day 184 :: action / voice :: open
[In Sector 0 stands a formidable man who despite his age is in excellent health and despite the anonymity of the orange jumpsuit still exudes leadership, wit, intelligence and demands respect without his even saying a word. He isn’t in a hurry to get anywhere. Clothing is unimportant as long as he has some. Food isn’t an immediate necessity.

He stands there calmly, taking in his surroundings as he absorbs and attempts to understand all the information he has been given. Anyone passing by is free to notice him. However, having little to no trouble deciphering the technology of the headset unit, he does finally speak over the network.

His voice is calm, but not without purpose.
] I’m Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise. It seems that I’ve been taken from my ship and... imprisoned here with the rest of you. As we all seem to find ourselves in a similar situation, I hoped a number of you might find the time to answer a number of questions.

First. Under whose authority do Veridical and Conscienti imprison their inmates in MarinaNova Asylum?

Second, on what planet does the Saylar Ocean exist?

Third, and I suppose last but not least for now, what is the approximate length of time in which one remains here within the dome for this… decidedly contrived attempt at rehabilitation?

[There is a pause here, as he considers whether or not to tack on another question here. There are just so many things to ask and Jean-Luc is known for being too curious for his own good. Finally, he decides against it.] Any explanation to any of these questions would be of great help. Thank you.

Anyone can request to have a look, sure... but we haven't made any copies yet. [ And they're hand-drawn. Crudely.] Just one more thing on the long to-do list, I guess.

As for the underground facilities... I didn't spend much time down there, but it was big. Grassland, cattle, buildings... access into the facilities mainframe. Whether this dome has a similar layout or not remains to be seen, but the differences seem to be mainly superficial.

[ And you can bet your anything on that he brightens at the thought of Data joining the team. Best recruitment day ever.]

I would offer to take over making copies of the maps but I must say that even Data finds my artwork lacking. I would have Data himself make a copy of the maps you do have, crude or not. Perhaps he could even clean them up a bit as he did show a flare for artistry aboard the Enterprise.

[He's surprised to hear of the cattle and grasslands and even more buildings beneath this surface.] I suppose we should focus more on the mainframe access than on the cattle and grassland.

[Although he's suddenly been hit with another idea.] Have you ever heard of a tricorder?

That would be... really great, actually. Collecting and copying the existing data should definitely be one of our top priorities at this time.

[ Ohboy, cool it Reid. He straightens up some where he sits, gestures growing a little more animated. ] Of course — it's a handheld device for sensor scanning, data analysis, and recording data.

Data could do such both efficiently and in a timely matter, I assure you. The speeds at which he calculates and absorbs data, or even moves when necessary, is most exemplary.

[And here is where he leans in and informs Reid of a plan he's been hatching.] I believe between Data, Seven and myself we could fashion a tricorder were we able to obtain the right materials.

Really? What would you need? [ Not his greatest strength but hey, might as well put those PhD's to use.]

I'll compile a list of items. And if such items are not readily available, we might be able to devise a plan in which we... trick the AI's into giving them to us. I'm certain that given the tools, Seven could build the circuitry for one. And such a device could prove useful in telling us more about this place, namely what might be in Sector six and beyond.

[ He nods, enthusiastic.] If there's anything I can do to help... I mean, I'm not claiming to have any kind of experience with the technology involved but still, if there's anything...

[ Gosh, calm down Spencer.]
