((IJ hates me, here's another attempt to keep this post up long enough for a reply. Thanks Ally for everything! Originally this was meant to be a part of the party post... well rather her backing out before attending the large campus invite party, but due to technically difficulties I've decided to change it so that instead the mentioned party is a friend from work's big blow out))
Who: Beth // Desmond (Closed)
What: A walk home / A mugging
When: August 17, 2010; around 11p
Where: Off campus
Rating: PG - PG13 (violence I suppose)
Status: In progress
Just take a deep breath, Beth told herself as she approached the apartment building, music floating over the night air and though she would admit that this were nowhere near her scene of enjoyment Beth had promised to herself that she'd at least give it a chance and get out of her comfort zone and usual routine. Halfway up the stairs however she turned round and retreated, giving in, and going back to her dorm room on campus.
She was struggling to console her broken heart, this might explain why for once in her life Beth had requested a day off in hopes of attending a party and making the best of the night, but instead she just wanted to retreat and curl beneath her covers. There'd been an argument with Danny, she confessed how she felt as her only friend had been opted out of the idea of friendship with her and just how much more than alone she now felt. When asked why Desmond refused friendship Beth had no answer and was forced to admit the truth, she'd made the mistake of explaining to Danny just what Desmond was and she defended him as well when Danny grew jealous, accusatory, and even judgmental towards a man that he did not know personally, it was a side of Danny that Beth wished she'd never inspired let alone witnessed or brought to life in the man that she loved. He wasn't the same boy that she'd promised her heart to. Word spread however and soon her older brothers were calling her, a family intervention as they liked to call it but she knew that it was just their narrow-minded ways. One would certainly hope that the children of a preacher would be more understanding and accepting of those who were not the same as them.
She thought back to her last moment spent with the man that she loved, the moon high in the sky catching her gaze and reminding her of the moon that hung in the sky back home on their last night together. She took a step forward, remembering the feel of her bare feet against hard wood, aged and well worn, giving beneath her weight but always bouncing back. Beth sat in Danny's arms, tight and protective around her, comforting and promising for a bright future. She thought of their last conversation together, his sweet words that spoke of their past years together, the whisper of his tone, the love in his voice. Looking back on any other day would have caused her to suffer with regret for leaving him as she did but now, after learning of his contempt for someone less like himself Beth no longer hoped to take back that tear filled night when she was forced to say goodbye to the boy that held her heart in his strong hands.
How can you say that your truth is better than ours?
Shoulder to shoulder, now brother, we carry no arms
The blind man sleeps in the doorway, his home
If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy I could have won
But I gave you all
Her thoughts drifted miles away as she considered the fate of the world, the future that her children may grown in, fearing the hate that hung like moisture on the summer air, thick and clinging to every inch. More than aware that her siblings and the man who had her heart were not alone in their theories of the supernatural, their exact words were meant for her protection but all that Beth could comprehend was the darkness in the hearts and souls of the world, and the anger that lingered in their tones, masked by their concern for her safety and well being. It's fine that they are... different, but they should be different with their own kind... I just worry about you, Beth And she began to compare the civil rights movement, the days of slavery and forced labor, not just with the blacks or the Asians, but of every nationality that had ever once suffered at the hand of another. With the best of intentions in their narrow minds they would swear up and down, left and right that what they were doing was for the best of the subject at hand, they were far too ignorant to care for themselves, or they were just providing a way of living for these helpless souls. In these modern times and with modern ways man was till not ready for the movement and change that was being spoke of, in all of the world's minds everyone was ready for a passive and positively waged war, a change in the right direction. The masses swore to never be judgmental but man is defensive, always passing blame, always judging, never one to take ownership of anything unless a reward were involved. She thought of Hitler and how effortlessly the world followed his message and the cause that he presented before them, judging without indenting to. It was only much later that everyone who had rallied behind such an evil man realized just how wrong they were, the damage was already done, and there was no taking back or apologizing for what a world of followers had allowed to happen. But all that it took was one man, one thought, one inspiring voice to corrupt the world, implant the idea and that's all that it took. False accusations, pride and ego, a God complex... playing God, or using his name in wrongful situations, these all lit the world ablaze and suddenly the fire would spread. She could see it all right there, in the night air as she took another step forward. All that it would take was one man, one woman, one person in power, one idea... the world would go up in smoke and it hit her then, there would never be peace in the world. Such a complex thought and it shattered her world, nearly bringing her to her knees. We all wanted to be hopeful, positive thinking, and dream of a bright future for our children at play, but what if that was not possible. One life trying to save another, one tiny group of people wishing to spread a message of love and hope verses a world of radicals and fearful souls. We fear what we do not understand, a defense mechanism, a safe guard, but what if there is nothing to fear, nothing to guard ourselves from. We are all the same in the end, isn't that the message of God, we are all created in his image. So who's to say that God really looks anything you or I, maybe God looks in fact like a supernatural, what then? Was history repeating itself right before her very eyes and she stood helpless to make a change, so willing to do and say something, but so small and so unsure of how to make a difference that might save her world and mend the broken fences on both sides.
