Zari had been waiting for this day. Eid al-Fitr, the breaking of the fast. Now she could eat at normal hours. She knew that wasn't the most important thing. It was also a time for reflection and prayer. That was all something she took seriously.
Parties were also things she took seriously. She wanted to celebrate her heritage and culture, but she also wanted the community to get a small taste of it as well. The community center was tastefully decorated and a large spread of food was set up on various tables. Most of it was Middle Eastern with some Persian influences. There were plenty of drinks, but non of it alcoholic. This was not the party for that.
Some of the food consisted of three kinds of biriyani, falafel, and kuku shirazi among other dishes. Desserts were lined up as well such as ma'moul, dates, spiced cookies and baklava. She had most of it catered, but she did have the strange urge to make Middle Eastern donuts. She had to wonder if she was being influenced somehow by the other Zari. It was possible, right?
It didn't matter as long as there was enough food for anyone who wanted to attend. She knew it was Fight Club day, so anyone could stop by and load up on carbs before or seek comfort food after. It would be there all day.
After all, this was all about community.
