Tyrone made sure to wear a nice pair of jeans and a long sleeved polo shirt that just hinted at the body underneath. He'd run the outfit by Tandy, because he didn't trust his own fashion sense.

He made sure the dishes were done and put away, before his grabbing the cash that Sara had left for him. Ty decided to wait for Lizzie outside as he approached the restaurant. His mind wondered a bit as he'd decided to talk to Sara about registering for school in the fall. He'd be 17 for almost another year.

He saw Lizzie and thought, she looks fantastic.

Lizzie had thought about canceling her date with Ty. Not because of anything to do with him. Brooke had left, her best friend. Lizzie had had a meltdown. She'd been left with that lovely hangover she always had after an episode. But she hadn't canceled, and not because Brooke had shown back up (somewhat less than whole), but because she felt that it would probably be good for her. Besides, Ty didn't deserve her ditching on him.

Depressed or not, Lizzie never went anywhere without looking her best. Her hair was in a perfect mermaid braid that hung over her shoulder. It was still a little chilly in the evenings so she wore a tight, turtleneck sweater in off white, a miniskirt in black watch plaid, black tights and a pair of maryjanes.

She smiled when she saw Ty. It was a little less than he had seen before, but it was still there and genuine. He looked great. "Hi," she said as she reached him. "Nice shirt." VERY nice.

"You look great. I love the hair." Yes, Ty noticed these things, thanks in part to his mom and partly from being around Tandy.

"Ready to go eat some pizza?" Ty could pick up something was wrong, but wasn't sure he should ask. And while he wanted to hug Lizzie, he didn't want to see her fears. That didn't seem a good way to start a date.

Tandy was right. He needed to work on control more.

He finally asked, "Is everything okay?" At least this way, she'd know he noticed and was a willing listener if needed.

"Thanks!" It wasn't easy to do. Not on yourself anyway. Lizzie had learned how because she didn't trust anyone who wasn't Josie doing her hair.

"Definitely," she said as if she were starving. The truth was, she'd had a little something before she left so she wouldn't seem like a pig or something.

"Hmm?" Damn. She sighed. Normally, she'd lie and say she was fine, but she didn't want to do that with Ty. Trust. Eek. "Oh. Brooke had gone home. She's like my best friend here so I kinda lost it. But now she's back. Only she's in the clinic and unconscious."

“Did you do that all by yourself?” Ty’s voice showed how impressed he was.

“Good. I’m hungry.” How much a girl ate didn’t matter to Ty. He had known a few girls with eating disorders back at home, and he always felt bad for them. He couldn’t put food away like Logan, but he liked to eat and wanted those around him to feel comfortable eating.

Jesus. “That sounds awful. I’m here if you wanna talk or if you want a distraction.” This time he squeezed her shoulder, bracing himself against his seeing her fears. At least this time he blocked it out entirely. At least practicing was helping with the control.

"I did," she said as she beamed proudly. "It takes forever but it's totally worth it. Keeps it out of my face."

Lizzie could have easily had an eating disorder. Her bipolar disorder could have pushed her in that direction. Instead, it was her emotional extremes, her episodes that she was victim to.

Lizzie looked down, but didn't pull away from the comforting hand on her shoulder. "Thanks," she said before she picked her face back up to give Ty a smile. "Pizza and a nice night will be a great distraction. Give me something to hope for."

Ty let out a whistle, "Damn. You got skill." He reached down and squeezed Lizzie's hand, before his responding with "I promise to try and provide a distraction." Ty really would, even if he was super shy in dating type situations.

He opened the door to the restaurant for Lizzie, before his following her into the restaurant. Once they were seated with menus, he asked, "So what kind of toppings do you like on pizza?" He wasn't picky, really, as long as the pizza had tomato sauce. He offered her a smile, a touch guarded, because he didn't have a great track record with girls and he felt nervous.

"Thanks!" Lizzie smirked as she lifted her chin. It was nice to have her skills appreciated. Normally people saw them as shallow and useless.

So far, Ty was doing a good job of distracting her. If he was nervous she didn't notice. In truth, Lizzie was beginning to feel comfortable around him.

