The day had started off like any other for Liz - she woke up before anyone else did ( even Topanga sometimes! ) and got a shower before heading downstairs to get breakfast going. She liked to have it almost ready before everyone woke up and got down stairs so no one had to wait. When she saw the back of a brown head sitting at the island in the kitchen, she assume it was Riley and didn't think anything of it as she moved to get everything out for French toast.
"Good morning" She spoke with her back towards the girl as she got the eggs out.
"Hi mom" Came a voice she had never heard and it made her drop the eggs in her hands.
Eggs splattered onto the floor as she turned around to look at the girl. No, that was definitely not Riley. Right away she knew what this was and how much Shawn was going to freak out. She had no doubt in her mind that this girl was hers with Shawn because of how much she looked like the both of them.
"Shawn!" Liz called out as she stared at the girl in bewilderment. "You might want to get down here"
Shawn was already up and starting to get dressed when he heard Liz calling out to him. Her tone wasn't panicked, so he assumed nothing dangerous was going on, though she would be the better equipped of the two of them to handle something like that anyway, but he still hurried down the stairs, pulling his shirt over his head as he did. When he got into the kitchen, he stopped in his tracks when he spotted the unfamiliar girl sitting at the table.
"It's that time of the year again" Liz told him, as if that explained everything.
This was not the first time future children have descended upon Madison Valley and it surely wouldn't be the last. This was a first for her and Shawn, though. Part of her wondered if Emily would show up but she couldn't think about that right now, she had to focus on the child in front of her. "You're our daughter, right?"
"Yeeeah" Alexandra replied, looking at them like they were crazy. "Is this MV weirdness again? Is that why you don't know me and you look super young?
"It seems to be that way" Liz replied, looking over to Shawn to see his reaction to all of this.
This had happened once before during Shawn's time in town, not too long after his arrival, and it freaked him out pretty bad then. It was still a little disturbing now, but far less so. Especially having a kid with Liz. That was something that could potentially happen in the future. Maybe.
"It's definitely Madison Valley weirdness," he said. "It's 2017. I'm guessing that means you haven't been born yet." He wasn't sure if he wanted to know what year she was supposed to be born. That might be too much pressure.
"No wonder this thing is so ancient" Alexandra comments, lifting up the phone sitting near her. She was used to technology that was far more advanced than this. This was like a phone from the cave man era. It took her seconds to figure out how to work this one as she waited for someone to come downstairs and make her breakfast.
As Liz moved forward towards Shawn, she stepped on a shell and remembered that she had dropped the eggs. Leaning down, she waved her hand over them and they were like brand new in seconds, even going back into the carton. "What's your name, sweetie?" She wondered as she put the carton on the counter for when she eventually made the French toast.
"Alexandra Cory Hunter but everyone calls me Lexie"
Shawn laughed at her assessment of their technology. Considering how much things had changed since he was a teenager, he could only imagine what she was used to dealing with. "So, Lexi," he said. "Do you have any siblings?" It was a fair question, he thought. They probably didn't want to ask too much about the potential future, but that seemed safe enough to know.
And Liz seemed to be handling things well enough with breakfast, so he moved to start making coffee, figuring that if the last time this happened was anything to go by, they were going to need a lot of it to get through the next few days.
"Just Maya" She replied as Liz began getting breakfast going. Just incase move kids showed up. she decided to make enough to feed an army. If there was a lot left over, that wouldn't be a bad thing because she could just freeze it for another time. "I mean I can't blame you for stopping at perfection and not having anymore after me" She added on with a grin as she got up to help her mother.
"She has your sense of humor" Liz told Shawn with a smile, then she directed her smile at her new daughter as she came over to help. "Thank you"
Oh, there was no doubt this was his kid, though Shawn was relieved that they didn't have a whole passel of them. One was more than enough, though he wondered why the universe hated him and kept giving him daughters. Maybe it was karmic retribution for the way he treated girls as a teenager. First Maya, now Lexi. He wondered if he had a head of grey hair in her time.
"Speaking of, have Maya and Riley made an appearance yet this morning?" He was also nervous that they had kids show up again. It happened last time and he wasn't sure if he had the strength to handle it again.
"Still sleeping?" Lexi guessed as she helped crack the eggs. Her parents were the first sign of life she'd seen since she got there. It was going to be so weird to see Maya and Riley looking all young. Quick math told her they were probably around the same age as her in this time frame and that made it even more weird. "So you two aren't married yet?" She asked without looking up from the eggs.
"We thought we were last month but after we came out of it, we decided we're not ready for that yet" Liz answered as she put a whole package of bacon into the oven. "One day though" She added on as she looked to Shawn with a smile. She needed to remember to talk to Topanga about the legal matters that came with that. She hadn't gotten around to talking to the name she was given yet but now she didn't have to.
"Does that mean we did the traditional thing and waited until we were married to have you?" Shawn asked. Maybe that wasn't an appropriate question to ask his kid, but he was curious and it might give him a general sense of how long until she actually existed. He knew that he and Liz weren't ready for marriage yet, but they might be in a year or two.
He glanced up at the ceiling. Thanks to Liz's soundproofing, he couldn't hear anything going on. Part of him wondered if he should go up and check to see if the girls had unexpected visitors. He decided against it. They would show up looking for help if they needed it.
Before Lexi could answer Shawn, she and Liz both reached for the same fork and as their hands touched, Liz got a vision.
She hadn't had many of them while in Madison Valley but it seemed like the dome wanted her to know their future at that exact moment. She stopped what she was doing as the flashes played in her head, ending as soon as they started. It was quick but she saw enough to give Shawn his answer.
"Tell him what you saw" Lexi encouraged, knowing Liz had a vision by the look on her face.
"We get married after we have her" Liz replied as she looked over to Shawn, a smile spreading on her face as she thought about what she saw. "She was ... will be ... our flower girl. Can't be more than two in what I just saw" She left it there for now, deciding to tell Shawn the rest of what she saw in private.
Shawn watched in confusion as Liz paused, seemingly lost in thought for a moment before speaking. "Okay, well, I guess that's good to know," he said. He still was pointedly avoiding asking Lexi what year she was born. He didn't want to know too much about their future, even though it sounded like a pretty good one and Lexi seemed like a good kid.
It would be kind of cool to get to know her though. Like a sneak peek at what was ahead. The kind of thing that only happened in Madison Valley.
At the confusion on Shawn's face, she looked between her parents for a moment. "He knows you can see the future, right?" She asked as she looked back to her mom. Did she get here at a time before her mon had told her dad about her alien powers? Did she just open up a can of worms without realizing it? "And that you have all these other cool powers? Or did I just make things really weird because he has no idea?"
"No he knows about them" Liz answered as she moved to get another fork out as Lexi grabbed the one they had both reached for. "Just not the future seeing one. It hasn't really come up because I don't get visions that often"
"I found out when I was six and she saw me get into a bad accident with my bike" Lexi told Shawn as she moved to check on the bacon. "Like really bad. I couldn't ride my bike for a few days without her being outside with me so she could make sure it didn't happen"
"Huh, yeah, that's new," Shawn said. He wasn't shocked or put off by it, he'd accepted long ago that Liz had special abilities and some of them came in quite handy for them on a regular basis. "But cool."
He did wonder what happened to make them wait to get married, but it wasn't a big deal. They weren't in a big rush to push forward with their relationship at the moment. Things were good how they were right now.
