Who: Liz Parker and OPEN
What: Clothing somehow is more confusing now
Where: Walmart
When: Wednesday afternoon
Rating: Low

Liz was never one to feel pressured to 'fit in' as much as other people, but she didn't like standing out in a crowd either. She knew enough from observing other people that her tendency towards spaghetti straps, skirts, and shirt that hinted at your mid-drift were now, according to the network post she saw about the GSA dance 'retro'. It was an entirely bizarre concept, but she decided she should go find some actual clothes for school next week. Ones that wouldn't make her stand out so much.

However, as Liz walked through the clothing aisle - Roswell didn't even get a Walmart until five years ago and even then her father had been a big advocate of 'buying local' and they had never stepped foot into one. There were so many options it was a bit dizzying. There were shirts with phrases on them that she didn't understand. She passed by a shirt that said 'OK Boomer' and had no idea what that meant. She stopped at a shirt with sequence on it and was surprised when the sequence changed colour when smoothed the other way.

What really was confusing was the pants. She picked up another pair of leggings. Her brow furrowed. "Does nobody wear actual jeans anymore?"

Lydia really hated Walmart.

They had to shop there a lot because money was often tight in the Bennet household. Or so it had been explained to her. Every time it was still awful. But Lydia needed retail therapy. Literally every friend she had made since arriving was gone. And it really, really sucked. She was excited to have a new job (and she would need it if she was doing this retail therapy thing often) and at least Lizzie was still around (whether that was good or bad, she was still deciding). But it honestly hurt.

So she was wandering the clothing section, giving the juniors' apparel a once over. Their spring line seemed okay. Nothing was as bad as the year they had tried to make lumberjack jane a thing.

She heard the voice and glanced over, grinning. "Oh, yeah. A few styles. Leggings are just super comfy. Are you on Team Leggings Aren't Pants?" She knew most people were on one side or the other. Frankly, as long as she looked hot, she didn't care.

Liz paused and blinked as she held out the stretchy fabric. "Um... well, I've never really heard about leggings until a minute ago, so I don't know?" She felt stupid - a feeling she didn't like to feel. "They do look comfortable... but they kind of remind me of tights or pajama bottoms." She hoped she didn't offend the woman.

"Do you, um, have an opinion?"

Who hadn't heard of leggings? Weren't they basically classics? "Well, some people think they're too tight to wear as pants. I think anything that makes your butt look good is a win."

She reached out, grabbing a part with pretty pink and purple swirl print. "They are insanely good for working out, though. Or pajama bottoms. You get to be comfy and be the cutest girl at the slumber party, too." She found herself kind of missing old fashioned slumber parties. Hair, nails, makeup, gossip. Those were the good days. "You could wear more plain ones underneath stuff, too. Or like...those?" She pointed at some with a bright but more muted print. "Those would look cute under a big red or orange sweater. Not for me, of course, orange is out, but you could pull it off." She pointed to her bright red hair for emphasis. Orange was not ever going to be her color.

She considered the orange leggings which apparently were not a good colour anymore before looking back to her. "You sound like you really know you're stuff... Are you a designer or something?" She had a feeling Maria back home would have really liked the woman, just from the initial impression.

"I guess I'll try a pair... maybe black for now. I'm just to more jeans and skirts... but then I guess that's what happens when you're not from this time." Her expression was sheepish and a little self-deprecating. "I'm Liz, by the way."