"Pretty much anything except pineapple and fish." She scanned over the menu then leaned over to point at something on the one Ty was looking at. "And breadsticks. The marinara sauce here is fantastic."

Ty knew all about distractions to deal with feelings of grief. He'd needed them after his watching his older bro get shot by a cop. A cop who was now dead and known as the real killer.

"Sure. Any skill should be complimented." He meant it.

"How about a pepperoni and mushroom pizza? Large? I'll get an order of breadsticks and," Ty stopped and looked embarrassed, "a salad, because I like salad." No Caesar salad, though, not if he wanted to kiss Lizzie again.

The server came over and took their order, complete with a garden salad with raspberry balsamic dressing, which Ty would never dare order in front of pretty much anyone back home. Except his parents and probably Tandy?

"Hey," she said with a smile. "Nothing wrong with liking salad. You do you. No judgment here." Because she'd been judged for things herself, and had been guilty of the same. Lizzie was trying to do better.

"Did you tell Tandy who you were going out with tonight?" There were some things Lizzie wouldn't be able to ditch easily. One was being paranoid about what people think of her.

Ty smiled, and it reached his eyes. He really liked Lizzie. "Thanks. The guys back home would never have let me lived down ordering a salad, especially not on a date."

"I tell Tandy pretty much everything." It was hard not to tell her everything, since they were connected. And if she wanted to, she could touch him and see his hopes. Tandy was still the only human who knew Ty still had a voice recording of his brother. "But yes, I did tell her I was going on a date with you. I think she was more surprised that I had a date. I'm not exactly known for my being smooth with the ladies," he said with a shrug and smile. Like, at all.

Lizzie chuckled then gave him a smirk that was definitely more than friendly. "I don't know. You were pretty smooth on the dancefloor."

She grinned, but there was a big part of her that worried about what Tandy might have said. They were friends, so far as Lizzie thought, but she'd had friends before who told the truth about Lizzie. "So what did she say?"

Ty grinned back. If he knew how to be flirty, he would add that to his expression. "Thanks. I figured if you said no, I'd be no worse off than I already was. So that helped."

"She just said 'nice' and asked where I was taking you." And that he definitely needed to work on more power control, but that didn't need to be said.

He gave her a shy grin and was magically saved by the salad and breadsticks arrival. "So, I guess I should try one of these magical breadsticks?"

Nice. That could mean so many things. It could mean That's all the good things I could say about her, or it could be that was all Ty wanted to share of what was said between him and his best friend. Lizzie hated not knowing which it was, but not enough to push for more information.

"Yes, you should." Lizzie was glad for the change of subject. "You don't want to get too much marinara sauce on them, but not too little, either. Here." She picked up a breadstick, dipped it just so in the sauce then held it out for Ty to take a bite. "Try that."

If she'd asked, he would have told Lizzie that 'nice' meant, 'good on you for getting a date'. Tandy was the one back home who encouraged Ty to 'lock that down' with Evi. Honestly, he sometimes missed Evi, but not in an ex-girlfriend manner. He just missed their friendship and another person their age knowing all about him and Tandy.

Ty used the excuse to brush Lizzie's fingers with his, as he leaned over to take a bite. His eyes lit up. "Okay. Those are bomb." And definitely put his salad to shame, but ah well. He even managed to not see any of Lizzie's fears, which made him happy.

Madison Valley might lack in anything resembling Cajun food, but apparently they did Italian rather well.

The touch to her fingers made Lizzie smile. It was just a little thing, and she'd had guys do a lot more than that, but that was what made it stand out. That and his reaction to the breadsticks made her smile grow.

"Told you," she said, dipped the breadstick into the sauce again then took her own bite. Lizzie never did understand the disgust about double dipping between people who have already exchanged spit.

"I never asked, but are you still in school?"

Ty whispered, "You really have a great smile." It lit her up, and made Ty want to be closer to her.

He cared about about double dipping, but not enough to say anything. Besides, hopefully they'd be kissing again later tonight.

