While Belle understood the people who arrived angry and terrified, immediately looking for a way to get home, she was finding--somewhat to her surprise--that she was enjoying it here in Madison. True, it was nothing like the Enchanted Forest, and her heart never stopped aching for home, or the people she'd left there. But for the first time in years, she was free. And, for the first time ever, she was living a life that was wholly her own. No father or fiance to answer to, a home and a job that were completely and utterly hers, the sort of life she never could have had back home.
She would have taken any job, of course--the girl who had walked away to clean a monster's home wouldn't have snubbed being this world's equivalent of a tavern girl if she had to--but she had been positively overjoyed to find this world had no problem with employing women in libraries, and while she didn't understand the computers or all the materials she shelved, she was a quick learner and the small challenges every day helped distract her mind from the more painful things. At least, for a few hours. She still cried nearly every night, like she had in those early days with Rumple--only, this time, she found she was crying more for him than her lost family.
But she stubbornly not thinking about that now, as she left the library and walked towards home. No, the reason she was distracted so that she bumped into a stranger--at least, the reason she would have told anyone who asked, and that was mostly true--was that she was thinking about the book she'd checked out to a spectacled-girl today, one about a woman in love with a time traveling man. She'd have to check that out herself, ne--
"Oh, I'm sorry!" she exclaimed, suddenly, when she felt her body hit another's. "A-are you all right?"
