Tess' life in Madison Valley was quiet, calm, uneventful -- well, the Madison Valley version of it, at any rate. It still took her by surprise sometimes that she was there, that she could be in the middle of chaos and it wasn't chaos likely... well, okay, it was still chaos likely to cause trouble and sometimes it might hurt someone, but it wasn't chaos like what she'd spent a year in. She could readily live with that.
Thoughts of that other Madison Valley had been on her mind the past couple of days, since she'd seen the news that Eliot had returned home. He'd been kind to her, when he hadn't even really known her, and that made things hurt just a little more. Nothing compared to Margo's pain, of course, but hurt in its own right. She hoped he'd returned to decent things.
Those thoughts had also made her stop to think about how she needed to check on the others that had come over from that other Madison Valley. Not all of them were still there, but she needed to check on the ones that were. And she needed to check in on her friends.
Well, maybe not needed, but absolutely wanted to. She didn't have so many friends that she could afford not to check in.
At the moment, though, she was browsing at the bookstore. As much as she was going to check in on her friends and the others, she needed to not be overthinking things so much when she did it. She'd always love bookstores, had worked in one after she'd first returned, back home. Whether or not she actually bought anything, something about the aimless meandering was reassuring.
Kind of like now.
