Who: Anakin and Harry
What: Two Chosen Ones walk into a stable… Harry is showing Anakin a spell or two
When: Sunday mid-day
Where: The stables
Rating/Warnings: Probably low
Status: In Progress/Closed

Anakin waited in the stall of the stable for Harry to show up. He knew the young man was James’ son, and therefore could do magic, he assumed, like James. Which was promising. Anakin’s younger self was far too adept at electronics or mechanical parts for the adult to rely on them for security purposes. At least for long. Initially each new invention would work. But given enough time the young boy would find a way to work through the mechanical or electronic barriers. Anakin needed something the boy couldn’t touch or affect with the Force.

In an effort to keep the boy from trying again with the bike so soon after the Great Escape last Friday Anakin had taken out some key parts to the bike and they were strewn about the work table in the stall. To get the bike running again one would have to reassemble the pieces and that would take time. The time it would take Anakin to discover the boy red handed, as it were.

But despite the need to keep his younger self from trouble, Anakin was skeptical. Harry hadn’t been very clear over the network, and some of the things the young man said left Anakin uneasy. Compulsion was something Obi-Wan used more frequently than Anakin. Maybe it was the subtlety involved, Anakin did always approached any problem with about as much grace and force as a battering ram, but he preferred to use such techniques, like the Jedi mind trick, as sparingly as possible.

Still, he would hear the young man out. Maybe something would work?

Harry wasn't exactly sure what he was getting himself into. He had always been warned that tampering with muggle devices, making them magical in anyway, was not to be done. But... this wasn't a place he had ever heard of before in his life, and Harry wasn't sure that magical rules and laws applied here.

Either way, Harry had promised that he would attempt to help the man using magic, and Harry wasn't one to go back on his word. So he found himself heading toward the stables, to meet a man who had been rather vague about what he wanted to be not accessible to certain people. Children in particular. Harry knew that the man didn't want the child to be harmed in any way, and that he didn't want the child to be compelled not to access it against his own free will. Harry had some ideas of what he could do to this device.

He found the stable in question rather easily, it was one of the few stables that happened to be occupied. His gaze traveled over the form of the swoop bike for a moment, before he focused on the young man also occupying the stable.

"Hi... I assume this is what you want to become inaccessible to a particular child?"

The swoop bike in question was a Mobquet Zephyr-G, designed for speed but incidentally could be used for utility as well. An ideal combination for the citizens of Tatooine who tended to view laws as guidelines that could be flouted for self-interest when necessary. Anakin’s early childhood memories were populated with the sight and sound of Zephyrs cutting through the traffic of Mos Espa’s dirt streets. He’d even salvaged parts for this model of bike back in Watto’s shop.

With it resting on detached repulsorlift platforms, suspending the bike above the ground in simulation of what the bike’s own, internal repulsorlifts (which were currently in pieces on the work table) could do, it looked little like Earth technology. Anakin was proud of it to the extent a Jedi could allow themselves to be proud of their work.

“Yes,” Anakin paused in his work over the parts – while he had the pieces out he might as well be tweaking what could be or needed to be tweaked. “I need to prevent my younger self from accessing it. I don’t mind if he uses the bike with supervision, but he has yet to learn what ‘proper supervision’ means. As it stands, he would categorize himself as perfectly capable of overseeing his use of the vehicle. That is a mistake I do not wish him to make again.”

Harry looked over the swoop bike as he listened to Anakin speak. He had never seen anything like it before, at least, never in person. That wasn't to say that Harry wouldn't be able to put basic spells on it to prevent it's unauthorized use. He glanced up at the Jedi when it was stated that he didn't desire the child to never be able to use the bike, just that he wanted the child to not use the bike without permission. That made things slightly more difficult, as he would need to apply spells to it that could have a non-magical person override it for when it was appropriate. Though Harry was certain that he would be able to do it.

He remained silent as he considered his options. Anakin had stated that it was for his younger self, so Harry figured that any sort of magic that would recognize Anakin as the proper owner of the bike could quite possibly recognize a younger version of Anakin as the proper owner. He tilted his head slightly, then looked up at the Jedi in front of him.

"An age line," he stated. It was simple enough. "I cannot do anything that would make the bike recognize you as the proper owner, and to only work for you... the spell may not be able to differentiate between you and a younger you. But an age line would not be able to tell any similarity between you and a younger you, it would only be able to tell the age of the person attempting to cross it. I would have to make the age restriction older than the child, yet younger than you. It would not harm anyone younger than the specified aged, it would merely prevent them from getting past the line and to the bike..."

Anakin listened to the explanation intently, but he had questions himself – beyond the obvious ‘how in the universe does magic even work’. He was used to powerful abilities, he was a Jedi after all, but as he understood it, the Force was quite different than the magic of James’ world. Which was, incidentally, why he took Harry up on the offer to show him some ideas of bike-theft by child prevention. But the ‘how’ of magic was a philosophical discussion for a different time. Anakin’s question revolved around something else entirely.

