WHO: Stiles Stilinski and Max Mayfield
WHAT: Random meeting/Match-up
WHEN: Tonight
WHERE: At Hinkles
WARNINGS: TBD, probably not
STATUS: Closed/Ongoing/Match-up

Kate was gone. Just as they were starting to talk about moving in together again, the stupid Dome took her. It was incredibly unfair, and it hurt a lot. He wanted to get drunk, but he wasn't old enough yet, and while he could probably get someone to buy him liquor, he'd just pig out on burgers instead. He went inside Hinkles and ordered a werewolf special. He wasn't a werewolf, and he couldn't eat as much as a werewolf, but he really didn't care at the moment. He wanted to pig out on comfort food, and that was that.

He sat at his table drinking his shake as he waited for his burgers, feeling really bummed out about this place. He'd gotten used to it, and maybe even had started liking it, and then they had to take away his girlfriend. Why? Why did this place have to suck so much?

He saw a girl about his age come in, and he looked down at the empty table, looking as depressed as he felt.

Max had been using the need to adjust to a different time and catching up on everything as a way to try and ignore the hurt that she felt. The numb feeling was being ignored in very unhealthy ways, and she knew it, but she also didn’t fully care. It’s not like she could change what happened to Billy; however, she could very much blame herself for the whole thing. Max also didn’t want him to show up here, knowing it was evil to even think that and wrong, but it was safer for her and other people. He was an ass and she knew that. Still, she felt horrible for not wanting him to have a second chance. Did that make her a bad person?

Deciding to stop for some food before going to check out the skateboard shop, Max noticed some guy who had been looking at her then was looking at his table. She knew that look. It had been her look ever since the incident in the mall back in her world. Placing her order, she headed in the direction that he was and stopped for a moment, finding herself feeling the need to check. “Are you okay?”

"No, not really," he said, raising his eyes to her after he said it. He didn't really want to discuss his feelings with a random person, but hell, he wasn't the only one who went through this. People left all the time and as much as that sucked, he was hardly the first one left behind.

He indicated with a hand that she sit in front of him. It wasn't like he was eating with anyone, after all.

"I'm Stiles. My girlfriend was sent home, so that kind of sucks."

Max didn’t like the idea of approaching strangers, especially since she knew she wouldn’t be at all comfortable sharing her feelings with a stranger. Still, she knew the look and she would’ve kicked herself if she hadn’t checked. If this was any of her friends, she’d want someone to check on them. The last thing she had been expecting was him to invite her to sit, and she debated for a moment on whether she should leave him or not before sliding into the seat.

On hearing the problem, Max only nodded at first. She had heard about the dome doing that; however, she was still new and no one she knew had left. Both people from her world were still here along with her guardian. “I’m Max, and I’m sorry about your girlfriend. I heard how that can happen and it definitely sucks from what I’ve heard.

"It does suck," he nodded. "But there's no way to change it, or stop it from happening. It's one of the worst things about this place. People come and go on the Dome's whim."

And nobody knew why, or could figure out how to change it.

"We were thinking about moving in together and things were going really well." That made it hurt more than it otherwise would, he thought.

"Want a burger?" He said suddenly. "I ordered the werewolf special and I've definitely got extras."

“No, like most things in life, you’re stuck having no way to stop that type of shit from happening. Whether it’s the dome or something else that causes the loss of people, it sucks,” she said with a small shrug. “I’m still a newbie to this place so I haven’t had to go through it, but I know it’s only a matter of time.” Max wasn’t even sure how she’d handle it. Probably depending on who it was, but right now she couldn’t take losing anyone else even if it was only them being sent back to their world.

But since it sounded like something bad was waiting for her back home, Max was in no rush to go back or lose her friends from back home. “Were you two from the same world?”Max asked, blowing a piece of her red hair out of her face that had fallen into it. “Do you at least have friends who will be there for you? Cause it never hurts to have friends there for you.” Which was hilarious coming from her since she had done everything to push hers away after losing Billy.

“What the hell is the werewolf special?” She asked, turning to look at the menu to read it, then realizing she forgot to answer his question. “Uh yeah, sure. If you don’t mind, that is?” She knew he offered, but she wanted to double check as she turned back around to read it for herself what this special was.