Augh school. "I didn't enroll when I got here, because back home I wasn't in school. I think I'm going to get my GED and take some classes. Or maybe try and enroll in the fall."

She smiled even more for the compliment, and was tempted to lean toward him using his whisper as an excuse. Hard to hear, right? She behaved herself, however. "Thanks."

It took a lot to make Lizzie blush so she just preened under the compliment as they went on. "I have one more year to go. I probably could test out, but then I'd have to get a job and ew."

God, Ty wanted dinner to finish, so he could be closer to Lizzie. But he looked down and said, “You’re welcome.”

Ty would get a job once he turned 18, even if he started out part-time. But he knew jobs weren’t for everyone. “I want to get a job eventually, because I don’t want Sara paying for me forever.” He thought about it. “I might feel differently if I still lived with my parents.”

Ok, that was adorable. Lizzie wanted Ty to be comfortable, but it was pretty flattering that he got all shy.

"Well." Lizzie back-peddled. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with a job. And I'm not lazy or anything." Great. Now this was getting awkward. "I just...I mean, wouldn't it be great if none of us needed to work?" She, unfortunately, continued. "What happened with your parents?"

Ty lived his life being shy, unless he'd grown up with the person, or the person was Tandy.

Ty wanted to reassure Lizzie. "It's okay. Jobs aren't the most fun and I know not everyone wants one. My parents raised me to be a go-getter, and do everything right. They were terrified of their losing me like we lost my older brother." Ty didn't mention about Tandy's breaking into his school to bring him textbooks, so he could keep up.

He looked a bit flustered, but it was his past. "I. um." And then the words flooded out of him like a dam breaking, "I was trying to track down the cop who killed my brother and the cop had friends in high places my parents are fine, but I got framed for a different cop's death, a cop who was a friend and I couldn't be home anymore and Tandy and I were on our way out of New Orleans when I was sent here." And somehow he still managed to avoid his talking about being part of the Divine Pairing with Tandy.

Lizzie was, frankly, stunned. She'd been pretty sheltered growing up, but she knew that things like this happened, and with more frequency than was good.

"Oh my god," she muttered then reached out to put her hand over his arm. "I don't even know what to say. 'I'm sorry' seems lame."

Ty didn't respond at first, but he did place his other hand on Lizzie's. He was a Black teenaged guy in a world that said he deserved to be shot for his simply existing.

He said, "There's no good way to respond to that. It fucking sucked. At least my name's been cleared and the cop who killed my brother was found guilty." And dead, but Ty didn't add that part.

And Ty felt real proud of himself because he managed to keep Lizzie's fears away from his mind. Which was good, because he liked touching her.

"At least it was something after his murder nine years ago. It's the night I met Tandy." Kind of. Not like they'd been friends for the first eight years after.

"I'm glad I'm here too. And glad to be on this date with you." Well, that sounded too smooth to be from Ty's mouth and yet. Ty's other hand squeezed her hand.

"Oh! I think the pizza is here." Thank God. Ty's stomach wanted something more substantial than just salad.

Lizzie's smile grew. She was glad to be here with him, too. The touch of his hand was comforting. Calming. It was something only Josie had been able to give her before.

She reluctantly took her hand back as the waitress set their pizza on the table. Lizzie noticed she had a knowing but nice smile on her face as she told them to enjoy. Lizzie pulled a slice onto her plate then tucked in.

She gave idle chit chat while they ate, growing more and more comfortable with Ty. By the time they were done eating she was giggling and having a great time. So much so that when they left, she automatically took his hand.

"Want to grab some dessert?"

Ty had a great time chatting and being in Lizzie’s company. The pizza wasn’t half bad either.

When Lizzie took his hand, Ty’s heart jumped. The last hand he held was Tandy’s. This felt as comfortable, but with the added benefit of his feeling attracted to Lizzie. Tandy was his other half, literally, but there would never be romance between them.

“Sure! Where would you like to get dessert?”

Ty had been drawn to Lizzie, and not just because she was gorgeous. He'd really enjoyed their conversation and her energy. And her smile.

Once they got to Hinkles and ordered the milkshake, Ty asked Lizzie, "Are we going to share this next to each other or across?"