“How does it determine age, this age-line?” he started, crossing his arms. “As I am to understand it a standard year in my universe is longer than a standard year in yours. Standard weeks and months are measured differently.” This was important in that not letting the boy have any loopholes to slip through was key to any measures of prevention Anakin undertook.

Harry considered Anakin's questions, he hadn't considered that the child in question's age may be measured differently than in Harry's world. "Well. I suspect... the age line will determine the child's age as it is measured in this universe, in this... Land of Make Believe." He remained silent for a moment, considering his options.

"The age line cannot be tricked, either. Even if you are able to make yourself appear older than your actual age, the age line will be able to determine your actual age."

Anakin was fairly certain that didn’t make sense. Days were measured the same in his universe as they were here. Weeks were, in his universe, only five days long. Months were seven weeks. And years were almost a whole month – in this world’s time reckoning – longer than this place. In short, Anakin’s age could be converted using days. If he were to say, 23.8 years old in his universe’ time, he would be two year’s time worth older than someone claiming they were 23.8 years old in this world, Imagination’s time.

But Anakin saw a simple solution, he would merely convert his younger self’s age in this world’s time himself to avoid confusion. That way whatever Harry needed to do could be completed quickly without much pause. Anakin nodded and moved onto the next question.

“Is there a way to block the bike from view to those from outside this age line?” Anakin asked. “If my younger self can see the bike he’d still be able to use the Force to pull it over to him.”

Anakin appeared to approve of Harry's suggestion of an age line, and Harry was grateful for that. Even though the child's age was different in this universe than it was in the universe the child came from, that didn't appear to pose much of a problem. Harry merely needed to make the age restriction a few years older than the child's age. That he could do.

"I could make the age line, and then apply some protective spells as well, so no one could view the bike if they are outside of the age line. I could even attempt a few spells that would make it impossible for the bike to be removed from the age line unless it is physically moved."

He moved around the bike, studying it for a moment. "And if you want verification that the age line is in tact, I can make the age restriction higher than my age, so I can show you how it works?"

Anakin nodded to the next suggestion, but then shook his head when Harry offered to make the bike immovable without physically doing so. “I might need to move it and I don’t want that option barred from me. The inability to see it from outside the age-line should be sufficient for now. The boy is twelve and not always as astute as he ought to be.” And the same could be said for the older version. Anakin had, after all, failed to realize his younger self would build his own ignition switch.

Anakin then stepped back to let Harry have room to work. He waved a hand to prompt the young man to action. “Go head.”

At Anakin's prompting, Harry decided to work on the cloaking charms first, before applying the age line. It would work for the best, so Harry could work on concealing the bike from wherever he chose. He had learned a thing or two of protective and cloaking charms during his seventh year, when he was searching for the horcruxes. He had to take measures to ensure he would not be found. So he removed his wand from his pocket, and proceeded to get to work.

Once he decided that the cloaking charms he had put in place were sufficient, he glanced toward Anakin. He then took a step through the boundary of the charms, which then masked his presence as well. Part of the reason he did this was to make sure that the bike would still be visibile, once inside the boundary. Another was to show Anakin that the boundary could be crossed, if one was able to get passed the age line. Once satisfied, he moved out of the boundary of the charms once more.

Next was the placement of the age line. He decided that it should be placed just outside of the boundary of the other charms, so there wouldn't be any way the twelve-year-old boy could accidentally go through the boundary of the charms.

Once everything was in place, Harry looked toward Anakin once more.

Anakin patiently waited while Harry set the charms in place. He was accustomed to seeing magic performed, he was friends with James after all. Though usually James was taking out his wand to send glitter raining down on Anakin’s head. Anakin was grateful the man’s son wasn’t following in his father’s footsteps in that regard.

The bike disappeared first, and then so did Harry when he walked within the line.

When the young man reappeared, it seemed he was not done casting spells, and Anakin waited before saying anything. There was one small issue he noticed right away.

Harry looked towards Anakin, seeming to expect comment, which Anakin was quick to launch into with business-like candor. “I need to be able to see the bike from anywhere within this stall,” he gestured to the space near and behind him. “I work in here and utilize the whole space. Not being able to see the bike from any part of this space will be a hindrance. Besides, I don’t want my younger self to have access to this stall at all. Can the age line be placed at the entrance,” he pointed towards the stall opening, “and the concealing charm extended to include the whole stall?”

Anakin made a valid point when he said he would need to see the bike from anywhere within the stall. Harry nodded in response to his question, "Of course. I'll just extend the charms to cover the entirety of the stall." Why Harry hadn't thought of that in the first place, he wasn't exactly sure. But after a few minutes, Harry had the charms extended to the entirety of the stall. He then replaced the age line, making the line correspond with the walls of the stalls.

"The age line is along the walls of the stall as well, in case your younger self manages to find a way within the stall from a different location other than the entrance. And he won't be able to see the bike from outside of the stall. Unless he gets someone to reverse the magic, he won't be able to get in the stall at all."
