Zari remembered Eid being the most anticipated day when she was a child, before ARGUS declared martial law and banned all religion. She'd been so excited and always helped her mother in the kitchen. Now that she was free of that police state, she could feel that way again, excited to celebrate the holiday. Of course she wanted to share it with everyone, especially her friends and found family.
After a morning of reflection and prayer, she started to set up tables for all the food and drinks (non-alcoholic). There were three kinds of biryani, falafel, kuku, and fattoush. There were many sugary desserts like ma'moul, stuffed dates, spiced cookies, and baklava. As promised, there were Middle Eastern donuts. She couldn't make every Eid dish, as that would be impossible, but she did what she could. She might have had a little outside help from a catering service. Whatever the case, there was plenty of food and room for more if anyone else decided to bring something.
There were decorations to reflect the occasion. Hopefully it would be a holiday everyone could enjoy with family and friends. That sense of community was partly what this was all about.
