He already more than believed in the Madison Valley weirdness, between what he'd witnessed and what he'd seen for himself, but if there was one thing that got to Spender? It was this. So many people turned younger, even into little children. It gave him the strangest, faintest reminder of a life he'd lost out on -- and that he'd always wanted to have. He'd given up on it pretty quickly, though, after what his father had done to him.
It wasn't even that he didn't want kids, it was that he knew far better than to pass his genes on at this point. Who knew what'd been done to them in the name of his father's twisted experiments?
No, it wasn't that he didn't want kids, it was that he knew better than to have them.
All the same, things like this made him think. Made him miss the days before he'd become who he was. The days he had no regrets over even though he probably should. Sometimes he missed the career ladder-climbing jackass he'd been. That guy had definitely had life easier.
Spender had been wandering the park more or less aimlessly, not so much thinking as avoiding his thoughts. And now, he'd settled on a bench and was enjoying the early morning, when he could be alone.
