Gus was excited about the Lyrids meteor shower and hoped that they'd get a good view of it here in town. From all the astronomy sites he followed, tonight was the best chance for visibility at this particular latitude and longitude, so he certainly planned to watch and was excited that others also seemed interested.
Since he'd ended up organizing this impromptu party, he'd gotten in touch with a few people who had planned other events in town and managed to wrangle up a huge stack of blankets and cushions that folks could use to lounge around on if they didn't bring their own. He also arranged for a couple of food trucks to be on hand as well.
