Who: Ani and Obi-Wan
What: Obi-Wan has some things to discuss with Ani
When: Thursday afternoon
Where: There rooms
Rating/Warnings: Probably low – one embarrassed Jedi.
Status: In progress/closed

Ani shut his chemistry textbook with dramatic fashion. He didn’t hate chemistry in the slightest, in fact he usually loved equations, in all their forms – so neat and ordered with definite solutions he could puzzle out, why couldn’t the world be more like that? But he was still a boy of thirteen and there came a point when even his brain needed different stimuli.

Thankfully, that was his last bit of homework.

“I’m done with my homework, Master. Can I go find Helena?”

"I'm trying to tell you." He took a steadying breath. "I told you that, in our youth, Master Tachi and I discovered that we harboured...an emotional attachment to each other. However, Master Qui-Gon noticed the signs of this attachment, and warned us of the danger. ...He informed Master Yoda of the risk as well. At that time we decided to set those feelings aside and continue our training."

Ani thought it was a little suspicious how easily distracted Obi-Wan was from making this very important point. His Master often kept him on task, not the other way around. He decided to not passively wait for Obi-Wan to just spit it out this time.

“But... you still have feelings for her now?”

It took him a moment to answer, like speaking his reply was akin to lifting a very heavy weight.

"Yes." A pause. "That's what I'm trying to tell you. We had a previous agreement to set aside our feelings of attachment for each other, but a short time ago we talked about it and decided to...disregard it."

Ani truly did not find this shocking, which was probably apparent in the Force. He was already well acclimated to accepting attachments – he much preferred to have them, which was a surprise to no one. To him, forming attachments was like breathing.

“I figured,” he said. “You sneak off with her a lot – I can tell because when I look for you in the Force when you’re not here, her Force-signature is near yours.” And you’re always buzzing at those times, but Ani only thought this, he didn’t say it out loud.

He decided to go out on a limb and take a stab at why Obi-Wan brought up Ani still having the choice to train or not.

“I don’t mind. I still want to learn from you.”

Obi-Wan wanted to protest that he didn't sneak, but it probably would be mendacious of him. Instead he stood up.

"I would have told you sooner, but we didn't know if this...this experiment would lead anywhere. But things seem to be working out, so I thought you should know."

“Okay.” Ani accepted the news as nothing untoward; this didn’t cause any negative reaction in him. But, looking back over everything his Master had said, it was clear Ani’s negative reaction was expected.

“Master? Why were you worried about telling me?”

"Because I've broken the Code, Anakin. I've changed. You set your terms when we started this with one perception of who you agreed to do it with and I've changed. You'd be within your rights to decide that this isn't what you signed up for." A hestitant pause. "And I don't want you to go," he finished softly.

“Oh,” Ani said.

Then he hopped down from the bed and went to Obi-Wan, throwing his arms around his Master. The combination of Obi-Wan’s worry of losing Ani and that ridiculous ideas about emotions fundamentally changing a person so much that Ani would no longer want anything to do with him had moved Ani’s compassion.

Hugging had, in Obi-Wan's life, been a very casual thing. A greeting for an old friend. Brief and more ritual than emotional expression. This one was fraught with emotion and apart from startling him with its suddenness, it brought a lump to his throat with its innocent and genuine assertion of attachment. He didn't know what to do, apart from pat Anakin awkwardly on the back, and he didn't know what to say in response.
