Nora had no idea what she was supposed to do. She had a child. A very adorable redheaded four year old girl, yes, but a child nonetheless. Or, at least, she assumed this child was hers. She kept being referred to as Mommy and the girl seemed to come to her for whatever she needed. So, yes, she was her mother. Apparently this child was hers in the future? This whole Madison Valley thing was really getting to her. At least Weiss had a child, too, so Nora wasn’t alone in the house with one.
She decided to take Lizzie to the park (because that’s what the girl called herself) and make the best of the situation. Kids liked parks, right? From what Nora remembered, kids liked parks. So with Lizzie’s hand within her own, Nora made her way to the park.
Once there, Lizzie insisted on being pushed on the swings. That was easy enough. Nora could do that.
This was Erin's second go with the whole future kid thing and she was handling it a little better this time since she actually knew and liked the guy she had a kid with. Not only that, but they were dating and in love. That made alone made this whole thing better. Henry ( or Hank as he insisted on being called for some reason ) was twelve and probably the world's first magewolf. The full moon was going to be interesting that was for sure.
The two had been out for lunch that day and decided to talk a detour through the park on the way home. Hank insisted that he was too old to play on the playground but as soon as he saw the swings, he ran over and hopped on. "Oh no too big for the swing I see" Erin teased as she moved to sit in one beside him.
"Too big for the swings?" Lizzie exclaimed, and looked up at Nora with big eyes. "No one is too big for swings." Nora laughed softly, and continued to push her future daughter, making her go a little higher. "You're right. That's why that boy's on the swings, because they're the best." She grinned at Lizzie, and glanced over at Erin. "Hi." Nora wasn't certain if the boy was the young woman's son or brother, either could be possible in Madison Valley. Especially since Nora had an unexpected child at the moment.
"Looks like they had the same idea. A staple really, swings. Impossible not to like them."
"Swings are cool, just not everything else. The rest of the stuff is for babies" Hank insisted as he began swinging. He was twelve now, so he was most certainly not a baby anymore and he didn't hesitate to remind his parents of that. He was old enough now to do a lot of things he couldn't before and he was sticking to that.
"You're the girl that keep wanting storms" Erin commented when the presumed mother part of the duo said hi to her. Storms never used to bother her. She could easily put on headphones and be fine but ever since that last huge intense storm, she'd developed a hug distaste for thunder. Stupid sensitive ears. Thank God for Presto.
"I love storms!" Nora grinned over at Erin. "I have this thing with thunder and lightning and I love it." She nodded a bit at this, then peered down at her daughter. Daughter, that was so weird. "Do you mind if I swing, too?" Lizzie shook her head, and looked over at the older boy. "Do you want to slide?" she asked him, in her little voice. Nora kicked lightly at the dirt beneath her feet, "I can use lightning, so I kinda have to like it." Not that she minded. She'd like to think that she'd like it regardless. "I'm Nora, by the way."
"You can take that thunder and shove it where the sun don't shine" Erin grumbled, as she swung. She'd be happy if another storm never happened again.
"Slides are for babies" Hank told her before he jumped off of his swing when it was in mid air, landing on his feet with ease. "But we can play tag"
"Erin" She replied before giving her son a look. "You know that wouldn't be fair"
"But it'd be fun" Hank pointed out as he turned around to face them.
Nora shrugged at Erin's words. "I suppose they're not for everyone," she admitted. "I'll lay off wanting the huge ones, then. Just little ones." She quietly watched the interaction between Lizzie and Hank, waiting to see what Lizzie would decide.
"But I'm not a baby," Lizzie seemed to decide. "And I like slides." She looked toward the two older girls, "I'm not a baby."
Nora offered Lizzie a smile, "Of course you're not, sweetie. You can slide if you want."
"Those ones I can handle" Erin replied, slowing down on her swinging as she watched the exchange between her son and the little girl. "You're a big girl, right?" She asked the girl with a smile.
"You wanna play tag or not?" Hank asked impatiently with his arms cross over his chest. He had clearly gotten that from Erin, who could be impatient sometimes too.
"Why don't you magic up a soccer ball or something?" Erin suggested, knowing full well that he could do that. Presto had taught him well.
Lizzie nodded enthusiastically at Erin. Clearly Erin understood that Lizzie was not a baby. Lizzie decided this meant that she must like the woman. This woman was clearly intelligent. She then peered over at Hank, wrinkling her nose for a moment. "Okay, but then you have to slide with me," she bargained.
Nora grinned at this. That was one way to get what she wanted
Hank seemed to think about it for a moment then he shrugged his shoulders. "Alright I guess" A beat passed then he reached out and tapped the young girl. "TAG!" He yelled out before taking off, his speed that unlike a human. Though he was only half wolf, his speed was still matched with that of a dog like his mother. He was even faster when the full moon was close but that was still a few days away so he wasn't there yet. "She's never going to catch up" Erin commented as she swung her feet back and forth.
Lizzie's eyes widened as Hank took off. She hadn't expected him to be super fast. Instead of attempting to keep up with him, she pouted and looked like she might cry. "Shit," Nora murmured, and stepped toward the girl. "He's bigger than you, love, of course he's faster." Lizzie looked up at Nora for a moment, "I just wanted to slide," she said, voice quavering.
Erin knew that wasn't going to go well and she sighed as she got off of her swing. "Hold on" She told them before she jogged over to where Hank had stopped. Leaning down, the two of them had a conversation that Lizzie and Nora couldn't hear and a minute or two later, they walked back towards them together. Hank looked up to his mom for a moment then she looked down to the little girl. "I'm sorry. We can go slide" He told her, his voice sounding sincere. He even gave her a smile and held his hand out to her so he could walk her over there.
Lizzie beamed up at the older boy, and nodded. "Thank you," she said as she sniffled softly. She was getting over being upset about the whole tag deal, she was glad she was able to go slide.
Nora gave Erin a grateful look, "I don't know what you did, but thanks. I don't think I could have handled another meltdown."
"Let's go" Hank told her with a smile, taking her hand to walk over there with her. Soon the two of them were having a blast together and Hank remembered that the slide was pretty fun. It wasn't for babies.
"I just know how to talk to my kid" Erin replied with a shrug of her shoulders as she watched them play.
