The sudden influx of people arriving had made Tris nervous. She hadn’t been a big people person before, and now there were so many more new ones to keep track of. Some of them were interesting and people that she would like to get to know better, but most of them she wasn’t sure about.
One of the ones that seemed to be a practical person and she wanted to get to know better was Clove. The other girl also seemed to know her way around a knife, which Tris appreciated. A lot of the people here used guns and it was rare to find someone who used a different weapon. Darryl was one -- with his crossbow -- and so was Clove. It made Tris feel a little less alone due to her PTSD about the whole gun issue back home.
She was also pretty sure that she was being monitored to make sure that she made connections with others of the refugees. She hadn’t told Tobias that she felt like someone was watching her because she knew how protective he could get. As much as she liked his overprotective urges sometimes, she also wasn’t sure she was really being watched or if her mind was playing tricks on her. Sometimes she woke up from nightmares covered in sweat and she had to fight to remember that this was really happening; that she wasn’t in a simulation. She wasn’t being tortured.
She should probably tell someone about the nightmares and what had happened to her, but she wasn’t sure who to tell. Everyone in this crazy place had their own trauma to deal with and even though Georgia told her she could come to her if she needed help, she didn’t want to add to her stress and worries. Being a representative was stressful enough and Tris didn’t want to put her mental issues on top of all of that.
She also thought about talking to Shaun because he seemed to be someone she could be friends with, but she didn’t want anyone to know how crazy she really was. She didn’t think he would judge her about her issues, but she wasn’t really used to reaching out to anyone for help for herself. Oh sure, she could ask for help all day long for anyone else around her, but she sucked at asking for help for herself.
Tris cursed under her breath and grabbed her coat. She needed to get away from the thoughts chasing around her head and the best way to deal with that was target practice. There were very few problems you couldn’t pretend didn’t exist as long as you were focusing on some kind of work.
They may not be at war here, yet, but she wasn’t going to run the risk of losing her edge or continuing to hone her skills with all blades.
If that didn’t work, well, she’d see if she could find a sparring partner or two on the network.
