RP: Marshmallows!
Characters: Bill and Melinda + Open
Date: 26. January
Setting: The kitchen in Villa Acacia
Summary: Melinda promised Bill she would show him how to make marshmallows
Warnings: TBD, though it’s sticky and gooey and Bill & Mel

Melinda couldn’t quite remember how they had gone from snuggling on a beach chair, watching the sun set over the ocean, to rummaging through the fridge back in Villa Acacia in search of pasteurized egg whites. But they were, and with a whoop of victory, she turned around and held up the small bottle.

“Found them,” she grinned and gave Bill a quick kiss before she handed him the whites and turned back to get the last few things from in there.

“So, it seems that unless we go with mostly artificial flavours, everything readymade is red.” She held up the three bottles. “Raspberry, strawberries or cherry?”

“Yeah?” Melinda asked, her eyebrows raised in question before she shook her head. “I can’t. Not actual food, at least. Sweets, treats, desserts and cakes, sure, but not actual food that isn’t sandwiches or salads.”

With a chuckle she let herself get drawn back close to him, tightening her fingers around his and resting her head back against his chest. “Yeah, gooooey,” she purred. “But before it gets gooey, it’s sticky and that’s when we have to shape it. I’m thinking rolls covered in cocoa, maybe sprinkled with some dried or candied flowers?”

"I can do the basics," he said. "Nothing fancy, but the kids don't complain, at least." Most of the time. "Well, okay, Dominique hates most green things, no matter what, but that's soooo not my fault." And okay, there were lots of leftover from his mom, but he did do some of it himself.

Bill rested his cheek against her hair. "Stiiiicky," he said with quiet glee. "That sounds like fun. Nice and sticky." He lightly nibbled on her ear, playful. "Cocoa sounds very tasty."

Bill talking about his children made Melinda smile. With him standing behind her, she couldn’t see it, but she now knew that when the talk fell on them, his eyes would light up and his smile would soften.

“It is fun,” she giggled, a giggle that turned into a soft sigh when she felt his lips on her ear, “but not as fun as cleaning it off afterwards.” Melinda tilted her head to the side, inviting more kisses. “At least not when you’ve help like this.” She giggled softly. “Cocoa will be the right kind of bitter to match the sweet strawberry and the powder will be a nice contrast to the chewy gooeyness.”

Bill followed her silent invitation, kissing along her jaw softly, down to her neck. "Oh, cleaning up," he said with a warm, amused tone. He knew exactly how he'd like to go about doing that. "I can definitely do the cleaning up, particularly since you're the one cooking."

"All the contrasts make things all yummy and perfect," he agreed. He liked exploring contrasts especially with her lately.

”Mm, hmm,” Melinda purred with a grin. “Contrasts and complimentary flavours is what it’s all about, really.” Bill’s lips were soft and warm against her neck and it was tempting to just put an end to the marshmallows and move this to her shower for a respite from the cameras. However, just as she was about to suggest it, the thermometer signaled that the flavoured syrup had reached the right temperature. Turning her head, she smiled at Bill and pressed a lingering kiss to his lips.

“Now it’s time for you to work,” she smiled at him, before she removed the syrup from the stove, and quickly squeezed most of the water out of the isinglass and put the gelatinous sheets into another pan and set it to melt.

Handing Bill the whisk, she pointed to the bowl with the stiff egg whites. “You whip, I pour,” she smirked at him.

Bill's fingers ghosted across Melinda's waist, just firmly enough so as not to tickle her. If not for the cameras, he knew he'd likely push the envelope further right here in the kitchen; it was honestly that knowledge that kept him from seeing what would happen. He sighed softly into the kiss and let her pull away, smiling warmly in promise at her.

"Yes, ma'am," he said, giving her a faint salute and a wink as he took the whisk and started to have at the stiff egg whites. One hand kept the bowl steady and out towards her slightly, while he kept up the steady motion so she could pour the mixture.

He watched the process with some interest, since this was definitely something he'd never done before. He wondered if he'd be able to remember it well enough to give it a go with the kids at some point.

Melinda gave Bill a perky little bob of her head like she was pleased with his obedience, before she burst out in a soft laugh. Sure, she owned and ran a business, and sure, she told people what to do, but the tone had never been this formal or even militant. Still, it amused her greatly. Or maybe it was just Bill’s presence that made her feel light and happy.

She watched with satisfaction as the red syrup dyed the egg whites an increasingly darker pink. “Keep going,” she told him once the last drop had dripped from the pan, and she was pleased to see that there was no signs of lumps developing. Once she was certain that everything was evenly distributed, she pulled the pan with the melted isinglass from the heat and started pouring it slowly and steadily into the pink mixture. Again, she watched closely to see if the melted gelatin would lump, and only when she was convinced it wouldn’t, did she put a hand on top of Bill’s to stop him.

She took the whisk from him and set the bowl aside, once again casting the Charm that would keep the whisk working without her direct interaction.

“Now,” she said turning around to look at him and leaning back against the kitchen counter, “we figure out what to do while the whisk is whipping.”

Bill was able to keep it firm and consistent as he whipped the stuff together. Not something for the weak, surprisingly enough. No wonder his mother had strong arms -- you couldn't do quite everything with magic. He watched as the color mixed in, and then as the other stuff started to thicken up, never varying his pace unless she said so, trying to make sure that no lumps or excess anything formed.

Now that the stuff was set aside for a little bit, he smirked faintly and put an arm on each side of her, leaning against the counter, playfully trapping her against it. "Oh, whatever could we do," he drawled. "I have no ideas. None at all." His eyes sparkled.
