Entry tags:!rp, char: blaise zabini, char: lavender brown, season: 1

Characters: Blaise and Lavender
Date:Setting: Great Wall of China
Summary: Learning that every venture with a new female doesn't have to have sexual overtones
Warnings: Blaise might show he's human

Blaise's purpose for being here was two fold. What he had said on the application about being tired of one night stands had a ring of truth to it. Still, while he wanted to find someone worth settling with he found it much easier to continue his current pattern. He had also been tasked with finding out as much as he could about the game to see if this type of programming was something that Magical Games and Sports wanted to involve itself with. That meant that not only did he have a personal agenda but there was professional motive as well. That said, no one could argue that Blaise wasn't taking full advantage of exploring the opportunity from every angle.

"Thank you for accepting," he reiterated once he and Lavender made it to the site where the picnic was set for them. "I wasn't quite sure you would."

"Oh." Lavender's eyes widened slightly at the question. "Well, I don't really think I'd say I've known him for years exactly. More like known of, you know?" She shrugged. "Different year at school, different social circles. Even now our paths don't really cross." Sometimes she might see him in a pub or out at a club when she had a rare weekend off where she didn't feel like staying in.

"As for the draw, I'm not sure I could explain that." Lavender fiddled with the end of her braid. "I'm not sure I want to explain it." It felt like something too special. "It just happened."

Blaise wasn't quite sure he believed her. You weren't in the same house with someone for six years and forge some level of a bond. Then again, most Slytherin knew each other prior to their arrival at Hogwarts. Surely, Gryffindors formed similar bonds that held them together as housemates.

He pickup a plate and offered it her. "Do you think it will last past the villas and beach?" It was odd that he was prying toward her relationship but he wanted to know how those who thought they found love thought. Maybe, it could help him figure out a thing or two about himself as well.

Back in their school days, Cormac had simply been someone to say hello to in the common room or maybe giggle over his handsome face with Parvati, but there had never been any great friendship this. Lavender was fine with that, too, as now they had plenty of common points of reference but no platonic relationship to worry about spoiling.

"Thanks," she said, taking one of the delicious-looking local appetisers from the plate. "Um, yes. I hope so." Hoping for the best was all any of them could really do, wasn't it? For now, they were both so enamoured that getting time together away from cameras and any other prying eyes was likely to be a high priority for both of them once they left the island. "I think we'll try. There's potential there, I'm sure of it," she added firmly.

Blaise turned his focus to the bits of meal before them. One would have thought that after a month in paradise he'd have some clue as to what it was all supposed to be about. Instead though, he found that this experience was leaving him more confused than leaning toward any real answers. After having been accepted to partake in the opportunity he had thought that maybe he'd find a connection. Instead, he found that the way things were going here wasn't necessarily what he was looking for. They were thrown together into situations where he got to have conversations, but there was still the part of him that resorted to his traditional moves. None of it made any sense and the more he thought about it the more unfit he felt as a part of the experience.

Hearing Lavender talk with such certainty simply drove the point home. He'd enjoyed the one date he'd been on thus far but hadn't a clue as to whether it had been worth pursing or not and now he'd never know. Honestly, looking back both choosing Lavender and asking her on this date had been a waste. Still, he hadn't a clue what to do instead so he'd gone with it.

Once he'd finished in silence the item on the first plate he offered, Blaise chose another plate and took his piece before placing it in front of his companion. "You can see the whole country side from here," he said not knowing what else to say and ready to just get this over with.

Lavender pursed her lips. Well, this wasn't going spectacularly well. She briefly turned her attention to the tea, which she judged to be sufficiently brewed. As it happened, Lavender had quite a large collection of tea pots at home, not to mention the tea to brew in them. But somehow she didn't quite feel like sharing that information. Instead, she just poured two small cups.

"Yeah, you can," she agreed softly. "Almost like being at the top of one of the towers at Hogwarts. Just countryside everywhere and a few small signs of life."

Sipping her tea, she struggled to find conversation and ended up settling on the obvious one. "So what do you look for in women you date?" she asked. "You and Millicent are just friends, right?"

Blaise smiled a little when he saw her turn her attention to the tea. It was the main reason he had chosen this location. He wanted to give her the chance to experience something familiar in a new environment. At least in that part he'd succeeded.

"I don't actually date very often," he answered honestly. "Mostly just casual connections. Haven't found anyone I guess worth letting in." He leaned forward and picked up the tea she'd poured for him. "Well, on a more intimate level. Millicent and I have grown up together. She's a good friend, but I've never seen her in any other way."
