I finished my last meeting for this year with my advisor and won't have to check in until the new year. This means a much needed break from my thesis to enjoy some free time and the holidays, which I plan to take advantage of.

I'll probably still work on my thesis a bit, but nowhere near like I've been until January.

What are you studying in school?

I'm finishing up my degree in psychology.

That is wonderful! Do you enjoy your classes?

My classes were all completed back in my world, except for one, which I did here as an agreement to where I only have my thesis now. But yes, I did enjoy them, especially in grad school since the classes fit more with your degree than in undergrad.

Isn't it interesting how that works? School requires us to get through all of these classes that we don't enjoy just to get to the ones we really need.

It's a pain, but it makes sense. During undergrad, which is where most of those classes happen, they want to ensure they give you different perspectives and other skills. Also, it may introduce you to an interest you didn't know you had. So it can be useful, but man, it can be rough simultaneously.

It's important to remember to breathe, Jenna.

I know, I'm remembering. I might need to get that on a recording when it comes time to defend my thesis because that will be a whole different story.

Are you excited for Hazel's first holiday season? I could have asked you at work, but I'm asking here instead.

I will also happily remind you of it whenever you like.

We are! Mostly we're -- or at least I'm -- looking forward to the various adorable pictures we'll be able to get at Christmas.

I greatly appreciate that because, when the week of my defense finally arrives, I'll probably need that reminder.

Aww, I'm looking forward to seeing those pictures! And I also picked her up something I saw and thought was adorable.

I didn't get to spoil my niece and nephew at that age cause I was young, so I get to do it now for my friend's kids. But yeah, she will be on my end.

It is also time to decompress and clear my head before it's the final push to finish up my paper. For the most part, some corrections and things I needed to change along with tips that were given, but yeah, it went well.

You and me both since I can't wait to be done with it completely. Spending more time with friends and family probably shut my mind off with some mindless TV or book that has nothing to do with my subject.

Sounds like a very good time. Though, if you ever decide you want to live through your books there's always the Holodeck.

Hey, I'm going to enjoy this tiny little break. So, I'll give myself until at least dinner tomorrow before I'm probably poking at my notes.

Just me sitting in a chair with my fingers tapping or leg bouncing as I think about that paper.

I need to finish some shopping, saving me from reaching that point for a bit. You can join me, hoping to catch me feeling twitchy, or you can come by later and see about watching something if you're free.

Well, that's one way to avoid thinking about the paper. Sure. I don't work tomorrow. Whatever you're feeling.

I know my brain needs the break, and I want to enjoy the holidays since I won't be getting any more back home, so I should be fine not touching my paper until the new year.

How about we do a movie or two and order some food?

Your brain probably does need a break. Good.

Sure. Sounds good to me. Just please no cheesy Hallmark movies.

It does, or the next few months will be a nightmare on trying to finish it up. I'd also hate to miss out on any holiday fun.

You don't want to watch.....Letters to Santa. I had to google Hallmark movies so I could name one. I rarely sit through those movies unless the premise catches my attention. This means you're safe from dealing with those movies, I promise.

You should definitely not miss out on holiday fun.
Should we get some Pillsbury cookies to bake?
Or I can bake some actual tasty cookies.

Oh God that sounds awful. lol I like the classics.

If you feel like baking, be my guest. But the Pillsbury ones also work if you're not in the baking mood.

From the brief plot, it doesn't sound very good. We can check out the classics or see what's trending, and if anything fitting, this time of year sounds worth checking out.

Movie and junk food night sounds like a great plan. It feels like it's been forever.

I'd like to catch up with you too. It's kind of nice to say I don't have anything majorly dramatic to talk about. Nice and strange

It really does. We'll need to make time for more of them since it was one of my favorite things to do back in our world. We can pick whatever movie is trending and looks good, then enjoy whatever junk we feel like!

Hey, I'm all for nothing majorly dramatic! It seems this place is a nice break from all that for everyone, and you deserve to have nothing dramatic going on, Elena. But let me know when you're free, and we can do some movies, junk food, and catch up.

It's so strange that 'our world' seems like a normal thing to say now.

I know, but it's still weird. Probably how it feels like when you graduate from college and you no longer have classes which you've been used to for the first 18 years of your life or so

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]cheese_fries

It really is, and how natural it sounds to say it without even a second thought.

Any new changes can be weird. Whether graduating from college or high school, the whole dynamic changes, and it can be offputting and weird.
