Opening up your own business here is a lot more complicated than back home, geez. The paperwork isn't terrible, but I've had to ask one question too many! Hate to be a bother. With all the red tape, you'd think it would take longer for approvals though. A few days wait isn't so bad. See what happens...

Very strange to think about settling down here for a potentially long haul. Already been a month, wish I could say it flew by. Really hasn't though. That's okay! Can't say much of what I've seen around here randomly is all that weird. If anything, it's weird not seeing people walking around unarmed all the time.

Oh! Speaking of questions... the banker I was talking to suggested I "google" something. Hope that's spelled right. I felt dumb enough at that point, thought I'd try here. How do I google?

Isn't that when people gawk at one another? Stare intently?

As in googly eyes? Guess so, but I'm not sure how that'd help me learn more about what he was saying.

What did he tell you to google?

Said there's a lot of useful information about small business loans on it. In it? Not sure. Never heard the term before!

Oh I see now, it's something you can use on this device.

Apparently! I'm impressed with this planet's tech! You weren't familiar with the internet either, I take it?

No, we are far from that type of technology. I'm from the 18th century. That's several hundred years before now.

Wow! A time without that kind of tech... what was that like?

I'm still new, so I'm learning the differences, but things took much more time, for one. We didn't have communication devices like this.

How did you communicate long distances? Ah.. sorry for asking so many questions! Just curious. This planet's so different than mine.

It's fine. We had to send by letter and courier, it took several weeks or months depending on how far it was.

Good to know some things aren't that different. Whew! That wouldn't be such a bad way to live. Better for the planet, too.

We didn't know any better. Letters could go by sea, occasionally if it's short distances through pigeons.

The slowness makes you appreciate things more, I would think. Nothing wrong with that!

This is much faster, and I must admit, more convenient.

Tech's good at that sort of thing. Wasn't a big, big fan of it back home. People used it carelessly. Here it's not so bad.

Google is a search engine on the internet.

Do you know how to use the internet?

The internet, huh? Is that like a widespread network?

Haven't really used something like that before.

The Internet is a system of interconnected computer networks. It's accessible on your smartphone.

Neat! I was never much for tech back home. I'll check it out! So, how do I google on it?

There should be a strip near the top once you open the internet that has "http://www.something.com/org/net"

Touch there, then change it to "www.google.com"

You can, though I would suggest avoiding some things. There's a lot of mature content on parts of the internet.
