Manchester Honors OOC

Hi everyone,

It is never easy to let a game go, but Mark and I think that it is probably time we give it up. The vision of this game and the direction we wanted it to go is just not there anymore. Neither of us really have the time or motivation to make it work. So Mark and I will be stepping down as moderators. We will no longer be taking new members or new characters.

Those of you who still have an interest in playing within the setting may do so with the characters you currently have. You may do what you like with your characters as we will no longer be determining the guidelines. You may even change your characters as long as the usernames stay the same. The website, however, will probably go down because I will discontinue paying for the hosting.

Some of you may wonder why I don't just hand the reigns over to someone else to run the game, but once upon a time I released a game I had labored over and created into someone else's hands and they destroyed it. I won't be doing that again, despite the utmost trust and confidence I have in all of you.

We both apologize if we have let any of you down. We have enjoyed playing with you and getting to know you. You may still find us loitering around AIM and at some point when we get another itch to play, we might approach you again for a new game.

I first want to apologize to everyone for my lack of activity in recent weeks. School started last month and along with that and a new position at work, I'm so busy I can hardly breathe. Sadly, the last thing on my mind these days in RP.

If you want to close any threads we might be doing together, I'll totally understand. If you're willing to hang on, I'll try to get to them soon. For the next little while and as I adjust to my new responsibilities at work, I will be very slow with my replies.

To anyone who's waiting on threads with me or has been trying to get in touch with me, I'm sorry. Since Sunday, my internet has been down, and once I finally got it back this afternoon, my computer decided to die. I'm borrowing my mother's computer to type this. Going to spend a few days there for some R&R with my sis and her family. We are all staying in a barn that was renovated into a vacation home...we might have internet access, but I don't know how much time I will have to be posting. I'm a strong gamer who has had some experience with a similar format, but am somewhat new to insane Journal.

My character is Lord Arfaron Certhgeredir and is an elf with a serious case of snark. Oh, and he's a good guy. Really. I'd say honest but already you don't believe me. WHY WON'T YOU BELIEVE ME?!?

Hey everyone! I've been around long enough that I found it was time to bring in a new character. His name is Wyatt Grayson and he is a werewolf. He has a bit of a sordid past and still has the call of flesh but he's learned to deal with it a bit. Mostly it hits him when it's a full moon. He tends to keep to himself most of the time so you really have to get to make the first step. But I'm definitely looking for lines for him though. Through me what you've got!

Hey all! Still Cailin here, just with a different face. This is Breeze, Vampire. Some of you remember her, some of you don't. Either way is good because I've tweaked her a little to fit in at the school, meaning she's a little more well-adjusted and she doesn't really carry around that big ol' who-the-eff-is-my-sire chip on her shoulder anymore. Her bio's in her journal of course and she can mostly be found at the library for all your biblio needs. Of course, if you need someone to lend an ear, or help sorting through classes, and you're in the Naur house, you can always set up an appointment.

Hey Everybody,

So this is Adrian Miller, my newest character for the school. He is a Muse for Manhattan, born and raised on Park Avenue. Adrian enjoys manipulating people, be it man, woman, human, or supernatural. His exceptionally vain about his looks and his art, and will not let anyone see less then perfection in either. If people do happen to see him when he is not at his best he usually gets angry and verbally lashes out at the closest person. Though he is completely straight he is not above flirting with men to get what he wants, but usually flirting is as far as he will go. Adrian loves a challenge as he sees it as bettering himself. He tends to go after women that do not throw themselves at him, but he will sleep with any woman that he finds interesting and worthy.

He is a Junior at Alden and is a Creative Writing major. So he may know some of the other's who were here last year, don't be afraid to IM or e-mail to plot something out!

Just a little note to let you know that Dori is bringing in her third character, Adrian Miller, a muse. Cailin is also bringing in a new character that some of you may recognize, Breeze Tavern, a vampire. Breeze will be the librarian and House Naur's counselor. Sadly, Cailin is dropping Autumn. So please update your friends list here and get to plotting with the newbies!

For those of you who even noticed my human boy, Tanner, I am switching his PB from Leif Stacy to Chace Crawford. He's only threaded with Jen's character, Keith, and now both Jen and Keith are gone, so I don't think the change should throw anyone off.

Leif just wasn't inspiring me and the icons weren't so good...so I needed the change. I think Chace fills the bill just fine.

Hi, everyone!

I just wanted to let you know that today begins the fall semester for Alden University. Not every class will begin today, but by the end of the week each class will have had its first meeting. I encourage you to make up some sort of schedule for your character. It doesn't have to be coordinated with anyone else, as there are multiple classes being taught by multiple teachers at different times and days.

Also, if you haven't seen this post about your character's class load, please read it and adjust your character's classes. Remember that each Freshman should be taking Appreciating Paranormal Diversity, either in their first or second semesters.

There will be some fun activities coming up in the next month, so we look forward to those as well as a game-wide plot.

