Madison Valley was weird. Marcos really couldn't think of any other way to describe it because he hadn't ever experienced anything like it before. He was somehow supposed to just have a life when everything - or mostly everything, anyway - was completely different here. The X-Men were not only alive but young, Magneto was somehow not a bad guy or misunderstood villain and currently looking after a small girl, and people came from different versions of the same world. It was enough to give anyone a headache and Marcos had enough on his plate with Lorna and Dawn and trying to figure out that.
He wasn't even really sure what the right move there was, but Marcos knew for a fact that he was going to be present in his daughter's life. Luckily, Lorna didn't seem too against giving him relatively unrestricted access to their daughter, but they still had issues they needed to work through and for now, that meant distance and living apart. Which sucked, even if it was for the better. Marcos knew he would need to find a job soon, to be able to provide support for Dawn at the very least, but a thousand dollars could last a long time for him since he knew how to be frugal.
Of course, the one thing he wasn't really interested in skimping on all the time was food, so he went to the farmer's market and picked up quite a few things so he could cook a bunch of dishes and then freeze them to have later. He was juggling about six bags when he got to the apartment complex's front door and realized he was completely and utterly screwed. There was no way he was going to get his keys out of his pocket, but he was still going to try. Better that then having to actually ask for help.
