Who: SW crew and guests
What: They celebrate the Earth holiday
Where: Padmé and Anakin's rooms
When: Backdated to the morning of December 25th
Warnings: Possibly SW-based language?

She'd gotten up early to head down to the kitchen in order to meet Mara. Together the pair had made a wonderful breakfast that was now spread out across a table in the Skywalker's living space. Pancakes with various fruits, both from Earth and ones most of the people attending would recognize, bacon, sausage and ham, juice, coffee, milk - it was all laid out for people to pick at. In one corner of the room was a tree where presents were already gathered beneath and a fire burned in the fireplace to warm up the room.

The door to the hall is open for people to meander in and out as they like while the triplets are sharing a playpen, awake and watching the events happening.

Obi-Wan | Anakin
[info]darkforcerising

Anakin didn't have any intentions about stiff drinks, or letting his former Master reach his goal. Instead he had one contented infant in his arms and another that had just burst into tears in her bassinet, as infants were wont to do.

"Here," he said to grab Obi-Wan's attention as he was passing, and then without further warning, he presented Luke and a rattle for Obi-Wan to take while Anakin saw to Romi's needs.

Once Romi was in Anakin's arms the baby stopped her wailing for just as mysterious reasons as she started.

Anakin turned and smiled at Obi-Wan. "Merry Christmas."

Obi-Wan looked at the child, a little startled, before looking at Anakin.

"Is that the traditional greeting?" he asked distractedly as the infant reached for his beard. Luke. He recognized the bright little presence in the Force.

"Gifting of infants?" Anakin asked brightly, knowing full well what Obi-Wan meant. But Anakin was in a good mood. He was just happy Obi-Wan had shown up.

"No, generally people do not give away their babies. But we do say Merry Christmas to one another."

Obi-Wan gave him a look, unamused, but not angry.

"Were you two waiting here to ambush me?" he asked dryly.

Anakin gave Obi-Wan a look in return, one that said he wasn't buying his former Master's display of grumpiness.

"You just attributed evil intent to a not even three month old baby." He shook his head, but he was hardly put out. More amused than anything else.

"I am glad you came." And this he said with the utmost sincerity.

"An ambush isn't an inherently evil act."

He shifted the baby from one arm to the other.

"Thank you," he added softly.

"Master, ambush has negative connotations," Anakin said knowingly.

He skipped over asking if Obi-Wan was enjoying himself. Anakin knew the answer already. Maybe his former Master had transcended his horror at learning everyone knew about him and Siri. But Anakin doubted it.

"Have you used your gift from Santa yet?" And then Anakin realized he'd failed to explain who 'Santa' was to Obi-Wan, and maybe Obi-Wan had missed the small gift. "Did Ani explain Santa to you?"

"He explained the concept." And it was a bit ridiculous. That was clear from his tone. "And I have not used it. I'm not sure I intend to. I thought you might like to have it, actually."

Anakin just gave Obi-Wan another look for that tone. The man was apparently real. Maybe. This was Anakin's second Christmas and he'd still not seen the man. But this was his second Santa gift.

"Me?" He looked genuinely taken aback and confused. "Why wouldn't you want to use it. You could see Master Qui-Gon again."

"We had time to say good-bye. I don't know what else you think there is to say."

He reached into a pocket and took the object out, holding it out to Anakin.

"I'm serious. You can have it."

Anakin wasn't ready to concede yet.

"But you cared about him, too." There had to have been a friendship between them, hadn't there? Anakin didn't know much about the relationship between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. He just always assumed they were close, like he and Obi-Wan were. Qui-Gon was, after all, a bit of a maverick. Surely he bent some of the rules about attachments, for at least friendship.

"This isn't about gaining closer but seeing people we miss."

"To what end? I don't see how opening old wounds can be considered a gift."

His gaze dropped to the object.

"Anakin, it was over whether he lived or died. He was done with me. There's nothing to say."

He pressed it into Anakin's hand.

"And I'm sorry I took that out on you at the time. Take this. I'm sure you or Padme have someone who will appreciate seeing you as much as you wish to see them."

“Master…” Anakin started to say, but then stopped. What could he say? He knew the pain of rejection and exclusion Obi-Wan was hinting at. Anakin had not experienced that at Qui-Gon’s hands, but at the rest of the Order. Unwanted with no recourse, Jedi weren’t supposed to care about this indifference, so there was no drive on the part of the unreceptive to correct their behavior. A failing of the Jedi, in Anakin’s opinion, and both he and Obi-Wan were living proof of why.

He couldn’t fix this gulf between his friend and a dead man Obi-Wan clearly admired but felt so disused by.

Anakin’s fingers closed around the package, if for no other reason than to relieve Obi-Wan from what the older Jedi considered not a gift but a painful injury.

“Thank you,” he finished simply and offered Obi-Wan a bow in return. It was only slightly awkward with the baby in his arms.

Obi-Wan almost managed to muster a smile at that.

"You're welcome, my friend." He nodded towards the tree with slightly more success at a happier facial expression. "I did get you a proper gift as well."

Anakin did not care about the gifts, he was more interested in the happiness of his former Master. Without pausing to think it through, Anakin leaned over and pulled Obi-Wan into a one-armed hug. The baby logistics worked as they were held so they were opposite each other.

"Thank you, Master," he said again before he released Obi-Wan and stepped back.

"Oh." Slightly startled by the hug, he managed a brief pat to the back of Anakin's shoulder. "Um, yes. You're welcome." He glanced over to where Siri lingered along one wall. "I'm going to see if she...wants something to drink."
