Summary: 4th Choosing Ceremony

Lee looked around the room and cleared his throat, raising his glass of bubbly. "We're down to two weeks left here in Paradise, with just two more romantics to join us. Tonight, one wizard will be leaving us, and tomorrow, another young witch will join us with the hopes of finding true love. Next week, we'll be joined by one last wizard before in another week, our last choosing ceremony will take place and - hopefully - you'll be heading back to England arm in arm with the love of you life, whoever that may be." He looked around more pointedly, at some of the couples standing together in the crowd.

"If I can ask the men to join me over here, and women, you'll be there with the roses, and we'll begin."

Millicent took a long moment for contemplation. She'd yet to make much of a promising connection, aside from feeling a much better friendship with Blaise. Part of her, the vindictive part, wanted to choose Cormac after the fiasco of the last week's choosing. It was purely spiteful, however, and it wouldn't do her reputation any good. And Blaise likely wouldn't want her choosing him, after all the bruhaha, either. After a moment she finally smiled at the newest man, Cinead, who she'd talked to a little bit over the course of the week, and she offered him the rose. "Cinead, I've had fun talking to you this week," she said. "Maybe we'll have a chance to talk more."

Cináed had watched some of the previous choosing ceremonies before he had joined the cast in front of the cameras, but now that he was actually a part of it, he realised that simply watching it hadn’t prepared him for it even the least bit. Why, he couldn’t explain, because he wasn’t exactly nervous, yet he had no idea whether he would get chosen or not. Sure, he’d talked to a couple of the witches, not quite as many of the blokes who all seemed fine enough with minding their own businesses and the witches of their own choosings. But there had been a few.

One of the witches he’d talked to more than the others, Millicent, was first. Cináed had gotten the impression that she didn’t really feel comfortable here, and that her friendship with Blaise was why she was here. But she was nice, reminded him of some of the girls back home, but not in the familiar kind of way. Even now she looked uncomfortable, like she didn’t really know what to do, but at once, it was like a light came on, and there was her smile, directed at him.

Coming up to her, he gave her a hug and kissed her cheek gently before he looked down at her with a gentle smile. “It’d be my pleasure,” he assured her and winked at her.

She had to admit, it wasn't completely cerebral, though she really had enjoyed talking with him. He was awfully pretty, after all, though she didn't think she'd ever have that thought pried out from between her lips. And he'd been nice to her, which was always a plus. Not that anyone here had been explicitly rude so far...

Millicent hugged him back and gave him another bright smile. He was charming, she'd also give him that, though it was in a slightly different way than she was used to from the Slytherin and pureblood world. Less contrived, perhaps. She still didn't have him pegged exactly, but Hufflepuff was definitely a factor in his make up. "I look forward to it," she told him.

Lavender + Cormac

This was undoubtedly the most relaxed that Lavender had been coming into the Choosing Ceremony. The last few days had left her feeling like she was walking on air, especially after her date in France with Cormac. The food had been lovely, the music good to dance to, and he looked amazing in a sharp suit, but what she was going to remember was the growing intimacy between them, and not just in the physical sense.

She picked up her rose, grinning at the knowing look that Lee gave her. "There's not much to say, is there?" Her expression softened. "Cormac," she said, holding the rose out, the short stem pinched between finger and thumb, "I think you know how special you've become to me. So this is for you."

Angelica watched Lavender and Cormac with a wistful sigh. She had no idea what she should do here. She and Stephen had hit it off, but they both seemed to have the same beliefs about dating within 'the industry' and the last thing she wanted was a famous boyfriend overshadowing her talents. Perhaps it was callous, but she was a businesswoman as well as an artist, and she had to protect herself. She looked around the room, the men were all truly handsome and interesting, and finally her gaze stopped on one of them. He was quiet, not unlike her, but he also had a certain attitude, which she'd noticed in the last Choosing. And so she stepped forward, gave Stephen a small, apologetic smile, and then looked to Blaise.

"Blaise, I would really like the chance to get to know you better, would you accept my rose?" For a moment, she held her breath, afraid he'd say no.

