Well, that's actually a good thing. Where I come from, a lot of people prefer the night to the day, so if the night is empty, that means there are a lot of people not there anymore. Does that make more sense?

It makes sense in the social context in which I grew up. Most people like me are more comfortable in the night, so if a night is empty, that implies that everyone who would normally be doing their business in said night is dead.