I have updated the list of sports with the months in which their games/competitions will run. They will compete against other houses for the first couple of months and then go national to compete with other Supernatural schools the last month or two.

Just FYI, we seem to be experiencing some trouble with people being spontaneously removed from the community without Mark or I doing the removing. If you find that you cannot suddenly see the posts or post to either the OOC community or the RPG community, please let us know and we'll get you put back.

So Noah, Mark and myself were talking and we thought as a good parallel to the Party Thread would be for there to be a Staff Meeting thread as well. Where all the staff from Alden could come together before the school year starts up once again. I don't think it will be AS big as the student party thread, but it should be a fun way to get some of our professors together in one room!

This is pretty important. Ally and I have collaborated on something that we hope is going to ensure that more characters are able to interact.

On Friday, August 13th, 2010, Maya Johar djinn_yo_pants and Micah Petrov starred are throwing a big party at his apartment, and everyone is invited!

The way this is going to work is that there will be one big thread - started by either Ally or by myself depending on who gets to it first. Because everyone is going to be interacting with different people, we’re going to do something like mini-threads within the main thread. In order to accomplish this, people need to keep in mind that there are two different ways to post a comment in a thread: “Post a New Comment” or “Reply to This.”

The “Post a New Comment” is located at the very top and the very bottom of the comment portions of every thread. This is what will be clicked when you want to start a fresh mini-thread.

The “Reply to This” is located at the bottom left of every comment. This is what will be clicked when you want to reply to a mini-thread.

It’ll look something like this:

Hey, everyone! I'm the other new kid on the block, Shrew! And I bring you Carly Doe. Carly is a vampire that doesn't really know where she's going or where she's been, but she damn well knows where she is right now. Most of the time. Sometimes. Actually, not at all. She's uneducated, unrefined, and socially unacceptable. For the last twenty years, she's been working as an assassin thanks to her delightful talent for killing people. But now, one of her closest friends has managed to guilt her into bettering herself by getting an education.

Hilarity will inevitably ensue.

I am up for plot of all kinds! Carly has recently discovered technology and has a snazzy new phone and laptop, so mass e-mails to the whole campus are a definite possibility as she has yet to understand how all this business works. If she gets possession of your phone number, she will text nonstop because she loves the sounds they make. Any local bars will get to know her very well - she's a binge drinker.

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head that could facilitate plot, but if any of y'all think of something, please let me know! :) I am so excited about this game and look forward to meeting all of you!

Hey everyone, I'm Pandora/Panda/Pandie/whatever variation of that you want to use, and I'm the owner of Yanagi, an angel. She's sweet and easy-going, and would love a friend or two (or eight), but she's painfully shy. She's a member of the swim team and is an excellent archer.

Okay so I utterly fail, Beth is flatlining in my head, literally, she's almost not even there which is very sad. I think by mistake might have written her into a corner sadly and I need some help. I need some ideas that take her out of the box or comfort zone without going against all that she is completely (does that make sense?)

If I can't wake her up in my mind i'm gonna have to quit and I have a bad habit of doing that with boards that I join and I really like this board and everyone in it. I think it's cause I personally suck at socializing and maintaining a constant social life... or something.

So I need ideas to bounce around with cause the only ones that run through my mind are meant for other charcters that I have or they are super cheesy and over used. Someone help me! Please!!!

Hey boys and girls! Just wanted to pop in and give you a little update. We made our three long trip with the twenty-something foot trailer. I had two cats in my lap meowing the entire way. (Not that much fun at all) Anyway, we're at our new place and working on moving in and taking care of getting settled. I should be back to start doing some replies tomorrow afternoon.

As the game has progressed we have had several people ask us about the world surrounding Alden University and how the interactions between humans and supernaturals is affected. Here are a couple of points everyone should be aware of:

The Supernatural World vs. Humans
Humans have known of the supernatural for a very long time; practically as long as they have known about themselves. However, in centuries past, the supernatural community in general was very secretive and tried to keep themselves hidden, because of reigning persecution. It was around the 1960s, that much of the violence and persecution began to lessen, which gave the supernaturals a sense of security and caused them to expose themselves. Van Helsing, witch hunts, etc. were all very real things that happened to the people in this world.

They are citizens of their respective countries, but have very few rights in the United States- other countries have different rules and laws regarding the supernaturals. They may own houses and have jobs, they may own businesses and have families, but they may not vote, and they are discouraged (sometimes violently) from mixing with human company. A supernatural and human marriage is illegal. Supernaturals are feared for their powers and differences and treated like savage minorities. Some humans don't mind them, and may even like them, but the majority of the humans hate the supernaturals and fear them. The supernaturals are segregated from humans, they have separate churches, schools, restaurants, bathrooms, drinking fountains, etc. Humans are discouraged from using supernatural facilities, but they aren't as heavily discouraged as supernaturals are from using human facilities. Because Alden is a predominantly supernatural school, the facilities surrounding it are either primarily supernatural or allow both humans and supers to use them but have separate areas for each. Obviously, some of the more prejudiced humans would have issue with this, which causes problems the closer facilities are to the borders of Manchester.

