So I am having a craving for some vegan ice cream. I know this great place that also serves regular ice cream as well. Anybody want to come?

OK, excuse the person from another time. What's vegan?

It's fine. I don't mind informing people. A vegan is a person that doesn't eat anything that comes from an animal. So no meat, no dairy products. I eat lots of fruits and veggies, soy products and anything grown organically. At least that's how I've been eating for years.

Glad you don't mind informing. Sometimes when I ask things, people look at me funny.

So, why would you pick to not eat meat or dairy? Really just curious.

People ask me all the time. If you have questions, I've got the answers. Well, mostly.

I don't know. I guess thinking about how the meat gets to the plate by killing animals. I just think it's cruel. I know that cows aren't killed for their milk. But it has to hurt to have people pulling on their utters.

Great. Thanks.

I never knew anyone who thought like that growing up. Then again, we killed our own animals for food when we were going to have it. We didn't get it from the supermarket.

As far as milk, some cows can actually get infections from not being milked for too long. The udders can get too big and rupture. That's only cows bred to milk, though.

No problem.

I blame my dads. They always cooked healthy and everything was organic and natural. They didn't like to eat meat either. We are very disciplined in that manner. I like petting animals but when I picture myself eating a burger or steak, I picture the helpless animals.

I guess I can see it that way. I've tried actual I e cream....once here. It was alright but I'm so used to soy milk and non dairy products that I don't really like milk or dairy.

I can see the idea behind that. I'm not too sure what organic means, honestly, but I think I get the general picture.

If you've always eaten non dairy, then I can see real ice cream probably being too rich or something. To each their own.

It just means that it doesn't have all of those poisons and pesticides in the food. The food is grown naturally.

Yes, it definitely was. Once was enough for me.

Poisons and pesticides? How is food not grown if not naturally? Forgive the time traveler here.

Well, I'm from Missouri, but the year was 1899. So yeah, still catching up on a lot.

What's the difference between vegan ice cream and 'regular' again?

Vegan ice cream doesn't have any dairy in it. So it's more of a sorbet, it's very tasty.

So why is not simply called sorbet, then? That seems odd.

Well, the fruity kinds are called sorbet. Such as orange, strawberry, etc.. But there are non dairy ice cream favors. Should have been more clear so you can get chocolate or vanilla.

I see. You must be very disciplined, to be so strict about your diet.

Yes, I am. I've been a vegan for years. My dads always cooked vegan meals.
