Murphy had gone completely domestic. Okay, not in the least, but there were very definitely times that he didn't mind it. Like now, with Alex in the cart and making quietly content small child noises. He still had trouble sometimes believing that his son was a little over a year old now, not that he was arguing with it. Alex was one of the best thing that'd ever happened to him, right along with the little guy's mother.
Ugh, he was such a sap sometimes.
"Tell your mother about this and I will never speak to you again," he said, looking at Alex. "You know this, right?"
He was rewarded with raspberries for his trouble.
"Yeah, you totally know I'm lying about that. I like you way too much, kiddo." Murphy talked to his son like Alex was an adult, because baby-talk just made no sense to him. "Plus your mom would kick my ass. So would everyone else." And he'd deserve it, because he'd always said he'd be a better parent than his mother had been. (His father had been damn good, though.)
"Okay, where'd the shopping list go... hey, give me that, thank you," he said, tugging the piece of paper out of his son's hand. "I need that. We need food in the house or else the werewolf in the basement is going to get cranky."