He contemplated putting his arm around her. He finally made the decision about a minute later, and put an arm around her shoulders.

"Damn. This shake is good!" He saw another one of these in his future.

Ty enjoyed his feeling her weight against him. It felt nice, but also his stomach flip-flopped.

"I'm pretty sure something this addictive should come with a label."

He returned the smile and laughed. "I think you got a little whipped cream on your nose." Ty wiped it with his thumb. He wanted to kiss her, but he was too shy to do that in a restaurant. He settled for butterfly kiss on her cheek.

For herself, Lizzie could feel how solid Ty was and something inside stood up and took notice. She could easily imagine how it would feel to be held by him...among other things.

She wrinkled her nose as she grinned. It was easy to get whipped cream on your face with one of these shakes, but her eyes were solidly on Ty's.

A moment passed, then she decided to take a page out of his book. "Would it be alright if I kissed you right now?" He had asked her permission at the ball. This was only fair.

Ty refused to imagine anything beyond what he and Lizzie were currently doing. It was hard enough to focus just from his being this close to her.

Ty had definitely not been asked before. His eyes lit up and he said, "Yeah. I'd like that a lot."

Ok that was a huge ego boost to see him light up like that just over a kiss. Lizzie grinned as she turned more toward him then leaned in to touch her lips to his.

It was just a light kiss. She could tell he was pretty shy so she didn't want to push too hard.

Ty returned the kiss, as light as hers and as it ended, told her, "I'd love to do that again. Just so ya know."

This time his arm was a little tighter around her shoulders. He looked at the milkshake, impressed they'd managed to finish half.

"I don't think I can fit anything else in my stomach," is what Ty said. He might actually explode.

Being pulled into him felt good, and not in a sexy kinda way. Lizzie felt that Ty could protect her, keep her safe. Not that she was a wuss who couldn't take care of herself, but sometimes it was nice to let someone else take over.

She smiled up at him after the kiss ended. "You can do that whenever you want. Just so you know." Blanket permission given. No more asking.

She chuckled as she looked at the shake. "If I tried I'd have to do like a thousand sit-ups to work it off."

Ty thought that Lizzie felt nice against him. If anyone asked him, the women in his life didn't generally require his saving. If anything else, it was equal between him and Tandy when it came to their saving each other. And without Evi? They wouldn't have survived.

So, a girl who both needed to feel safe, but could take care of herself? That sounded nice to Ty.

When she gave him blanket permission to kiss her, Ty grinned. "Good. Because I like kissing you."

"This is new motivation for me to reach out to Mia about my training at her place. I don't have basketball to keep me in shape." Not that he was in bad shape, but he wanted to keep the shape he currently had.

She wasn't making any moves to give Ty back his personal space. As a matter of fact, she rested her head against his shoulder as she looked at the shake.

Ty's head rested on top of Lizzie's lightly though, so he wouldn't hurt her.

"I met Mia at fight night last month. Her opponent was a giant dick and we ended up talking for a bit after I said as much. Said I could train at her place; has a whole setup. My guardian owns the bar where she works." He grimaced. "Something about her being a werewolf's plaything? I don't remember but it definitely involved a werewolf named Nick."

Honestly, in a fight shit was said, but he wasn't used to it in a setting where people could choose to fight.

"Who was her opponent?" Lizzie lifted her head to look at Ty. She had been involved in McCall's pack while she dated Stiles. Once they broke up, Lizzie had been withdrawing little by little, even though Scott said she was still welcome.

There was a lot of drama between the packs in town, so if someone was starting shit she'd take it to Scott.

Since Lizzie was looking at him, he took the opportunity to kiss her again.

There were a lot of Jacks in this town. Which one it was could mean many different things. Lizzie decided she'd look into it. Ask around. If someone's ass needed kicked...well. It wouldn't be the first time she'd done that.

The kiss interrupted her thoughts and she let herself fall into it. It was a great kiss! Even better for being wrapped up in his arms like she was. When it broke she grinned up at him. "Oh yeah. Anytime you want to do that..."
