Who: Daniel Jackson and RepliCarter
What: Fifth isn't the only creep in town
Where: in town
When: Sunday afternoon
Warnings: RepliCarter is almost as creepy as Fifth
Status: complete gdoc
The replicator that was created in the image of Samantha Carter tended to think of herself as Carter and her human counterpart as Samantha, in large part because her creator preferred to think of the woman by her first name. After the betrayals, Carter could not understand why Fifth still believed himself to be in love with Samantha. She had memories of the woman’s emotions though she lacked the practical experience of them. The longer they were in this strange little town, the more she wanted to understand, especially after going into Samantha’s head and learning about both her relationship with Jack O’Neill and the existence of their daughter. So when Fifth finally put his plan in motion and captured the human Samantha, Carter took advantage of the opportunity to explore the town and perhaps gain a better understanding of human emotion.
Being a machine, Carter didn’t experience the weather the way a human would, though she took her cues from the other humans around and wore a light jacket over her tank top and jeans despite not feeling a chill. It would help her blend in with the others. Her intention was to seek out O’Neill and the child called Six, though when she spotted a familiar figure exiting a shop, she put that plan on hold.
“Hello, Daniel,” she said. While she looked and sounded exactly the Samantha Carter he was used to, there was a slightly flat affect to her words.

Sunday mornings meant coffee and donut runs before figuring out plans with Vala, and today was probably going to be a good one with them both having the day off. Thankfully, whatever had been going on with the power and internet wasn’t affecting Starbucks today, so he was able to get in and out with their orders and head back to the house.
He really wasn’t expecting to run into Sam this early though. “Hey Sam. Did Jack break the coffee machine, or were you looking for something different today?”
*
The reaction was unexpected. Carter did not expect that Samantha’s friends and loved ones would mistake her for the human counterpart. That was interesting. “I am looking for something different today,” she said. It was the truth; she was looking for enlightenment, not sustenance. “Why do you come here?”
She assumed he was seeking sustenance and wondered if that would be confirmed.

It wasn’t so much the question, but how she asked it that had Daniel blinking. And then looking back at Starbucks, then at his cup. “Are we talking in an existential matter, or the whole corporation destroying small businesses matter? Because I’m pretty sure we’ve had this discussion several times.”
Because yes, he could have gone to Horst’s, but it was farther away from his place, and he had been a little desperate for his caffeine fix.
He gave her a judging look as he took a drink, and it was then that something tipped him off that this wasn’t their Sam.
“So, which world are you from? One with the evil, power-source stealing teams, or just one of the dead-inside ones?”
*
Expression remaining passive, Carter said, “I am from your world, Daniel.” She wasn’t really trying to fool him into believing she was his Samantha, but the question about what world she was from didn’t compute. As far as the replicator was aware, there was one world - the one which she and her kind were attempting to control.
“Your presence makes my mission easier,” she continued. “I can access your knowledge of the Ancients and learn how to end the Asgard once and for all.”

Well, that answered all his questions, and had Daniel backing up a few steps and taking a quick look around. Thankfully there were others on the street at the moment. Daniel didn’t even bother trying to type at the moment, he just hit the record button on his phone to send Jack a voice text.
“We killed you guys, back in our world. I don’t know why the dome thought to bring you here, but we’ll just kill you again.” He was pretty sure they would. Will all the magic and superpowers around, someone had to have someway to hold them off until Sam could get this figured out.
“I don’t suppose you’ll give me a heads up on where Five is? Because if you’re here, he’s probably skulking around somewhere, being an annoying replicant.”
Hopefully that would be enough, and Jack would know what the hell was going on.

“You are certainly welcome to try, Daniel,” Carter said. She had no idea what he was doing with his phone, but several other people walked by just then and she knew that she couldn’t get the information she wanted from him without attracting unwanted attention.
Of course she wasn’t going to confirm that Fifth was also in Madison Valley. The two of them had plans that they were setting in motion and she had no intention of letting anyone stop them this time. “I will find you later,” she said before walking away.

There were a lot of witty comments in Daniel’s head as RepliSam walked away, but he held his tongue. Instead, he turned and headed home as quickly as possible, texting Jack as he went.
