It was now the first of September, which meant that Paige was now well into her third trimester. They were quickly approaching the end - or the beginning, depending on how you cared to think about it. Lucas himself saw it as both. It was an end to the preparation, the anticipation, the worry that there would be another profound loss. But it was the beginning of parenthood, and of the family that he and Paige so desperately wanted.
They were nearly finished with the preparations, although in many ways Lucas believed that there was no way to prepare to suddenly be the father of twins. He realized that much would have to be learned on the go, and to someone like Lucas, that was not an entirely comfortable thought. He liked to plan for all eventualities, but in this case, it was impossible.
Because Paige was supposed to be resting, Lucas had taken over such chores as going grocery shopping. He didn't mind doing it, as through her entire pregnancy he had felt largely useless.
And so there he was, briefcase stashed in the basket, carefully waking up and down the aisles, trying to choose the healthiest food for his pregnant wife and future children.