Alden's Houses and Their Purpose
The Houses were formed to house supernaturals of like nature together, form bonds and create teams for inter-University competitions. This would ensure sound body as well as sound mind and create a healthy sense of sportsmanship and team comradery. The Houses were divided using the 4 most basically recognized elements: Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Humans were placed in the Houses based on their western birthsigns.

Arvandor- The ‘Air’ House. Celestials, Extraterrestrials and supernaturals that move through the air, Faeries, Pixies, Banshees etc, are housed here.
Kemen- The ‘Earth’ House. Forest dwellers and plains dwellers, tree spirits and giants, hobbits and dwarves, centaurs and satyrs…all those who live upon the good earth itself, or are a part of it, find their home here.
Naur- The ‘Fire’ House. All those creatures you prayed were fictional…Vampires, Dhampir, Werewolves and other Lycans, Exotic Djinn, Demons…they all lurk in House Naur.
Shae- The ‘Water’ House. The spirits and supernaturals of the sea, rivers, lakes, marshes, etc live here. Merfolk, Selkies, Sirens, Naiads, etc.

Hey everyone!

We know that the classes taken at Alden are not the most important aspect of this game. However, we would like to bring some points to your attention so that you may adjust class schedules accordingly. The fall semester at Alden will begin August 16th.

1. Your character's major probably doesn't require a slew of supernatural courses, their focus each semester should be on their major, not the supernatural courses offered. Unless, of course, your character is majoring in Supernatural Studies. Please be sure that your character is not taking more than two supernatural courses per semester.

2. Please be aware that most students take five or six classes as a maximum. More than this requires studying and homework pretty much all the time, leaving no time for extracurricular activities, especially a job. However, they should be taking more than three classes per semester, excluding the summer semester.

3. Each Freshman is required to take Appreciating Paranormal Diversity, either their first or second semester. If your character is not a Freshman, we can assume that they already took this course.

I will be making a list of the supernatural classes each student is taking along with the teachers for those courses. You may decide which teacher teaches your student's class if more than one teacher is teaching the course.

I will also be making a list of majors, so that people know which classes their characters might have in common with other people taking the same type of classes.

Yeah. I know, I know. We already have so many new characters popping into the bunch that it's going to be difficult to keep track, but I got all excited about it and decided it was time to shove this little piece of work into the mix. Ally was too tired to do a mod post to introduce her, so she said I could just go ahead and do it myself.

So, Kathryn ((mun of Dhivael stoic_dhivael and of Jia Li leaves_of_ash)) here with my third and hopefully final character. I have a feeling if I have any more characters, I won't be able to handle it.

Anyway, this is Maya Johar. She's a jinni ((singular version of djinn)), and she's a party girl for sure. She's very vain and often shallow, and she loves having the spotlight on her. Drugs, sex, and rock 'n' roll are definitely her things. She's pansexual, and she takes pride in her skills of seduction. She's even seduced people who apparently weren't into women. That takes some skill, yes?

On the outside, she's super fun-loving and magnetic, but on the inside, she's selfish and she lacks a real conscience. She doesn't feel guilt about ruining lives or breaking hearts, but she is djinn, soooo yeah. ^^_^^

As far as school goes, she's a theatre major. She mostly does backstage work ((like sewing and choosing costumes, painting sets, etc.)), but she also loves to act, and she's pretty good at it.

She's a junior, so that will have given her plenty of time to make enemies, friends with benefits, regular friends, and some regular acquaintances. Maybe the sorts of people with whom she just parties but with whom she doesn't regularly associate.

Soo... yeah... Maya Johar! ^^_^^

I am here to introduce Meda Smith, Professor of Supernatural Studies!

Meda is a obviously a kitsune, and this can easily be told by the three silver fox tails that she can not (and doesn't really want to while teaching for Alden) hide. She was born in Japan more then 200 years ago and has spent most of her long life learning about the would around her. She has been traveling the world for the last 30 or so years and wishes to settle down, at least for a while anyway.

Professor Smith is very much looking forward to teaching the lovely and diverse student body of Alden University, can cant wait to meet the other staff and students alike!

This is Daniel Petrov, who goes by the name 'Dano' to friends and family. Dano attends Alden with a family member, Drew Petrov, a cousin he wouldn't spit on if he were dying of thirst. He blames Drew for abuse when he was younger and the death of his girlfriend, Anna.

Dano loves to play the bad boy. He loves flirting, especially if it's inappropriate, cigarettes, beer, naughty inuendoes, etc. Anything to further his bad boy image. Unlike his cousin, Dano is rough on the outside and good on the inside; deep down, he pulls for the underdog and when the chips are down, protects the innocent.

Oh yeah, Dano is a werelion too!
