Tess still didn't know what to make of this Madison Valley, all bright and clean and open. And friendly. It didn't reek of people's fear and desperation. She didn't have to work for a madman in order to survive. It was... it should have been refreshing, but the only thing it was? Was terrifying.
She'd made sure to do one thing first and foremost, in the course of her trying to settle in -- she'd gotten her hands on art supplies. She hadn't been able to draw much over the past year, just whenever she could get her hands on a stray scrap of paper and a nub of pencil.
This particular morning, she'd tucked herself away at Starbucks. There weren't too many people yet, so she felt comfortable enough sitting there and drawing. At the moment, she was working on a sketch of Kevin. He was the love of her life, the man who'd gotten her through so much, and it felt like she was starting to forget his face. She didn't want that to happen, knew she would hate herself if it did -- even if Kevin would say it was understandable -- and so she'd been drawing him for the better part of an hour.
She wasn't so lost in her work that she wasn't aware of everything around her, though.
