WHO: Fela and OPEN!
WHAT: Going to the tavern to get a drink...not quite what she expects
WHEN: Monday night
WHERE: The Electric Lady
WARNINGS: TBD
STATUS: Open/Ongoing

Fela had been here a few days now, and to be honest, she was lonely. Sure, Elodin and Kvothe were here, but Kvothe was busy doing...whatever it was Kvothe did for fun, and Elodin...well...she was fond of his classes in a disturbing sort of way, but it wasn't like she was going to socialize with him. If he even socialized.

So evening found her sitting in her room, reading the paper of this strange little town for some idea of what was going on around her. She'd read the same paragraph a dozen times before she realized she wasn't getting anywhere and folded it back onto the table. She needed to relax. Take a break. Nothing was going to happen in the next few minutes, and she wasn't going to discover a way out of here with her head starting to pound like it was.

A drink, some music...surely taverns were universal, and would do her a great deal of good. So she grabbed her phone and searched for one, coming up with one called The Electric Lady that was not far away from where she was. She smiled, it sounded like a good sort of place, and friendly to women. She stuck her debit card in her pocket and made her way out onto the street.

Approaching the place, though, something was wrong. The noise that was pounding out of there she could feel on the sidewalk from yards away - was that the music? She grimaced a little - it was surely different than what she knew back home, but what choice did she have? At least she'd have a story to take back home to Wil and Simmon. Steeling her ears against the onslaught, she stepped inside, only to be stopped at the door.

"ID?"

She stared at him, blankly.

"Do you have your ID?"

Her what?

She looked around for someone to explain to her what was going on, but other people just pushed by her, seemingly annoyed that she was in the way.

"Uh...I'm...here with a friend..."

Desperately, her eyes scanned the room, searching in the vain hope that there'd be someone here she knew.

This wasn't really Justine's scene. The pounding music and crowded spaces were enough to send her teetering over the edge of madness any day of the week. But since she'd solved the feeding problem with Thomas, and a local named David, she had since floated through life on a cloud of euphoria. This was more Thomas' deal, but Justine had accompanied him and while he entertained a group of women somewhere Justine had wandered away. That was the worst thing about being under his influence, she lost awareness of her surroundings and the inherent dangers present within them.

Half out of her mind and soaring on waves of intimate pleasure still sapping at her, Justine passed through the crowds toward fresh air and paused midway, voices breaking through the cacophany of sound to touch her half deaf ears. She blinked herself into semi-awareness and turned her head, spying the bouncer and the woman. Maybe she'd seen her on the network. Maybe she'd spoken to her last week. Maybe she'd kissed her a year ago. Justine wasn't sure, but she turned in that direction and floated toward the two.

"She's with me," Justine said, naturally sliding that sexual allure into her voice. Many thought very little of her, for using her body in ways that were natural to her, but the sex appeal was apparent in all that she did. She couldn't help it, and one day she'd be old and it wouldn't matter, but until then.. She smiled at the girl and pressed close, but not close enough to imply that they were intimate. It wasn't a well thought of thing in most midwestern towns, and Justine had a work reputation to uphold. "I brought her with me."

The bouncer looked at the two of them while sexy thoughts went through his head. But what the hell, it wasn't like the state could get them in trouble anyway right now. He shrugged and let her go ahead. He had other work to do tonight.

Fela smiled at her, trying to place if she'd seen her on the network before. She didn't think she had...maybe she was even a native here?

"Hey, thanks," she said with a small smile, taking a step back. "What was it he wanted, anyway? My ID? What does that even mean? I mean, I know you have to pay sometimes to get in, but that didn't seem like what he was looking for."

Justine smiled at the man and pulled the girl gently into the establishment before he could change his mind. If he kicked them out in five minutes so be it, but she'd need to find Thomas first. "Hm?" she looked at the girl. "Oh, your ID," and fumbled into her blouse top to remove the little card that had been issued by the city. She showed it to her.

"They have an age limit that most places adhere to, but this is the least respectable bar to be in on any given night." Justine laughed softly, a silvery sort of sound that hinted at how far gone she was in the moment because it wasn't really grounded on anything.

Tucking her ID back into her blouse, she led the girl over to the bar and wormed her way in to a stool by virtue of flirting. She knew what men wanted from her, and while she only ever gave it to Thomas it didn't really stop her from flirting.

