry. I know it's not really much of a con-consolation, but if we can't leave, we should at least um...get along together? The wardens also answer any questions you have and acquiesce to request. If they consider them reasonable, that is.

[At her uncertain stammering, he softens considerably.]

No. I'm sorry. I guess you're just another unlucky one who got stuck here, eh? It's the wardens I should be mouthing off at.

[Except he's been trying not to let on to them how pissed off he is. He sighs gently.]

Define reasonable, in this context.

I understand, really! You don't need to apologize. It's not easy waking up here the first day. [It's not like she came blame him for his anger or frustration. She essentially had a break down her first day and cried for hours.] We're all just...trying to make the best of things here, I think.

And well...I guess reasonable would be anything that doesn't involve hurting another person here or leaving. And if it's a big request they may tell you that you done have enough rehabilitation points for it.

[And now he just wants to hug her]

Yeah, tell me about it.

Okay, that makes sense, I guess. Can't say I'm that interested in being 'rehabilitated', though. Feel like I've been through that once already.

The points aren't as bad as they sound. You can take a class, or volunteer somewhere or um participate when the warden's plan....things. N-Not that we usually know what they've planned before they surprise us with it.

The bigger the request the more points you need...or a really good reason for it, I think.

Oh yeah, that sounds like a whale of a time! I hope these wardens feel good about the fact that they've taken me away from my job of saving the world so I can take classes or whatever.

[Back to bitter sarcasm again, but it's definitely not aimed at her this time.]

Ah...no. Th-They don't really care if you're trying to help people back home. Their idea of crimes is very...misguided and our reasons aren't important to them. [Miranda, ever the polite person, even when it's something she doesn't agree with.]

Yeah, I'd kinda got that. Always the best kind of captor - the one who doesn't care about your reasoning.

[A little sigh] Anyway. Thank you for taking the time to tell me all this - er - did you give me your name? I'm Jack, by the way.

Well...not the best, but at least they aren't the worst either. [She can certainly think of several people who are much worse.]

And I'm Miranda. I'm sorry for not mentioning it sooner. It's nice to meet you, Jack, even under um...th-these circumstances.

[A sour chuckle.] No, definitely not the worst either.

[That would be the Master. So far.]

Hey, don't worry about it, sweetheart. Good to meet you too, Miranda, and thanks for everything!

You're more than welcome. I'm on the Welcome Committee, so helping people get settled is the least I can do.

Wow, Welcome Committee. You really are organised here, aren't you?

</small>[Which... says to him that people have given up somewhat on getting out of here. Which is worrying.]</small>

Well, it's nice to feel welcomed! See you around, Miranda.

We do try to make it easier for everyone. It's better when we work together. [She smiles back at him.] Thank you. I hope you have a good day.

Thanks, sweetheart. I guess it can't get any worse, at least!

[A sour chuckle, and he cuts the feed.]
