day 184 :: action / voice :: open
[In Sector 0 stands a formidable man who despite his age is in excellent health and despite the anonymity of the orange jumpsuit still exudes leadership, wit, intelligence and demands respect without his even saying a word. He isn’t in a hurry to get anywhere. Clothing is unimportant as long as he has some. Food isn’t an immediate necessity.

He stands there calmly, taking in his surroundings as he absorbs and attempts to understand all the information he has been given. Anyone passing by is free to notice him. However, having little to no trouble deciphering the technology of the headset unit, he does finally speak over the network.

His voice is calm, but not without purpose.
] I’m Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise. It seems that I’ve been taken from my ship and... imprisoned here with the rest of you. As we all seem to find ourselves in a similar situation, I hoped a number of you might find the time to answer a number of questions.

First. Under whose authority do Veridical and Conscienti imprison their inmates in MarinaNova Asylum?

Second, on what planet does the Saylar Ocean exist?

Third, and I suppose last but not least for now, what is the approximate length of time in which one remains here within the dome for this… decidedly contrived attempt at rehabilitation?

[There is a pause here, as he considers whether or not to tack on another question here. There are just so many things to ask and Jean-Luc is known for being too curious for his own good. Finally, he decides against it.] Any explanation to any of these questions would be of great help. Thank you.

Ah... [Such terrible thing to tell though!] Well, there were once raptors in the prison. They were only released at night. They were dinosaur-like creatures. They were very aggressive. I heard that the second generation was killed by them, but I'm not sure how much of that is true.

I'm Euphemia li Britannia. Most here call me Euphie.

Euphemia... Euphie. [He nods his greeting as he's already given his name.]

Once one generation is... extinguished, do they start the next generation with a clean slate?

[She smiles and nods at her name.]

I wasn't here for the beginning of this generation, but from everything my brother said, I suppose that seems correct.

I can't say I find the idea of such a mind wipe appealing. But I suppose as basic human rights have already been ignored that it wouldn't be too far of a stretch for something such as that to happen.

[She nods] There are many instances of people not remembering things here. When I arrived I was told I had already been in Marina for some time, but I couldn't remember any of it.

Most disconcerting. Although I suppose adapting to such a thing is one of the great marvels of humanity... adaptation in any form, in fact.

Yes, I suppose that's true. Really, I think the people here have done a wonderful job of coming together and making this a home.

Home, such a subjective term. I will say that there are far worse places to be held captive than a place with both a library and a bakery.

[That gets a soft laugh out of her.] I think that's a good way to look at it.

You said you were a Captain before. In the military?

Yes, an Intergalactic military known as the United Federation of Planets. Although I've witnessed my fair share of skirmishes and battles, my vessel, The Enterprise, is primarily one of peaceful exploration.

It is? [She smiles.] I've never heard of a peaceful military before.

Indeed, the Federation is founded on such principles. However, all starships are well equipped to defend themselves should the need arise, and Starfleet is more than capable of defending Earth from those who would attempt to divide and conquer.

All of Earth is defended together and not as separate empires? [Her version of earth is split into empires.]

Yes, after first contact with an alien species Earth came together to form Starfleet and then as we expanded our exploration of space and we formed the Federation of planets. So many things seem inconsequential once another the door to the unknown is opened. Such change and progress...

[He sounds proud of this, and he is. Human progression is one of his favorite areas of study.]

That's all it took? Learning there was life elsewhere brought everyone together? [That sounds wonderful. So wonderful she looks straight through impossible like it isn't there.]