"No, we weren't. That's kind of part of what sucks, because if I go home, she won't be there. My only chance to be with her is here." And that had been taken away from him. Of course there was always the chance she'd come back, but would he still be here when she did? "But yeah, I do have other friends here. Lots of them. My best friend and the girl who's my girlfriend back home are here." And others from his home as well. Including some he didn't like, but he wasn't going to bring that up right now.

"It's like a dozen burgers, two or three large fries and a stupid sized coke. Because werewolves have crazy appetites." He paused. "I'm not one, by the way. A werewolf, I mean."

Max had to admit that part sucked with the two being from different worlds and now she had been sent home. She hated how things that were said by both Billy and step dick came to mind when she had to move, but there was no way in hell she was saying them to this guy. They were rude and not at all helpful. Instead, she ignored it and listened rather than say anything for a moment. “Maybe she’ll return with memories of this place. I heard that does happen sometimes?” Max had no idea how often that happened, but it was something, right? “I’m glad you have other friends who are here. I’m sure this place is a lot easier to deal with when having friends.” Max knew she was lucky in that she ended up with two people who knew her around here rather than being on her own.

That was a whole lot of food, and based on what he said it did make sense with the werewolf and their appetites. “Sure, I’ll take one since that’s a whole lot of food. I haven’t met a werewolf yet, I don’t think,” she said, not completely sure since she was pretty sure they didn’t have a neon sign saying ‘Look I’m a werewolf’ on them. Max knew they were around from other people along with other types of people she didn’t have back home or believed existed.

"It does. Sometimes. Not always, but sometimes." He hoped it would happen for Kate. She'd seemed so happy here too, and they'd been so happy together. Maybe Madison Valley would realize it had made a mistake. Of course, if she came back without memories, well, that would be even worse.

"Well, I'm not a werewolf, but I'm friends with a lot of people who are. Not my place to say who they are, though." They could out themselves when and if they feel like it. "There are a lot of werewolves in my world. Kind of had a crash-course in the supernatural my sophomore year."

“Then I’m going to do that whole positive thinking for once and maybe she’ll come back,” Max wasn’t big on it, but whatever. One time wasn’t going to kill her. Or maybe it would but screw it. She was still trying for once even if nothing really came from it or something did, but it wasn’t the way he was hoping.

Max nodded, and she could understand that since whether it was here or back home, if El was here, she’d never ever point out who she was to anyone. That was her business, and no one else’s. “Supernatural….I guess you can say I know a bit about that,” she paused for a moment before nodding, deciding to go with that on everything from back home. Or was it more fucked up scifi? Not the point! “I have a badass best friend who is like a superhero and is quite powerful,” she smirked because El was a badass and was super glad to have her as a friend. Even if it brought a whole lot of insanity into her life, “and the crap my friends and I have been dealing with is something not many people have so I had my own crash-course when I moved to a new town. Now I get another one with catching up on everything I missed with now being in 2022.” That part still messed with her brain.

"Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do too, although it doesn't seem like this place cares what we want or don't want. It just does what it wants."

Which he resented at the moment.

"Superheroes, huh? That's cool. I don't know any Superheroes per se back home but there are a lot of them here. Have you heard of the Avengers? Most of them are here." Which was hella cool, if you asked him.

"Yeah? When are you from?" He was from like ten years ago, but that was easy enough to make up for. The phones were just a bit spiffier.

“Maybe so and it fucking sucks that this place is like that, but you can still hope it isn’t a complete piece of shit,” Max told him. Most people and things did whatever they wanted, she saw it from more than enough people. “This place can fucking suck with some of the things I heard about.” Though she also knew it had a lot of good, and if her future was as bad as she feared, then this place might be useful for her.

Max knew about them, thanks to the comics she had back home. So what if many didn’t see it as a girl activity, she enjoyed them and loved them more than putting makeup on. The same when it came to her skateboard and people feeling it wasn’t girly enough. “My friend is a badass and one awesome superhero,” she was being careful since if El showed up, it was on her whether she wanted to tell people or not. “Yes, I have some of the comics even if I’m more of a DC person than Marvel. My friend who is here ended up with one of the Avengers as a guardian.” Though Max also had her own badass guardian who had abilities and could save the day.

“I’m from 1985.” It still felt weird saying that and even more weird to know her friends were from further along than she was.

