WHAT: Looking for a costume

So Stiles was steering clear of Spirit Halloween, which meant he was either going to have to have something made, or pick up something at Walmart. Having something made would cost a whole lot more and since he and Kate were saving for a house, he didn't want to have to pay for something ridiculously expensive. Plus, costumes didn't have to be super fancy. He could probably mostly wear his clothes, even. Maybe get a mask.

That thought had him at Walmart early in the morning, before he was due in at work at nine. Thankfully, this early in the morning, there weren't very many screaming kids there, so he could browse mostly in peace.

He tried on a couple of masks, looked at himself in the mirror, and made scary faces at himself. He didn't find any that were perfect, but there were a few that were fun at least, so he tried them on again, peeking around the corner to see if there was anyone he could scare/ask their opinion. He was up for any sort of costume as long as it didn't make him look like the Nogitsune. Which had basically just looked like him.

Given that Katharine knew absolutely nothing about this world, other than what her guardian and her guardian's betrothed told her, the young queen decided to go explore on her own. And, since this place was completely unfamiliar, it was decided she'd home school. Which seemed weird because she'd never attended any kind of school before.

Today she wanted to explore a bit and found herself at Walmart. After today, the Poisoner Queen might not return to Walmart. Nothing seemed high quality and the masks confused her more than anything.

She'd decided to try a snack called Snickers and turned a corner to see if the other aisles could assist her in figuring out what was happening.

	As she turned the corner, Stiles, in his mask, was right there. He'd been joking in his mind about scaring people, but he really hadn't meant to, so he pulled back a few steps, taking the mask off. "Sorry! OMG, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to actually scare you." Hopefully she didn't have magical powers or something that would leave him cursed. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

The dead queens stirred in Katharine, but the Poisoner Queen could ignore them at the moment. She definitely jumped back and nodded at the apology. "Is that the point of the masks? To scare people?" Katharine truthfully didn't understand at all.

"I don't understand this world, but these snacks called Snickers intrigue me." Katharine looked around this aisle. "I'm Katharine." Not pronounced like Katherine but Kat-A-Reen.

"Yeah...but I didn't mean to really scare anyone, you know? I was totally just going for a jumpscare. Yeah, maybe it was a shitty thing to do. Sorry again."

He put the mask back on the shelf - in the wrong place, but it was still on the shelf in the Halloween isle, so it was maybe just neutral evil.

"Snickers are amazing he said. I like Reese's Cups better, but I'll definitely eat a snickers. Are you looking for the whole candybars or the fun sized ones? If you want trick-or-treaters to love you, totally get the big ones."

The black-haired queen blinked and nodded again, still confused. "It's fine." She picked her battles and a human apologizing didn't seem like a battle to choose.

She immediately returned it to the correct place, as one who was raised to be organized among other things.

Again a blink, because non of his words made sense. "I don't understand any of what you just said."

His eyes widened.

"Then you don't know candy!" What a horrible thing that would be, not to understand all the amazing treats in this world.

"Look. You're clearly new here, so let me get you a basket together here, of stuff you have to try."

He couldn't stand the idea of someone not knowing all the different kinds of candy bars that you could try in this place.

	"Candy? Pretty much, yeah." If Stiles had any idea that she was poisoning said candy, he'd have nothing to do with this conversation. But he didn't, so... "I mean, some people think that the veil between the worlds is lowest on Halloween, so that the spirits of the dead can cross over, but for me it's basically about candy." She didn't poison anyone besides herself. Katharine hadn't eaten a meal without poison since she'd turned six. The Poisoner Queen came with certain expectations, even if she hadn't always shown a knack for it before her death...that she didn't want to think about.

Katharine couldn't help the look of alarm, and felt the spirits of the dead queens stirring in her. In the words of local colloquialism, fuck. "Oh that's certainly a belief. Come on, show me your favourite candy." Maybe Katharine wouldn't completely hate everything. She offered a smile, trying to not feel the dread.

	"Sure, come on." Stiles was glad to show off all of his favorite candies because yeah, there was more than one. This was one of the great things about Madison Valley, exposing all the new people to awesome things like candy. "I'll even buy you something so you can try it."
