Day 187 [ Open ]
[ Action ]
[ Arms full, Touma is heading home from the gift shop at the museum back to the apartment he shares with Sasha in the Streamline complexes. One can encounter him on the path from Sector 5, through the middle of the dome, and then into Sector 2.

His haul for the day? Several varieties of multi-player board and card games to fill in the empty hours on days when he doesn't feel like leaving the house (which is rather often). But he looks downright approachable today. Maybe even pleasant. He won't even mind if you stop him for a chat or ask what he's up to. ]

[ Voice ]
Well, that exhibit sure beats the others so far... [ ESPECIALLY the "stimulating" first one. But we don't talk about that. ]

So... who all picked up games at the shop? Saw a few that weren't at the arcade before. [ Touma actually sounds interested about something. Stop the presses! ]

No it can be just a few people. Why?

Well... I just dunno how many people would be into that, so it might be a good idea to keep things small. [ Totally convincing excuse to avoid crowds. ]

Yeah, startin' off with a small group might be better.

Exactly what I thought. [ Crisis: averted. ] Anything else I should look out for? [ Y'know, while he's being the Nice Guy and all. ]

[She's trying to think of games that would go fast.] Maybe Monopoly?

[ Why did it have to have dice? ] I saw that one. Feels weird playing a game with fake money here but... I'll pick it up. [ No one said YOU had to play it, Touma. ]

[because it's a board game! They occasionally have dice. ] Ain't any weirder than playin' any other game with fake money anywhere else.

[ But dice mean luck, and his luck is pretty much the worst in the universe (so far as he's encountered). ] ...heh. Good point, Rogue.

[okay, fair point.] We can have a board game day somewhere like the education center after we've got all these games.

Almost sounds like the old Shelter common room sleepovers. [ A pause. ] Maybe there shouldn't be pajamas involved since people have to walk home. [ And he'd rather not see what people had for interesting choices in sleepwear because THAT couldn't end well. ]

I thought they were kinda fun. The sleepovers, but yeah, maybe not wearin' pajamas.

[ An affirmative hum. He's glad they're on the same page with that! ]

So, where do I drop off your games at?

You can drop 'em off at The Tier Apartments. I'm 325 on the third floor. If you hurry you'll get some warm chocolate chip cookies. If you don't, you'll still get chocolate chip cookies, they just ain't goin' to be warm.

[ Touma thought about that a moment. He really shouldn't be running anywhere, with his luck, but...

Fresh-made, home-made food is usually worth the risk. ]
Guess there was a point to keeping in shape after all.

Be there as quick as I can, Rogue.

Come on in! I'm workin' on a batch of cupcakes right now.

[ The door opens a moment later. ] ...hope that was unlocked because you were expecting company. [ Because really, otherwise that's just inviting trouble. Touma follows his nose and the noise into the kitchen, sniffing the air. ] Sure you don't live in a bakery?

[ That's a relief. He stops and stares at the scene in front of him. ] —I can see that. [ And, of course smell it. It's delicious, even if there's a lot assaulting him and he doesn't typically indulge in a lot of baked sweets. ] What's all this even for?

Oh. Guess so? Don't do a lot of baking. [ Or any at all, since he doesn't recall any recipes. ] Watched Sasha a few times, though.

Got it under control? [ Meaning, if she wants any help, he can certainly try. Though the trying has more to do with his luck ruining something. Maybe he shouldn't have offered... ]

You can start scoopin' some of that cookie batter onto the sheet. You just gotta take 'bout a spoon full, scoop it on and move to the next one. Leave a coupla inches between cookies.

[She won't be upset if he ruins them.]

[ Looks like he'll have to do extra work for his share. That's fine by him. ] Okay, one sec. [ First things first: set the bags under his arms down somewhere and then wash his hands. He isn't about to get anyone sick!

Then it's down to work. ]
This isn't too bad. [ How hard could it be to scoop up the batter and make it vaguely cookie-like? Worse when he doesn't quite expect how much it likes to stick to everything; the spoon, the cookie sheet, his fingers as he moves to push it from the spoon because it doesn't just flow...

This could get messy. ]

[Well he did offer. She assumed he would probably eventually have fun with it.]

Cookies are hard to mess up 'less you burn 'em in the oven.

Yeah? [ He stops and looks over his handiwork for a moment. ] They'll come okay even if they're not, uh, all that round? [ Don't ask him. It's easier to admit he doesn't know some things (without admitting he might have forgotten them entirely) when he knows the person he's with isn't from home. In a way, it's lowering his guard. ]

Sure. Cookies come in all sorts of shapes. Nobody really cares what shape they are 'long as they taste good.
