Somehow, it hadn't dawned on Bucky that Kara could potentially be pregnant from the sex that he didn't want to know about with Johnny Storm. At least not until after he thought about being grateful that V couldn't get pregnant while she'd thought Jeremy Danvers was her husband. It was barely a hop - nevermind a skip or jump - to thinking about what Kara and Johnny Storm had gotten up to. He would've been less upset if Kara and Steve had thought themselves together, but no. The Dome had to go and give him his own little personal hell.

He'd headed for the nearest convenience store and bought out the shelf of pregnancy tests, so focused on getting them and getting home that he didn't even think to ask about asking about their stock in the back. The cashier gave him a funny look but he just impatiently tapped his foot as she scanned it all up and then put his credit card down. Bucky wouldn't be able to tell anyone how many he got or how much it cost. He honestly wasn't even sure how long he was gone for.

As soon as he got in the door, he called out, "Kara!" There was definitely a bit of urgency there as he put the bags on the table to grab a pitcher of water and a glass. It was a bit of a juggling act but he had everything in his hands as he headed up the stairs. She was home, he could hear her moving around their room and he was there right when she opened the door. "You're going to have to pee," he told her as he moved passed her to set everything on their dresser. He poured her a glass of water and handed it to her. "Drink this. It'll help."

Kara wasn't sure where Bucky was when she and Steve got back from having ice cream, but she knew he wouldn't have gone too far, so she headed to their room to get ready for bed. She was braiding her wet hair after a shower when she heard him call out to her. There was something about his tone that made her anxious and she quickly pulled on her robe so she could go downstairs. To her surprise, he was standing there when she opened the bedroom door.

All she could do was stare at him in confusion when he walked past her, set a bunch of things down on the dresser, and then handed her a glass of water, telling her that she was going to have to pee. "Uh... why?" she asked, looking between the glass in her hand and her husband. Bucky had some weird quirks, but this was a whole different thing and she had no idea what was going through his head.

"Because you have pregnancy tests to take," he replied as he started unloading one of the bags. The other bag was for Kate for the next morning but Kara didn't need to know that. "It dawned on me earlier that V an' Stevie must've been glad she was already pregnant before ending up in 1825 or else they might've ended up with Danvers getting her pregnant."

Bucky was starting to unbox the tests and paused to see if she was drinking or not. "I've got a dozen tests so you're going to have to drink at least a couple of glasses," he said, not quite chastising but there was definitely urgency in his tone. "If Storm got you pregnant we need to know. It's been 3 weeks. It should be soon enough." And he was definitely planning on having her get her blood drawn to be absolutely sure either way but the pregnancy tests were a good start.

It was a good thing that Kara hadn't actually started drinking the water yet because she very likely would have choked on it when she processed Bucky's words. Somehow, the thought that she could end up pregnant from her wild west activities had never crossed her mind. And yet, it was probably more of a concern than it should be since she'd been a regular human during that time. Wouldn't that just be terrible luck?

"Uh, okay," she stammered out, downing half of the first glass with wide eyes. What would they do if she was pregnant? There was a slight chance that it could be Bucky's, but would they be able to determine that? If it wasn't, would she actually be willing to terminate the pregnancy? It would be different if it was Steve, but Johnny was not someone she wanted to have that sort of connection to.

Honest directness clearly had been enough to get her to understand the severity of the problem at hand. Bucky had less intense hatred for Johnny Storm since finding out he was proposing to his girlfriend, but that newfound good will was only going to go so far and it would evaporate instantly if any of the tests turned positive.

He nodded and turned back to the boxes. "So it says you're going to have to pee on them for seven to ten seconds and then it'll take five minutes to process." He had a dozen, with a few different brands in the mix because there was always a chance that some of them were defective or faulty. This would be enough to tide him over, but he was definitely going to insist on a blood test. He had to know with absolute certainty that she wasn't pregnant.

"This is going to be the longest five minutes and ten seconds of our lives." He was very afraid of what the answer was going to be and that was very apparent as he unboxed test after test.

His anxiety was palpable and made Kara anxious too. On one hand, she was glad that they realized this possibility before it became an actual issue. She couldn't imagine finding out she was pregnant and then realizing that Bucky might not be the father. That would be beyond devastating for both of them and their marriage.

She finished the first glass of water and poured herself another. "Okay, well, let's not jump to the worst case scenario," she said, though it was clear from her tone that she wasn't far from it. "Let's see what the tests say and then we'll go from there."

Part of her wanted to call her sister right now and beg her to come over, but this was something she and Bucky needed to sort out together first. Kara knew that whatever happened, Alex would be there to support her.