"Ah, there it is. That's why stuff's so different for you. I wasn't even born yet in 1985." Or for the next ten years. "This place must be really wild for you with all the technology and cell phones and computers and everything."

He was really glad that he didn't have to get used to this. Sure, he was from a little bit int he past too, but enough that he knew how to use cellphones and get around in today's society.

"Do you need help? Understanding stuff, I mean."

“Yeah, my friends and I are having to catch up on things that we’ve missed over the years,” Max said with a nod. Not that she minded cause there was so much good stuff they missed out on, but they had the chance to see it now. It was keeping her mind semi-busy. Or it would until school rolled around and then she’d have to worry about that cutting into her time spent on catching up. “We had some of the technology, it’s just much further along now compared to my time. Lucky for us, my friends and I while learning, we pick things up quickly.” Also they had guardians who were from the future or present day, making them able to show two of them and they could show Robin.

“I know my friends and I just found that you guys can now play music from your cell phones. Which is super cool!” And made it easier than having to carry more stuff around just to listen to music.

On his offer, she thought about it for a moment. “I won’t say no to some extra help. We’ve been good so far, but it never hurts to get more of a crash course.” Max wasn’t big on asking for help; however, she figured she’d give the guy something else to focus on for a moment rather than losing his girlfriend.

"I mean, like I said, I'm from like ten years ago but there hasn't been that much change. Not enough that I haven't learned it really quick."

He shook his head a little; he couldn't believe that she was really from the 80's. He wondered if her life was like Stranger Things but didn't ask because that just would have been weird.

"Oh, yeah, you can totally play music. You can hold way more than you would on a cassette or a CD...do you have CDs yet?" He pulled out his own phone. "See, I have like six thousand songs on mine and it's not even close to full."

“Maybe not in technology like it is for my friends and I, but you probably have movies, shows, and music that you had to catch up on from when you’re from until now.” Max had been enjoying all of that cause she didn’t need to wait! Or at least not until she caught up on things, but right now she was working her way through things that wouldn’t be out for a while back home. The horror movies had been her number one focus even after everything back home.

She shook her head at his question on CDs. “What’s a CD?” Max had learned about all the music on the phone, but she figured CDs weren’t a big thing these days cause she didn’t exactly know what they were. “Can I see?” She asked, not wanting to take his phone without the okay even if he was showing her. Max didn’t feel comfortable just taking it, but that was a lot of songs. “How did you get that many on your phone? Did it cost a lot?” Max didn’t have that type of money and she didn’t think it’d be fair to ask Zari for that much money. Maybe he had some secret to get it at a better deal or she’d have to use the internet that she found to be quite fun to use.

"Well, yeah, definitely. There were all of these new Star Wars movies that came out that I had to see..." And he'd loved that.

"A CD is like...um, a little record that's read by a laser instead of by a needle? It plays music. A lot of people thought they sounded too digital and stuff compared to records and cassettes, but they were seriously a huge improvement. You could fit a lot more music on a CD than on a cassette and they weren't as easy to mess up." Although they were still pretty easy, really.

"Um, it costs $9.99 a month for unlimited music. It's called Apple Music."

Another nerd, then again while she gave her friends shit for it, she was a nerd in her own way. She wasn’t interested in D&D like Dustin and the rest of them; however, she loved her comics right after her skateboard. “I’ve been excited to catch up on the different horror movies,” she said with a smirk, loving the long list of ones she still had to do.

Max listened, nodding as he tried to explain CDs, which he did a decent job. “Doesn’t seem like they are that big of a deal now? Or maybe I just haven’t really seen people with them?” It was possible. What she did see and had gotten her own pair was wireless headphones. Those were both awesome and weird, but no more getting caught on things with the wire.

“I’ll have to look at it later and see about going with that,” more like she’d talk to her guardian before doing anything. She liked Zari and wasn’t about to do something she wanted just because for once. No, she’d talk to her guardian first. “But we should eat before the food gets cold,” she said as the burgers came.

"Yeah, we kind of moved from CDs to MP3s to whatever our phones use. Something like MP3s." Stiles wasn't a tech genius but he knew enough simply by living through it as long as he had.

"Sure," he grinned. "Help yourself."

And with that he grabbed a burger and started eating, glad to have been distracted for a while.