Merciful Tehlu, this girl was on something. What kind of substance it was she was, she had no idea, but Fela was pretty darn sure she didn't want to be in that kind of shape. Ever.

And the way the guys looked at her...there was nothing wrong with it, of course, but it made her blush something fierce. She wasn't that comfortable with her sexuality yet. By far. Oh, she knew that there wasn't necessarily anything wrong with it...but it just wasn't her. To be that open. She didn't want to judge the girl...but...wow.

She ordered several things before she ordered generally enough that they had what she wanted, and held it with both hands, staring down into the glass.

She'd never been in a place like this before, and it definitely wasn't what she expected. Was it also a brothel?

"Uh, okay, thanks. This place is..." She forced a smile. "It's really nice."

She watched the girl pleasantly, having ordered a water for herself, since drinking wasn't exactly a top priority right now. "It's not," she said lightly. "But it's a good place to pass time." The girl looked uncomfortable and out of place, which made her assume the girl was new and a refugee or else not accustomed to the club scene at all, and that struck a cord with Justine who wanted nothing more than to protect the women of the world. "Don't leave your glass unattended," she said. "Sometimes someone will drop something into it and it'll be really bad," she gave her a look.

"Oh," and sobered briefly, looking confused. "I didn't introduce myself. My name's Justine.. I'm a refugee here.. from Chicago 2009. It sounds like a year I graduated high school but I didn't." She smiled prettily and pulled her glass of water closer.

"I thought...I guess I thought it would be more like one of the taverns back home. With nice music and friendly company, and you know, that sort of thing. Like where I went when I was at University. But this music, well..." She leaned forward a bit conspiratorily. "It's awful."

She paled a bit at the suggestion that someone might drug her drink.

"You meant to...to take advantage of me?" She pulled her drink closer, looking horrified, her eyes flickering to the door. "People actually do that here?" Of course, she saw no reason why they wouldn't do the same thing back home, the drugs were probably just harder to come by. It wasn't like men were saints back home.

"I'm Fela. I'm...I have no idea what year it would be to you. Do you know Kvothe and Elodin? I'm from their world. Did you...come here by yourself?"

Justine smiled at the statement. The music was awful, but she'd drowned out the noise earlier in the night and it was exceedingly difficult to focus on anything in particular. She was still lost in the throes of Thomas' passion and reeling physically and mentally from it, still wanton and waiting for him to find her when he was hungry enough to feed. That was part of the addiction, and even years away from it couldn't kill the new burst of desire inside her.

"Of course, just be diligent and smart about it to keep yourself safe. It's best not to come alone either, if you can help it. People have generally good intentions, but the ones who don't make themselves known first." Justine shrugged lightly.

"Kvothe, yes, he speaks to me sometimes. He's a charming young man," and a child by rights but she wouldn't say that to Fela or to Kvothe himself. "No, not by myself, Thomas is with me." She glanced around the bar and found the gaggle of women that had formed around Thomas, smiling faintly at him from a distance. It was hard to ignore the grumpy expressions of other men because Thomas was taking all the women's attention. "And we have some other people from home."

"Well, I'm not here to pick up men...I just...wanted to get out, you know? I've been holed up in my room since I got here, it seems. And I don't really know who I'd ask to come with me! Kvothe...well, he's so busy, and Elodin's a little weird, and my professor, and I don't know who else I'd ask. My..." She blushed a little. "Well, I do have someone back home, I mean, but he's not here. And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like this either."

Fela's eyes followed her to Thomas, and she couldn't help but redden a little as she felt herself react to him.

"Oh, wow, you're with him? He's cute. Really cute."

"They wouldn't let him in, but he's a smooth talker and could probably get by the bouncer if he tried enough," she commented. The smile on her face deepened when Fela mentioned someone from home. "Of course, it must be particularly jarring.. there are nicer places than this though, without the loud music. What are the taverns like back home? Chicago's scene is a lot louder than this place, even, and a lot more vulgar. This is a thousand times more sedate than anything we usually haunt."

