Entry tags:andromeda tonks, kurt wagner

Who: Andromeda and Kurt
What: Andromeda needs to get away and take stroll around the grounds.
When: After this.
Where: Courtyard, then grounds.
Rating/Warnings:TBD. Probably lowish.
Status: In progress/Closed

She knew she shouldn't be upset. Her and Bella hadn't been on speaking terms since Hogwarts, perhaps a year or so after. These days Bella was obviously completely insane and hardly a good judge of character. But that didn't change the fact that she was Andromeda's big sister, and they'd been close once. Years and years ago, but there had been a time when Andromeda would have done anything to remain in her and the family's good books. And it hurt to be called those things, to have her husband and family called those things by a woman who she'd once been close to.

Andromeda wasn't about to say these things to Teddy and Nymphadora. She loved them both, didn't regret her decision to start her own family for a moment. But that didn't mean there wasn't a part of her that wished that somehow, she might have had the opportunity for both worlds. She knew they hated Bella (They should do. Andromeda should hate her as well.), and knew that dragging them into the dynamic between herself and the other Black sister would only put them in danger. But she needed to speak with someone, even if it wasn't a talk about all this. Someone who wasn't connected to her sister or her. Someone new.

Which was why she was waiting for Kurt against one wall of the courtyard, dressed in jeans and a red cardigian, her arms wound protectively around her waist.

He couldn't help it but to be excited to see Andromeda, even if she seemed vaguely put off by something. She had been one of the first persons he met originally and she was always kind to him, someone he felt he could talk to honestly about things. So when he appeared in a cloud of smoke tainted by a scent of sulfur it was with his pearly white teeth gleaming in a toothy grin. It faded though as he neared her from where he teleported several feet away.

"Andromeda! And- oh, but what is wrong, liebling??" he furrowed his indigo eyebrows and he paused before her with his tail swinging restlessly behind him.

She jumped when he appeared from nowhere. She'd forgotten about his smokey version of apparition until that moment. Andromeda gave him a mildly reproachful look for startling her, but it was gone quickly in place of a pleased smile. His question did make tears prick at the back of her eyes, but Andromeda's strict childhood had embedded a strict sense of decorum in her, and it wasn't exactly polite to burst into tears in public. It made people uncomfortable. Anyway, she was distracted for a moment by just how pleased she was to see Kurt back.

"Kurt." She smiled and stepped forward to give him a hug, wrapping her arms around the colourful figure tightly for a moment. "I'm glad you're back," she told him, pulling away and squeezing his hand gently in hers before dropping it. "We've missed you. Settling back into it all okay?"

She supposed they'd get round to what was wrong with her eventually, but right now she was happy to dodge that question.

His tail curled around her narrow waist for the moment of contact, a sort of natural instinct when people held themselves to him. Usually when he was holding someone it was to teleport them away.

"Ja, I am," he dipped his chin slightly, her scent flooding his nose when he took a breath. As much as she tried to dodge the question it was still obvious to him something was wrong. Kurt tilted his head when they broke apart and he raised a three fingered hand to gently touch her cheek.

"Something is bothering you," he murmured.

Andy flushed as he touched her cheek, dropping her gaze down. "I..." she took a breath and looked back up into Kurt's kind expression. She really was fond of him, and was pleased to see him. Even if there was a part of her that felt bad that he'd been dragged from his home again.

"My sister's arrived," she told him. "Bellatrix. She's..." How did one describe Bella? "Completely insane, quite honestly. Mass-murder, torture, dark magic... But she's my sister and I just... I should hate her. I do, sometimes, but..." Andromeda trailed off hopelessly, shaking her head with a exasperated smile as she listened to her own confused rumblings. "I'm being stupid. She's just... Rather unpleasant about me and my family, and I suppose I shouldn't let it get to me, but it's hard sometimes. I'll be fine."

And she refused to cry about it.

He understood perfectly well what troubled her. When his brother Stefan had changed Kurt had to follow through with a promise he made to his brother to make sure Stefan did not harm anyone because of the darkness within him. It caused a rift between Kurt and his adopted family, one that only seemed to get more complicated as the years rolled on.

"Leibling, it is not stupid," he trailed his three fingers down from her bicep to her hand and he held her hand gently as he began to lead her away from where she stood. They needed to walk, it was what she had wanted.

"Would you believe me if I told you I had a brother that was the exact same way? Insane, into dark sorcery, and I loved him dearly but he had to be stopped and sometimes it is only those closest to them can stop those who go mad."

Andromeda sighed and let him take her hand to start leading her towards the gate to the main grounds. She did need to walk, if just to start clearing her head before she headed back to her daughter and the boys. After Hogwarts and before she had left with Ted, Andromeda had spent hour after hour wandering the gardens of their house or the muggle streets of London, trying to sort her thoughts out. It was something of a habit.

She glanced gratefully across at Kurt, then immediately felt incredibly guilty about her own rush of relief. She shouldn't be glad that he could relate, because it was a horrible feeling she wouldn't wish on anyone. And yet there it was, in a selfish part of her she couldn't quite push down.

"What did you do?" she asked quietly as they stepped together onto the lawn surrounding the castle.

At such a question Kurt found himself unable to answer right away. He was quiet, glowing gaze set firmly on something in the distance as they walked and then his grip on her hand tightened for just a moment.

"...I killed him."

It sounded awful to admit and it made the pit of Kurt's stomach drop. He felt a rush of nausea so he stopped them in their tracks and he turned to her. It was clear to admit such a thing upset him.

"I did not mean to, but he had told me if that happened I had to do what I could to control him.. and we fought when it happened, when he went mad, and... and I couldn't... his neck snapped and I..."

Andromeda found herself turned to face him as he stopped, her hand still caught with his. A swell of shock slipped over at his words, flooding her body until her hands were cold and her body felt numb. Perhaps it was because she related to what he had said previously, and Bella's proud, beautfiul face flashed up in her minds eye. Then she caught sight of Kurt's expression and her sister was forgotten completely as her heart went out to him.

"Oh, Kurt." She stepped forward without prompting and wrapped her arms around him. Like all Black family members, Andromeda was quite tall, so she was able to rest her chinon his shoulder, one hand curling against the nape of his neck. She knew it was a terrible thing for him to admit, but she could understand being in that situation. It made her feel a bit sick even to think about it, but she could relate. "I'm so sorry," she told him quietly, hugging him tighter. "I shouldn't have asked."

This was something he had never really told anyone besides the Professor. To speak out loud what had happened only served to bring the memories rushing back in full force and just as she pressed herself against him in that warm embrace he felt the velveteen fur on his cheeks growing damp. Kurt blinked heavily and found his tail curling around her waist again.

"It is okay," he managed, voice raw as he tried to quell any further crying.

"It was an accident, but I was the only one able to fight him, my own brother. You see, it is unfortunate but as family we must take on such a role at times, for no one else could."

Andy sighed, her arms still wrapped tight around the indigo figure for a long moment before she pulled back a little to look at him. It was strange to remember how Kurts appearance had startled her when they'd first met. She found it quite pleasing now.

She reached up to cup his face gently, a mirror of his gesture in the courtyard. Andromeda brushed her thumbs across the soft fur of his cheeks to dislodge any clinging drops of moisture. She wished there was something she could say. "I think you're very brave," she finally told him softly. Braver than she could ever imagine herself being, at any rate.