Bucky had already considered the options and the worst of them was absolutely right there in the forefront of his mind. He didn't want to have to deal with that worst case being true because he knew it would be a serious problem that they might not make it back from. With their marriage being as young as it was, and even their relationship, Bucky knew it would change everything for the worse and as much as he was panicking, he was also steeling himself for it to be true.

Still, he nodded and managed a small smile for his wife. "We won't know until you pee," he told her as he held out the first test for her to take. Bucky felt the urge to start pacing, since all he could do was hand her pregnancy tests, but that wouldn't help things. Nothing would help except for getting the answers that they needed.

"Okay, well, I can't pee on command," Kara said. She was just as anxious as he was to get an answer, but Kryptonian biology did share some similarities with human biology. "Let me drink some more water."

She finished the second glass and poured a third. Luckily, her appetite meant that it was very rare she couldn't drink or eat something, so she wasn't uncomfortably full or anything like that. At least not yet. Hopefully the water would work its magic quickly and they wouldn't have to wait too long for her to take the tests.

He knew she couldn't and the flash of frustration that appeared in his eyes was just that, a flash. Bucky took a deep breath and moved to sit down on the edge of their bed, his hands folded on his lap. It was bad enough that they weren't pregnant yet but if Johnny had somehow managed it? He couldn't think about it until it was actually true because it was the worst case scenario.

He couldn't reassure her right now, but he could try not to make it worse. There just wasn't a whole lot to say though. "Take your time." It wasn't as honest as it could have been but it was the best he could do under the circumstances. This had to be some kind of nightmare.

Kara knew that it wasn't honest and his stress was probably going to make it even more difficult for her to actually pee and take the tests. It was an understandable stress though and she was feeling it too. If she ended up being pregnant with Johnny Storm's child, she wasn't sure what that would mean for their marriage. She certainly had no interest in carrying anyone's child but Bucky's and she carried far too much guilt already over the fact that she wasn't sure if she'd be able to do that.

After finishing her second glass of water, she decided to go into the bathroom and at least try. She scooped up the various tests that he'd left on the dresser and took them with her.

It took a few very long minutes, but she finally managed to pee on all of the tests. She washed her hands and went into the bedroom. "Okay, well... all we can do now is wait," she said.

It took a lot of will power to stay seated on the foot of their bed while she went to their bathroom to pee on the tests. He kept his attention split between the bathroom and the clock so that he could time it exactly. There wasn't anything incredibly exact about this but it would at least give him some peace of mind before she had the appropriate blood tests done to confirm with absolute certainty that she wasn't carrying Johnny freaking Storm's baby.

When she came back, he knew he couldn't say anything reassuring. He was too wound up, too freaked out, and he was aware enough about that to know it was better to just not say anything at all. Instead, he reached for her to guide her onto his lap so he could just hold her for the seven minutes it would take for the tests to start to be ready. It was a heavy silence and possibly the longest seven minutes of his life, but once it was done, he nudged her up and then went to look at the first of the tests.

Negative.

Every last one of them was negative. "Thank God," he murmured. That was way too much excitement for one day.

A few times while they waited, Kara thought about speaking, but she couldn't come up with anything to say that would make this situation better. There wasn't anything that could make this better. So she simply sat on Bucky's lap, resting her head against his shoulder as they watched the seconds tick by.

She breathed a huge sigh of relief when they saw that all of the tests were negative. "What do you say we celebrate?" she suggested, wrapping her arms around his neck. Maybe next time she took one of these, it would have a positive result that they would be happy about.

It was very reassuring that every single test was negative, but he wasn't sure he could relax enough to have some time with her like that. Bucky was still wound too tightly and he did honestly half expect that there was something wrong with the tests and that she was pregnant.

"Tomorrow," he replied even as he wrapped his arms around her again. "After your sister confirms that you're definitely not pregnant." A blood test would be absolute proof and then he'd be able to relax. It was silly and probably too much even still, but the sheer terror and panic that he'd felt when the thought had first occurred to him was only just now dissipating. Bucky really just wasn't in the mood after that scare.

"Can we just...I just want to go to bed and hold you all night." He wanted to be close to her but anything more than that wouldn't be real right now.

"Of course," Kara said, hiding her disappointment that he wanted her to have a blood test too. She understood it, but felt like it was probably too much. Alex would be happy to do it though, she knew that, and if it would give Bucky peace of mind, it was worth it.

She pressed a quick kiss against his lips. "Why don't you go get ready for bed," she suggested. "And then we'll get comfy."