Her eyes traveled back to Thomas, then flicked to Fela, checking her for the reactions that were natural to Thomas' presence. The flushed skin, the hardened nipples, the look.. She recognized it all. Justine smiled sadly. "Yes, it's complicated. I'd introduce you but you wouldn't enjoy the feeling." She leaned closer when she spoke. "So don't worry about him overmuch, he's hardly paying attention to us anyway. There's a woman to his left that's trying to keep his attention on her, she's been watching him all night."

"Back home, well, they're not exactly...nicer, or quieter. They're taverns. Lit by sympathy lamps and candles more than this sort of thing, loud music - but not like this. Lots of drinking. They can get rough, too. It's not like we don't have bar fights. But they're not quite as...sexual, I don't think. I mean, it isn't full of hot, throbbing...sex."

She pulled her eyes away from Thomas and back to her drink, before she embarrassed herself more. What was she thinking?

"Doesn't that bother you? Having...the man you love surrounded by other women?"

"I didn't say I loved him," she said quietly. She did, of course, she loved Thomas with all her strength but it wasn't a topic up for discussion. Their lives had very little privacy in the world of the Raiths and to them, Justine wasn't anything but his whore. She offered herself to him for his protection and that was the way it remained. Even here, if they wanted to believe it, Justine wouldn't go out of her way to make it seem otherwise.

She smiled at Fela. "He's a grown man and capable of doing what he wants, whenever he wants, and how often. I have no say and I wouldn't think to tell him otherwise. Unless I thought he was being stupid." Justine laughed pleasantly.

"What you're feeling is natural," she informed her, "he's not doing it on purpose but you can't help but think sexual things when he's nearby."

Fela looked up at her, feeling a bit guilty. She hadn't meant to be so obvious, but it was true - she was thinking sexual things. It had only been over the past few months that she'd even experienced what sex was, so the feeling was a little overwhelming and more than a little embarrassing.

"I'd never - I mean, I wouldn't - " She stopped, feeling that she was just going to dig herself into a deeper hole if she kept talking. Anyway, she said she didn't love him, so maybe she didn't have to apologize? What did she know about love anyway? It certainly wasn't something she was particularly good at.

"Why is that?"

Justine touched Fela's arm lightly. It wasn't meant to be invasive or make her uncomfortable, but physical contact always soothed Justine herself and so.. she tended toward assuming it worked for other people too. "It's okay," she said tenderly, offering that slightly dazed smile she kept wearing.

"I've known him a long time, I recognize signs of attraction in everyone." Then she let go of Fela's arm and leaned on the counter, propping her elbow on the surface and resting her head on her palm. "It's normal and you shouldn't feel guilty for it. Though it's overwhelming at first.." and always after. But she didn't say anything. Justine couldn't resist looking at Thomas again, but she didn't linger over him for long before looking at Fela.

"His secrets aren't mine to tell, suffice to know he's not completely human," she spoke lowly and leaned close to Fela so her voice wouldn't carry. The music was loud and troublesome, and probably stopped their conversation from being overheard entirely. But living a life of secrets, privacy and White Court politics meant Justine was always cautious.

"Not completely human?" she looked back at him, catching a glimpse of the man that sent her blushing again, and sent her temperature up. He looked human, but maybe too perfectly so. They just didn't usually make men that looked that good.

"But he...does he hurt you? If he's hurting you I'll help..."

She widened her eyes at Justine, letting her know that she was serious, that she'd help her if she could.

It bothered Justine that other men and women automatically assumed Thomas hurt people. Sure, what the Raiths did was wrong down at its very core, but Justine had walked into it with her eyes open. She knew what Thomas was, and at first it didn't matter. She'd prostituted herself to him--one man--instead of many in the back alleys of Chicago's streets. Which was a thousand times better than Bianca's then offer.

"No," she said sternly, though not unkindly. She wasn't capable of being mean, and maintained that pleasantly distant expression. "He's not hurting me, he never would. And he's no danger to you either." Not now that Thomas was feeding on Justine again. She'd maintain that by staying intimate with David on occasion, and Thomas would get his sustenance from her.

"Well, that's...that's good. I didn't mean any offense, you know. I was just...worried. You seem nice, that's all. I don't know him at all, obviously, but when you're that good looking..." She exhaled deeply, looking away from Thomas again.

"So...you've been here a while then. You know what's going on around here? How we got here?"

She took a sip of her drink. She'd come here to get away from the problems of this place, she'd never imagined she'd be lucky enough to find the answers right in front of her.
