So I hear there are all sorts of different types of sympathy 'magic' here. I know I'm new here, but I thought it might be a good idea if we all got together and learned what we could from each other? It seems like we'd all end up gaining something from that.

I have known a witch who shared with me her craft.

A witch? I'm sorry, I don't know this word.

Female version of 'wizard'. Generic term in some worlds/timelines for magic user.

So a wizard is like an arcanist...?

As I said, it's a generic term. Applied to almost anyone who practices magic. Harry might have more to say on the topic; I'm from a magicless world. Long story short is witch is a female magic user. I can't speak to further distinctions.

You come from a world of flight and that is not magic?

No, it's science. Cesare compared it to Da Vinci. Like that.

I have never met Leonardo himself, mind you, but I understand.

Yes, like your brother said, inventors. An airplane isn't magic any more than a gun or boat is.

Inventors. They do things that are like magic, but call it science.

It is difficult to tell the difference between the two, brother. They are both beyond us

I know, and they're not gifted at explaining the difference either. Though Georgia and one other tried.

Do you yet understand the computer, Cesare? I want to see an airplane.

Understand? No. But I can use it, I'll show you an airplane sis. The google is unhelpful but for that it'll be enough.

I- Such a title can be dangerous, Cassiopeia, but I can see why such knowledge might be useful.

No, I don't suppose that he would. Don't fret, I'll be sure to keep your secret. Only - it's your decision, of course, but you might want to consider whether meeting up with these other magic users here is a good idea?

I will not go, but I find it difficult to deny any instruction that will make my time here less unpleasant. Five hundred years is... a very long time to not know a thing about.

Then have Cesare teach you? My brother is teaching me what I need to know, and anything outside of that I can find out about by talking to others here that I can trust.

Georgia? Yes, she's awfully honest and straightforward, you can trust her.

And you can trust me, although this place is as foreign to me as to you and I can't promise I'll have answers to give you. In my case it's eighty-two years rather than five hundred, but it might as well be the latter, for all the good it does.
