Tyrone made sure to wear a nice pair of jeans and a long sleeved polo shirt that just hinted at the body underneath. He'd run the outfit by Tandy, because he didn't trust his own fashion sense.

He made sure the dishes were done and put away, before his grabbing the cash that Sara had left for him. Ty decided to wait for Lizzie outside as he approached the restaurant. His mind wondered a bit as he'd decided to talk to Sara about registering for school in the fall. He'd be 17 for almost another year.

He saw Lizzie and thought, she looks fantastic.

She smiled even more for the compliment, and was tempted to lean toward him using his whisper as an excuse. Hard to hear, right? She behaved herself, however. "Thanks."

It took a lot to make Lizzie blush so she just preened under the compliment as they went on. "I have one more year to go. I probably could test out, but then I'd have to get a job and ew."

God, Ty wanted dinner to finish, so he could be closer to Lizzie. But he looked down and said, “You’re welcome.”

Ty would get a job once he turned 18, even if he started out part-time. But he knew jobs weren’t for everyone. “I want to get a job eventually, because I don’t want Sara paying for me forever.” He thought about it. “I might feel differently if I still lived with my parents.”

Ok, that was adorable. Lizzie wanted Ty to be comfortable, but it was pretty flattering that he got all shy.

"Well." Lizzie back-peddled. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with a job. And I'm not lazy or anything." Great. Now this was getting awkward. "I just...I mean, wouldn't it be great if none of us needed to work?" She, unfortunately, continued. "What happened with your parents?"

Ty lived his life being shy, unless he'd grown up with the person, or the person was Tandy.

Ty wanted to reassure Lizzie. "It's okay. Jobs aren't the most fun and I know not everyone wants one. My parents raised me to be a go-getter, and do everything right. They were terrified of their losing me like we lost my older brother." Ty didn't mention about Tandy's breaking into his school to bring him textbooks, so he could keep up.

He looked a bit flustered, but it was his past. "I. um." And then the words flooded out of him like a dam breaking, "I was trying to track down the cop who killed my brother and the cop had friends in high places my parents are fine, but I got framed for a different cop's death, a cop who was a friend and I couldn't be home anymore and Tandy and I were on our way out of New Orleans when I was sent here." And somehow he still managed to avoid his talking about being part of the Divine Pairing with Tandy.

Lizzie was, frankly, stunned. She'd been pretty sheltered growing up, but she knew that things like this happened, and with more frequency than was good.

"Oh my god," she muttered then reached out to put her hand over his arm. "I don't even know what to say. 'I'm sorry' seems lame."

Ty didn't respond at first, but he did place his other hand on Lizzie's. He was a Black teenaged guy in a world that said he deserved to be shot for his simply existing.

He said, "There's no good way to respond to that. It fucking sucked. At least my name's been cleared and the cop who killed my brother was found guilty." And dead, but Ty didn't add that part.

And Ty felt real proud of himself because he managed to keep Lizzie's fears away from his mind. Which was good, because he liked touching her.

"Small consolation, I bet." None of that would bring his brother back. Lizzie would have gone literally berserk if anything happened to Josie.

"I'm glad you're here, though." She didn't take her hand back. Instead, she gave his arm a squeeze while she offered him a gentle smile.

"At least it was something after his murder nine years ago. It's the night I met Tandy." Kind of. Not like they'd been friends for the first eight years after.

"I'm glad I'm here too. And glad to be on this date with you." Well, that sounded too smooth to be from Ty's mouth and yet. Ty's other hand squeezed her hand.

"Oh! I think the pizza is here." Thank God. Ty's stomach wanted something more substantial than just salad.

Lizzie's smile grew. She was glad to be here with him, too. The touch of his hand was comforting. Calming. It was something only Josie had been able to give her before.

She reluctantly took her hand back as the waitress set their pizza on the table. Lizzie noticed she had a knowing but nice smile on her face as she told them to enjoy. Lizzie pulled a slice onto her plate then tucked in.

She gave idle chit chat while they ate, growing more and more comfortable with Ty. By the time they were done eating she was giggling and having a great time. So much so that when they left, she automatically took his hand.

"Want to grab some dessert?"

Ty had a great time chatting and being in Lizzie’s company. The pizza wasn’t half bad either.

When Lizzie took his hand, Ty’s heart jumped. The last hand he held was Tandy’s. This felt as comfortable, but with the added benefit of his feeling attracted to Lizzie. Tandy was his other half, literally, but there would never be romance between them.

“Sure! Where would you like to get dessert?”

"Hinkles' has awesome milkshakes," Lizzie said. She had a plan. It was kind of cheesy, but it sounded like the best thing right now. "They're huge. We could share one."

Ty responded, “I love that idea. What flavour should we get?” He gently swung his and Lizzie’s entwined hands.

“Do they come with whipped cream?” He kind of wanted to kiss Lizzie’s hand, but Ty had time.

"I like the chocolate peanut butter one," she said. Every other swing she'd step closer so their shoulders bumped. "Taste likes a Reeses' peanut butter cup, and they garnish it with mini ones on the whipped cream." Answering the whipped cream question.

"Okay, that flavour sounds so yummy," Ty said. He noticed their shoulders bumping. This time when their hands swung, this time Ty swung them high enough that he could kiss Lizzie's hand.

"So, between the two of us, do we have a decent chance of finishing the shake?" Ty joked, but he was a bit full after pizza and salad. Not that he couldn't find room for a milkshake.