Blaise's week had been anything but pleasant. Outwardly he'd enjoyed conversations and had fully participated in all the opportunities but on the inside he felt as if this was the last place on Earth that he actually belonged. He was certain that whatever editing they were doing was likely painting him in a light that showed how incompatible with anyone he actually was. In fact he'd come to believe himself that he was much better suited for the one night scenarios at home than any sort of true love connection which meant that the smart choice for all these ladies would be to send him off site so they could look for someone that was indeed a suitable long term companion.

When Angelica said his name, Blaise couldn't help but do a double take. Sure they'd spoken on a few occasions and had enjoyed some laughs at mutual events but they hadn't gone off alone or even displayed any sort of physical connection. Stepping forward, Blaise gave a small, polite bow. "Thank you, I graciously accept."

Cho smiled brightly when her name was called. She'd been nearly bouncing in her place ever since they'd been separated and she'd had to pause her conversation with Finbar. If asked, she'd swear the man had her under some sort of compulsion, because she just couldn't get enough of looking at him, listening to him, laughing with him... And when he'd kissed her earlier in the week... Her knees had gone soft! She'd actually gone week in the knees!

And so she barely let Lee finish announcing her before she had her rose out and was in front of him, "Finbar?" Her voice was strong and stable and for the first time since she arrived, she truly didn't have any fear.

Cho and Finbar

Watching Cho was like watching a wind-up toy wound too tightly and bound by an Impedimenta that was about to break. She was a ball of contained energy, and Finbar almost feared that if anybody bumped into her too hard, she’d burst and start bouncing around the room. Several times while they waited for any names to get called, he caught her eyes, smiling at her and felt that incredible sense of being drawn to her again.

The minute he heard Cho’s name, he saw her already the better part of the way to the roses, and even before she had taken one, she burst out his name. It was more of a question than a statement, and the look of relief on her face at finally being released had him burst out in a light laugh. He didn’t say anything, simply covered the distance between them in a couple of long strides. Still chuckling he cupped her cheeks, tilting her face up so he could kiss her. “Yes, Cho?” he asked, still trying to keep from outright laughing again.

It was as if the calm of Bodh Gaya had settled into her and spread to her surroundings here in the villas. Alicia was still annoyed at the way she had been lured to be part of the show, but she no longer felt anger towards Lee or it, just like she had reached a point where she could just ignore Cormac, much like she had done back in school. Even tonight, the smile she sent Lee when he called her name was genuine

Picking up the rose, she already knew who she was going to choose. “Adrian,” she said, and smiled at him. “You said it yourself, you’re a hard man to get to know, but it’s been a pleasure getting to know what I have so far, and I’d like another week to know more. Will you let me?” It was so easy to be with him, she found. Surprisingly easy. There was no pressure, no expectations, and it was easy to be quiet with him as well, whether it was lounging in beach chairs or reading in the pavilion.

Melinda and Bill

Melinda had gone in to this choosing, figuring it would be an easy task. She would choose Bill and they would have another week together. However, as name after name was called, she ended up finding herself alone facing Bill and Stephen. Her choice was going to send one of the home. It still should have been an easy choice, considering what she now had with Bill and how the chemistry between her and Stephen spoke more of friendship. But it wasn’t. She was tempted to choose Stephen and have Bill go to the other villas where cameras wouldn’t be on him constantly and then make sure that she wouldn’t be chosen next week so she could join him and they could spend their last week here without having to hide and cover like they were doing now…

The thought of spending a week here without Bill, though, was what made her mind up, though she still hated cutting Stephen’s chances here short by choosing for herself. “You and I had a lovely date in New York, Stephen, enjoying food that I’d only ever dreamt of. You are such a sweet man and I know that there’s someone for you, too, but I’m sorry that you won’t find her in here. Know that I had a wonderful time with you and that your show will be playing in Sweet Nothings while I create my own version of that dessert.” Then she looked to Bill. “Bill, will you spend another week here with me?”

Bill had to admit, he had a moment of nervousness when it took Melinda a moment to choose. Though he had developed trust in her enough to know that if she did skip him over, there was likely a very good reason and she'd tell him, it didn't mean he wouldn't be disappointed. He really wanted to develop a relationship with her starting with what they already had. But he wasn't about to be a berk like Cormac about things either.

He relaxed from his slight tensing and gave her a wonderful, warm smile. "Nothing would delight me more," he told her, crossing the distance between them to cup her cheek and kiss her softly.
