Delayed gratification wasn't his thing but since Henry wasn't returning texts there was little he could do about the fact that the man had snuck out of his bed (and the COUNTRY) in the middle of the night when he woke up alone. Pez at least had texted to say goodbye and apologize. But His Royal Jackass was silent.
It was worse this time, at least the first time it was just the loss of a friend. Who had kissed him. Who he might have liked a little bit. Now it felt like his heart had been ripped out of his chest. Freaking royalty.
He lasted a week before he used his air miles to get a ticket for the next flight to London, even if what he heard wasn't what he wanted to hear when he got there, at least he'd be able to move on. After some thought he got a ticket for Amy too, he was going to do something crazy but he wasn't reckless enough to travel without a Secret Service agent.
His mom would murder him if he got himself killed. And Zahra would kill him if he caused another international incident.
He threw some things in his backpack, laptop, a change of clothes, a copy of The End of the Affair because (he was nothing if not on theme), texted Nora that he was taking her advice and to run interference with his folks and was soon climbing into the back of a black SUV to go to the airport. As they turned out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave the headlights of another car flashed and everything went white. He shielded his eyes and when he opened them again he was standing in the middle of a park.
"What the hell," he turned in a slow circle frowning as he took in the park. This was not London.
A fact that became even more evident when someone from the Welcome Committee accosted him to explain, leaving him standing there even more confused than he had been BEFORE his welcome.
"I think I might be having a nervous breakdown..." He said to no one in particular and rubbed at his temples. Who knew it would be about getting thrust into a science fiction novel and not about being in an ill fated gay romcom.
