She noticed the slight hesitation before he put his hand on top of hers and it warmed her. He would have completely frozen not all that long ago.

Her answering smile was fond, and more than a little playful. Blue eyes sparkling (and if there was more warmth there than usual it was all Obi-Wan’s fault), she stepped into him, closing the remaining distance between them. “It seems we are.”

The arm she'd been touching slipped back around her waist, the other hand lifting to touch her shoulder then up to brush lightly along her jaw. His eyes followed the movement of his fingers with a small amount of wonder. How had he ended up here, doing this with her, after all this time? How was he suddenly allowed to touch her with no ill consequences? It still jarred against everything he'd been trained to know, but he found it increasingly easy to dismiss that feeling and hold on to how the touch, itself, made him feel instead.

Her breath caught in her throat at the brush of his fingers along her jaw, the touch leaving sparks in its wake. Oh... She leaned into his touch, just a bit, unable to help herself. This was real. Twenty years she’d wanted this. Wanted him. And now they were here. On a rooftop in each other’s arms. She pressed forward, hands coming up to frame his jaw, and she kissed him.

One day. They've been granted the reprieve of one day without having to worry about what comes next or awkward questions or difficult explanations. He knows he'll have to keep his word to Anakin to talk to Ani about it, but that concern melts from his mind as her lips meet his again.

This. It's everything right now. He was a little horrified that it blocked out his ability to sense even Anakin, but now, in the moment, he's happy to lose his senses to it. To her. To sacrifice them for this.

One day.

It made sense to her, then, that they should make the most of it. Or maybe she just wanted them to. She didn’t think that was a wrong reaction to this. To the feel of him against her, and in the Force, the roughness of his beard against her skin. The warmth of him in front of her.

She broke the kiss and pulled away just the slightest bit, looking at him, not for the first time since this all began, with something like wonder. Her fingertips traced the lines of his face, brushing from his brow, down his cheek and gently across his lips, then along the line of his jaw.

He tilted his head a little, leaning his face into her touch. It was like that first time, so long ago, except this time he understood what was happening. What it meant. This time he got to decide what he wanted.

It was a sort of selfishness that he'd never experienced, just... choosing something because he wanted to. It still felt forbidden, he was just becoming more comfortable living with that. He was starting to understand that not everything they denied themselves led, inevitably, to the Fall.

"I talked to Mara," he murmured. "About their new Code."

She never wanted him to stop doing that. It was such a simple gesture, one that she was sure all non-Jedi took for granted... but she didn’t. She wasn’t sure she could. Because it was him. Because they were the way they were. After her mission to take down Krayn she’d been... eccentric, among the Jedi, for her tendency towards physical contact. Obi-Wan had borne the brunt of it, of course. But it had never been... this. Their intertwined fingers still took her by surprise sometimes.

“What do you think?” She was curious how he’d taken Mara’s explanation. What his thoughts were on the differences.

That he was touching her so... easily made her breath catch in her throat as much as his fingertips trailing up the inside of her wrist did. It was the locked door, she suspected, making him so at ease, but his actions still affected her. She pressed closer, attention only half on their conversation. The rest was on him; the colour of his eyes, his hair moving gently in the slight breeze. The feel of his fingertips on her arm, against her skin. His presence in the Force.

Just... him.

Her smile was one of her rarer ones, gentle and so very fond.
