Finn was still confused by this place, but he was settling in. Kurt was a smart and very helpful roommate, and so far, had not seemed to mind explaining… well, everything to Finn. All the appliances, the television, and more, all was weird to him. Even the system of money was odd. He sighed, shaking his head. This world was so far out of his experience, that he just felt lost.
But Kurt helped, a lot. Like with this microwave thing. Finn stared at it, confused, then glanced at Kurt again.
“Ah, how does this work again?”
***
Kurt truly didn’t mind helping Finn figure things out. There had been a few things Kurt had needed to figure out upon his arrival in Madison Valley, having been pulled thirty or so years into the future. And he understood that nearly everything in Madison Valley was new to Finn, so helping him out was no problem.
“Oh, the microwave. You push this button,” Kurt motioned toward the button in question, “and the door opens. Put whatever food you want to heat up inside, then shut the door. These other buttons, the ones with the numbers, tell the microwave how long you want it to heat up the food.”
He leaned against the counter, “It’s really a guessing game with how long to cook things, but usually it takes a few minutes to heat up an item. Especially if it’s frozen first.”
***
Finn followed his instructions, putting the cup of soup inside , closing the door, then looking at what he had written down and putting those numbers in. “Then what?”
He nodded. “But the soup isn‘t frozen, so maybe less time?” He thought. “I wish I could bring a food processor here, and the ingredients. It made pretty good food and all you had to do was select it.”
***
He nodded, “Right. Since the soup isn’t frozen, it won’t take as much time to heat up.” He offered Finn a small smile. “Maybe two or three minutes? You don’t want it too cold, or hot enough to burn your tongue.”
Kurt listened as Finn described the food processor. “That sounds really easy. I kind of wish we had one here, too.” He could cook, but he liked simple things, too. “I dunno, maybe one will arrive for you. I know some people get things from home here every once in awhile.” He wasn’t sure a food processor would arrive here, but it might.
“How are you liking Madison Valley? Adjusting?”
***
“Okay. “ He set two minutes, and then hit the start button, then turned back to Kurt. “That happens here?”
He waved a hand. “I mean, things come from home? I could use a lot of stuff we don’t have here.” He could dream of entire lists of things.
***
“I can’t promise anything, though. I have been here for a while, and I haven’t gotten anything from home, yet.” He’d had Charles Xavier and Raven Darkholme sent home, though, but he wasn’t about to tell Finn this. Not yet, anyway.
“I just know some people get possessions from home here. Weird stuff happens here. I became older, there was a child here that was apparently mine for a while….”
***
Finn nodded. “I hope things come. But not all the things. And… while I hope Rey comes here, I am really not so keen on anyone else arriving.” it would get complicated.
Very complicated.
“That sounds pretty good. “ He paused, then blinked. “You got older? And a child? Whoah.”
He shook his head. This place just got odder and odder.
***
“Rey could quite possibly arrive here,” Kurt said. “I mean, if you did, why couldn’t she?” Kurt wasn’t positive that the Rey Finn wanted to arrive would actually arrive, by why wouldn’t she? Many people came and went in Madison Valley. It was possible.
He nodded, “Yeah, I aged to about 35 or so. The child thing happened before. Apparently in some timeline I’m to have a child with a girl here, called Star Butterfly.” It was a lot to take in, Kurt knew this. It was a lot for him to take in, and he’d been here for some time now.
***
Finn blinked a lot, and sighed, then the microwave beeped and he jumped. It said complete on the digital readout and he nodded. That, he could understand. Retrieving his soup, he checked it with a finger and found it perfect.
“Excellent!”
Then he glanced at Kurt. “I honestly don’t know what to think about what you’ve said. Just… this place is so weird.’ He shook his head. “So, so weird.’
***
Kurt shook his head at Finn’s statement. “It is strange, I know. It’s hard to wrap your head around. I’m having issues with it myself,” he admitted. “My mother was here, the mother I’d never really gotten to know. But she’s gone now.” He didn’t really like the fact that Raven had been sent home, but what could he really do about it?
“You’ll get used to it. We have to get used to it, there’s really nothing else we can do, is there?”
***
Finn nodded, wincing. “I’m sorry. Maybe she will come back?”
He gently and awkwardly patted the man’s shoulder and decided to eat his soup before it got cold. “Thanks for the help, and for being here. You are amazing.’ He nodded.
***
“No problem at all, Finn. Let me know if there’s anything else you need, yeah?” He grinned at Finn, and decided to scrounge around in the fridge for something to eat, himself. It was around that time, now wasn’t it? The time for food.
He was glad Finn had agreed to be his roommate, and he really didn’t mind answering the man’s questions. He knew it was a lot to take in.
