Who: Melinda and Ned
Where: High school chemistry lab
When: Valentines Day
What: Melinda cooked for a Ned for Valentine’s Day. And chemistry lab was where they did their first tutoring session.

Melinda was so happy, she loved what she got from Ned and hoped that he liked what she got him. She would thank him personally. She felt like she hipped him though cause she got a whole spa day and she gave him $25 for the arcade. So she insisted that she do more so she decided to cook him a nice dinner and make it special. Melinda had gotten permission to use the chemistry lab and as she walked to class she sent Ned a text. “Hey meet me in the chemistry lab at 6:00 pm. Have a surprise for you. XOXO Melinda”. Smiling as she continued her day and then went home after school.

Few hours later, Melinda was carrying in a full meal and decorations. She had arrived at 5:00 and decorated the chemistry lab with red balloons and streamers. Setting everything nice on top one of the tables on a white tablecloth. Everything was still hot and smelled delicious. Melinda had made a pasta dish she learned from her mom to make then had salad, breadsticks and a strawberry cake for dessert. She had sparkling cider chilling in a bucket of ice. Melinda got herself ready at home but knew she needed to freshen up so she looked at herself in a mirror and smoothed out her red dress and fixed her hair. As it was gearing towards 6:00 she sat down on a stool and waited for Ned. She hoped that he would like the nice gesture.

Melinda was patiently waiting, she couldn't wait to spend time with Ned. But, was she overdressed? Shaking her head, she smiled. There was no way she was overdressed, it was a special day and she always enjoyed dressing up. So when he walked in, she got up and smiled at him. "Well, hello to you too." Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "You look great too by the way. I always dig a fedora" Winking at him.

Ned did look great, and with him wearing black and her in red they were a perfect match for Valentines Day. Looking at him, she giggled. "Well, thank you. So I hope that you like pasta and stuff. It's my recipe that my mom taught me."

"Are you kidding? I love pasta." The wink and her comment, though, left Ned a little bashful and he was blushing just a little bit too. She had a way of making him feel attractive which, while Betty had done it to some degree, with Melinda it felt more genuine. "I uh, I brought you flowers." He held up a bouquet of sunflowers. He knew roses were more customary, but he thought sunflowers were pretty and bright like she was. "I can't believe you did all this. It's amazing."

“Well great!” She said as she gave him a wide smile. “Pasta is probably my strong suit. I’m trying to work on my grilling skills and desserts of course. My mom is the best cook ever, and I try to work up to her expertise.” Shrugging her shoulders. “I did manage to make a strawberry cheesecake cause it’s easy and me and an oven isn’t really working out right now.” Making am embarrassed face. Looking at the flowers he brought she smiled. “Sunflowers are my favorite. Thank you.” She took them and smelled them. “Sorry it’s nothing too fancy. But, I thought since this is where we had our first tutoring session that this classroom is something special. I wouldn’t have gotten where I am now if it weren’t for your amazing chemistry skills.” She started to fish out dinner.

He looked at her as she busied herself getting the dinner out. He probably should have offered to help, but he was rather dumbstruck at the moment as he stood there. She had done all of this. His gifts definitely did not seem good enough now.

After a moment of deliberation, which just so happened to coincide with their dinner out on the table, Ned walked up to Melinda and took her gently by the hand. He turned her to face him and pulled her in for a slow, deep kiss. He deepened the kiss, holding it there until he had to breathe . When he pulled away he was a little flushed. "...Sorry. I just - this is amazing and I wanted to show you how much I liked it."

Melinda thought about how much money he spent on her for the spa. All she did was get him a $25 arcade gift card. So dinner was the least she could do to add to his gift. She wasn’t expecting anything else and when he brought the flowers it was even more of a gesture. She really liked him and didn’t want to screw anything up. She seemed to ramble though when she was nervous so she just busied herself with the food and made the plates look good decorative style.

Then he did something she didn’t think would happen but glad it did. He kissed her and she returned the kiss with some passion and then they both had to come up for some air. Looking at him she saw his flushed skin and she had turned a little red. “Well, I wasn’t expecting that. But I’m glad that it did.” She then leaned in and gave him another kiss and putting her arms around his neck.

Wow, yeah. He definitely liked this a lot. Kissing Melinda was nice and he liked having her in his arms too and maybe the dinner would cool off a little, but that was okay. "I, uh... You're amazing." He laughed suddenly when he realized how much he was repeating himself. "Sorry. I'm just really happy. And as long as you are too, then today is awesome." He smiled to her. He hadn't thought he could be this happy, but he was.

When Melinda pulled away from kissing Ned, she looked at him. “Stop, you’re going to make me blush like a tomato. Because I think you’re the sweetest guy I’ve ever known. Most people only wanted to date me back home cause of my name. But it’s different with you. I feel like myself around you and it’s actually really nice.” She said acting sincere and letting her feelings out. “To answer your question, I’m very happy. I haven’t smiled like this in a very long time. And I have you to thank for that.” The aroma of the food was devouring her senses. “I thought maybe we could eat, I can clean up and then what do you think about going to the arcade for a little fun?” She asked him.

The more she spoke, the more he grinned. He definitely had no idea why people would want to date her because of her name, though he wondered if it was because of the whole witch thing. He was just glad he made her happy. To Ned, that was the most important.

He nodded happily. "I like that idea. But I'll help you clean up too, that way we can get to the arcade sooner." He kissed her again, this time a little softer, sweeter.

“Awwww you’re so sweet.” She said with a grin and kissed him softly on the lips. As they sat and ate their food, Melinda couldn’t help but keep smiling. She had dated some real douchebags and a couple nice people but Ned was different. She could tell and was in a much happier place. Ned made her feel special and so far this date was going amazingly. After dinner and dessert, Ned and Melinda cleaned up and she stored her stuff in her locker. She would get it later. Then they walked to the arcade. They had played video games and she had lost to Ned for the fighting games but she got her revenge with some air hockey.

Melinda was happy, she was having a blast and couldn’t help but laugh and smile. Then Melinda and Ned walked to her house and she didn’t want the night to end, but sadly it had to. “That was a great night. I had fun. Happy Valentines Day. You make me feel so special and I really have true and sincere feelings for you. With that, I say good night and I’ll text you tomorrow while I’m at work.” She then kisses him goodnight as she went into her house.