Choose sides
Or run for your life
Tonight the riots begin
On the back streets of America
They kill the dream of America
With her head in the clouds and thoughts miles away Beth continued down the familiar street and now within a mile of the gates of Alden Beth wrapped her arms around slender frame as a memory of walking through a field of tall grass came to mind, palms open and facing downward, the moon high in the sky just as it was on this very night, and she smiled, the simplicity in the moment, the memory still fresh in her mind but soon the happiness was ripped from her grasp as a hand hard and forceful took hold of her. The world spun out beneath her and soon she was lying with her back flat on the solid Earth that had once been under her feet, a knife now to her throat and a man yelling, grabbing at the iPod that had once been in her hand and attached to her ears, and her gaze fell upwards once more, to the moon that rested somewhere between the heavens above. Wonder clinging to recesses of her mind; was she a magnet for danger, for evil, and for ill intentioned men? Beth's mind slipped to an earlier memory, a night just like this, and a man had stalked her through the darkness and it was her friend with a guarded heart and ice blue eyes that had saved her life that night. Would she have a savior tonight? With the knife still to her throat the man used his free hand to retrieve her wallet, shoving its belongings into his pocket and kicking her bag aside before he finally glanced down at the girl who lay before him, golden curls and blue eyes, tear filled and her heart breaking again as the knife cut a thin line along her neck, no deeper than a cat scratch.
The thief had what he wanted, so why did he remain she questioned to herself, pleading in her mind for him to leave. But he was not through, not in the least, too bad this thief was set to become a rapist and murderer, his free hand dipped down between the gentle curve of her knee and her lower thigh, wishing to push back the fabric of her denim skirt, "please don't..." She begged as he looked up to scan the setting before them, not a soul in sight. Beth used this moment to her advantage as she drew her leg back and kicked him hard as she could in the stomach, she got to her feet, though it were a bit of a struggle being that a knife had been to her throat and she stumbled to run away, run towards the campus but before she could get her bearings straight the man reached for her again, pushing her against the wall, his hand now around her throat as he shouted, "stupid bitch!" while fumbling with his pants as she began to babble and plead, "no no no no... please... don't!" But his hand slid up her skirt and that was it, enough with the pleading. She fought with her mind, fought to calm it long enough to think of something to do to save herself, there was no kind hearted supernatural with pale blue eyes to save her tonight so she smacked him and his grip tightened around her throat until it began increasingly harder to breathe but she still fought for her life, getting dizzier by the minute from lack of oxygen, she stopped smacking and hitting at him, she used her fingers to scratch and dig at his bare skin, his hands and then his face until finally he cursed, dropping his hand from her inner thigh and pulling out the knife that he'd once used before against her throat, this time she supposed that he was done playing games because before she knew what was coming next he cursed at her again and shoved the knife into her abdomen as far and hard as he could. When he pulled back he watched her fall to the ground, tears straining her cheeks and her hands instantly going to her stomach but only after she pulled her skirt down, he laughed and kicked her for good measure in the head before retreating into the night and all that Beth could do was lay there on the hard ground, struggling to breath still and losing her life in the pools around her.
College wasn't supposed to be like this, she thought to herself, her insides were ripped open by the serrated blade of the knife and for some reason looking upon it had reminded her of the old Rambo movies that her brothers used to enjoy watching. It wasn't long before the kick to her head and the large loss of the blood, mixed with the searing pain and agony of her wounds caused Beth to drift into a dream like state of unconsciousness. There was no hope for her and she just prayed that her brothers and Danny would not blame her death on the supernatural world, but her prayer fell short as her eyelids fell heavy and she sank into the warmth and comfort of sleep. No longer did the pain tear through her body or her head feel as though it'd been cracked open with a baseball bat rather than a combat boot, and the feel of his hand between her legs no longer haunted her mind. She was safe, so long as she slept, gave into the welcoming feeling of death, it was far better than the agonizing strain of her battle endured. But soon enough the warm and comforting feeling of sleep gave way to cold hands of death, pressing in upon her life and stealing her soul from her body, there was nothing more that she could do but lay in the street and lose her life.
