Who: OTA
Where: The Shire portal
When: Saturday, January 11.
What: It's Bilbo's birthday!
Warnings: Likely low, poke me if need be.
Status: Open to anyone and everyone!

It was the last day of the portal to the Shire. And, coincidentally, it was Bilbo Baggins's eleventy-first birthday party. There were lots and lots of Hobbits gathered to celebrate Bilbo's birthday, as well as Gandalf the Grey. There was ale and good food and a firework display to be set off near the end of the night. There was also music and dancing and good conversation.

The Hobbits might be a bit wary of the people from Madison Valley at the party, but they'll definitely warm up to everyone! They're a friendly sort.

It is September 22 in the Shire, and a nice, fall evening.

Mia hadn't untended on party crashing when she'd decided to check out the portal, but she'd kind of just stepper right into the edge of it. That had been unfortunate, since it wasn't like she could easily sneak away. She stood out like a freaking giant around all the hobbits and there was a part of her that thought her mom would probably love this. She didn't really get it, but she wasn't about to go home either. Madison Valley had some good things about it, but not that many.

So that was how she found herself seated at one of the tables at the outskirts of the party, a mug full of something that passed for alcohol in front of her. "This is so lame," she muttered, although as she said as much, she felt someone approaching behind her. Mia turned, her blonde hair moving with a bit of oomph with the gesture, and caught the appearance of someone who definitely looked out of place.

"You might as well grab a seat. This place is beyond boring, so really, there's only one option untless you want to head back to Madison." And that was, obviously, to drink for a while.

Ciri had left Madison Valley to explore the Shire. She stood head and shoulders over the Hobbits, and with her almost pure white hair she want stood out. It didn't bother her much, she was used to be stared at.

The alcohol was worse than anything she'd had call on the Continent and that was saying something. She did have a loaf of fresh bread in hand, though, and that was at least delicious.

Ciri was passing behind Mia when the young woman spoke, she paused then, "I suppose you are right." She dropped into the open seat next to her and lifted her mug. "Here's to weak ale at least not Madison Valley?" She adjusted the swords at her back so she didn't hit anyone.

"At least it's not Madison Valley," Mia repeated, lifting her own glass of what could barely be called beer. It tasted like it was brewed in the middle of nowhere, with little to no skill. She took a long swallow and pulled a face once she set her mug down.

"I keep hoping I'll get used to the taste, but I can't drink enough quickly enough for that to actually be a thing." It was very disappointing. Mia finally looked over at the white haired woman and noted the attire. "You must be new. I'm Mia." She didn't extend her hand, but she did incline her head slightly in greeting.

Shosanna wasn't familiar with the Shire, but she wanted to check out the portal before it was no longer available. She knew it had been in town for some time now, and she also knew that portals were not around for long. So when she heard there was a party in the Shire that evening, of course she was going to go. What else was there to do? It was a Saturday evening, and she was playing hooky from work just to go to the birthday party of someone she'd never even heard of.

She had found a table and a glass of ale, and was enjoying herself. Yes, she stood out with all the rather small Hobbits, but she was perfectly alright with that. Yes, the Hobbits were giving her a few strange looks, but she understood. She towered over them.

But the food and drink were good. That's what mattered.

Awhile ago, Link had spoken to Legalos and he mentioned being from a place called Middle Earth. And while this wasn't the exact place he was from, Link was still interested in seeing the Shire. Luckily, it was Saturday and he had finished all his homework, so he was free to explore the portal.

Apparently, it was someone's birthday, which was quite exciting. Link never really celebrated birthdays or even really knew when he was born. He wandered around a bit, hoping to see Legalos or another familiar face. No luck so far, as he munched on some food. Feeling tired, he found a seat next to an older woman.

"Mind if I sit here?" he asked.

Shosanna looked up when the teenager approached her, and she offered him a small smile. "Of course not," she said, and scooted over on the bench to make room for him. She liked meeting new people, and Link was definitely a new person. At least, new to her.

"How do you like the Shire?" she asked, her head tilting slightly. "Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect when I heard we could come here. But everyone seems nice, and parties are great." No, she didn't know Bilbo, but he was turning 111. She had a feeling that was even old for Hobbits.