Ty earned himself a sweet smile and a squeeze of her hand for the kiss. He was nice. Really nice. Lizzie wasn't sure how she'd caught his eye.

Ty had been drawn to Lizzie, and not just because she was gorgeous. He'd really enjoyed their conversation and her energy. And her smile.

Once they got to Hinkles and ordered the milkshake, Ty asked Lizzie, "Are we going to share this next to each other or across?"

"It will be easier," she said as she got up from her side so she could slide in next to him, "if I'm next to you. Less chance of one of us wearing it, too."

Was she crowding him? Maybe a little. But she was pretty certain he wasn't going to complain.

"I'm game for us not wearing milkshakes," Ty agreed. Yes she was crowding him, but he wasn't going to complain. At all.

He contemplated putting his arm around her. He finally made the decision about a minute later, and put an arm around her shoulders.

"Damn. This shake is good!" He saw another one of these in his future.

When he put his arm around her Lizzie took that as an invitation to lean into him as they shared the shake.

"Told you," she said with a chuckle. "I swear they put something in their shakes." She looked into his face as she smiled.

Ty enjoyed his feeling her weight against him. It felt nice, but also his stomach flip-flopped.

"I'm pretty sure something this addictive should come with a label."

He returned the smile and laughed. "I think you got a little whipped cream on your nose." Ty wiped it with his thumb. He wanted to kiss her, but he was too shy to do that in a restaurant. He settled for butterfly kiss on her cheek.

For herself, Lizzie could feel how solid Ty was and something inside stood up and took notice. She could easily imagine how it would feel to be held by him...among other things.

She wrinkled her nose as she grinned. It was easy to get whipped cream on your face with one of these shakes, but her eyes were solidly on Ty's.

A moment passed, then she decided to take a page out of his book. "Would it be alright if I kissed you right now?" He had asked her permission at the ball. This was only fair.

Ty refused to imagine anything beyond what he and Lizzie were currently doing. It was hard enough to focus just from his being this close to her.

Ty had definitely not been asked before. His eyes lit up and he said, "Yeah. I'd like that a lot."

Ok that was a huge ego boost to see him light up like that just over a kiss. Lizzie grinned as she turned more toward him then leaned in to touch her lips to his.

It was just a light kiss. She could tell he was pretty shy so she didn't want to push too hard.

Ty returned the kiss, as light as hers and as it ended, told her, "I'd love to do that again. Just so ya know."

This time his arm was a little tighter around her shoulders. He looked at the milkshake, impressed they'd managed to finish half.

"I don't think I can fit anything else in my stomach," is what Ty said. He might actually explode.

Being pulled into him felt good, and not in a sexy kinda way. Lizzie felt that Ty could protect her, keep her safe. Not that she was a wuss who couldn't take care of herself, but sometimes it was nice to let someone else take over.

She smiled up at him after the kiss ended. "You can do that whenever you want. Just so you know." Blanket permission given. No more asking.

She chuckled as she looked at the shake. "If I tried I'd have to do like a thousand sit-ups to work it off."

Ty thought that Lizzie felt nice against him. If anyone asked him, the women in his life didn't generally require his saving. If anything else, it was equal between him and Tandy when it came to their saving each other. And without Evi? They wouldn't have survived.

So, a girl who both needed to feel safe, but could take care of herself? That sounded nice to Ty.

When she gave him blanket permission to kiss her, Ty grinned. "Good. Because I like kissing you."

"This is new motivation for me to reach out to Mia about my training at her place. I don't have basketball to keep me in shape." Not that he was in bad shape, but he wanted to keep the shape he currently had.

She wasn't making any moves to give Ty back his personal space. As a matter of fact, she rested her head against his shoulder as she looked at the shake.

"Who's Mia?"

Ty's head rested on top of Lizzie's lightly though, so he wouldn't hurt her.

"I met Mia at fight night last month. Her opponent was a giant dick and we ended up talking for a bit after I said as much. Said I could train at her place; has a whole setup. My guardian owns the bar where she works." He grimaced. "Something about her being a werewolf's plaything? I don't remember but it definitely involved a werewolf named Nick."

Honestly, in a fight shit was said, but he wasn't used to it in a setting where people could choose to fight.

"Who was her opponent?" Lizzie lifted her head to look at Ty. She had been involved in McCall's pack while she dated Stiles. Once they broke up, Lizzie had been withdrawing little by little, even though Scott said she was still welcome.

There was a lot of drama between the packs in town, so if someone was starting shit she'd take it to Scott.

"Jack something? I don't remember his last name." And, Ty hadn't gotten a chance to get near him and see his fears. Dude deserved that shit.

"I'm not super familiar with any of the werewolves in town, besides Logan. I've met him. He seems nice." Ty didn't add cute, because that would be rude while he was on a date with someone else.

Since Lizzie was looking at him, he took the opportunity to kiss her again.

There were a lot of Jacks in this town. Which one it was could mean many different things. Lizzie decided she'd look into it. Ask around. If someone's ass needed kicked...well. It wouldn't be the first time she'd done that.

The kiss interrupted her thoughts and she let herself fall into it. It was a great kiss! Even better for being wrapped up in his arms like she was. When it broke she grinned up at him. "Oh yeah. Anytime you want to do that..."

"I should probably get you home, but I'd be happy to kiss you again on the way. More than once." This time Ty's voice held a note of bravery.

He took the opportunity to wrap her up in his arms again and kiss, this one as nice as the last.