Scott had been obsessed with the Lord of the Rings trilogy growing up. And The Hobbit. So he was beyond excited that the Shire was available, even for a short while. And then to be able to go to Bilbo's birthday party? That made everything even better. This whole experience made being stuck in Madison Valley almost worth it.

And Gandalf was here. Who wouldn't be excited about partying with Hobbits and Gandalf the Grey? Crazy people, that's who.

He was wandering around the party, not particularly caring that he was a few feet taller than the tallest of the Hobbits. He also had a thing of ale in his hand, because what was a party in the Shire without alcohol?

There was absolutely no way Ella wasn't going to go to a party in the freaking Shire, of all places. Like all good nerds, she loved The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbbit, too. Honestly, she was just hoping to get a peek at Sam, her favorite of the Hobbits. Maybe she could even talk him into a dance.

...probably not. She was definitely no Rosie Cotton.

She grabbed a mug of ale, wrinkling her nose thoughtfully as she tasted it. Well, better than most of the ones at home. When she turned around to watch a few fireworks go off, she almost bumped into one of the few people taller than her. "Oh hi! Judging by height I have to assume you're from where I'm from!" From being relative. Madison Valley and all.

Scott was hoping to get a peek at any of the popular Hobbits, honestly. Frodo or Sam, Merry or Pippin. He wasn't picky. Hell, he'd even take Gandalf. Which was one of the reasons he was at the party in the Shire.

He had been trying to keep an eye out, trying not to bump into anyone around. It was difficult not to run into the Hobbits, they were so much shorter than he was.

"Hey!" he said, when Ella almost ran into him. "Someone tall!" Tall being a relative term, since Ella was still shorter than he was. "This party is the best," he enthused.

There was no way in hell that Wash was going to miss out on Carolina dressing like she had dressed to come here. They'd joked at several points watching the Lord of the Rings movies about trying to get Carolina to dress like Aragorn and she constantly turned them down so he'd pretty much figured it wouldn't happen.

And it was worth wearing the clothing himself to see her in it. Actually, she and York both. Now he was going to have to get Tucker dressed like they were. And maybe Tucker had a point when he asked if it was a fetish but he wasn't thinking of that thank you.

He was sitting off to the side with a plate of the food and a mug of the drinks that were going around watching the merriment and feeling more than a little like none of it was real. But he was enjoying it anyway.

Ariel was super happy to have a birthday party to celebrate with the whole town AND a whole bunch of other people. She knew today wasn't actually January 11th through the portal, but she was treating it like her birthday anyhow. She'd invited a bunch of people she knew and went through to have probably the best birthday she could have if she wasn't at home with her family. She missed her sisters a lot, and her dad and Sebastian and Flounder and Scuttle. She missed a lot of people, but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy what was happening right in front of her.

So she danced and ate and drank and danced some more, through the tables until she tripped over her own two feet and fell into the lap of someone who'd been sitting at one of the tables.

"Oh! I'm so sorry! I'm pretty good with my feet but I still get a little too ahead of myself sometimes," she apologized with a bright grin. Hopefully he wouldn't mind. "Are you having fun?" Ariel forgot that she probably should get up from his lap, mostly because her feet and legs did need a break now that she'd taken a second to stop.

Luckily getting a stray teenager in his lap didn't make him spill anything. Also luckily he caught himself before he could do anything violent to the stranger that had just landed in his lap. These were the kinds of things he really worried about and it was part of why he really got tense about going to bigger parties and gatherings. But, he hadn't put her in an arm lock or punched her so that was good. His blood pressure had gone up pretty sharply but that wasn't going to hurt him.

"Pretty good with your feet?" He wasn't sure what she meant by that, or knew if he should be familiar with that. It seemed familiar.

And she wasn't getting out of his lap.

"Did you need a hand up?"

If he had been eight, Kenny probably would've been more excited about visiting the Shire than he was. Lord of the Rings was a favorite of his and his friends when they were younger, and he was sure they'd all would be thrilled for the chance to actually visit the place. But adult Kenny? Not that excited if at all. Not too surprising, though. He was having trouble finding excitement in his life lately.

But even if he wasn't too excited, he still figured he'd check out the party, even if just for a little while. After all, it wasn't every day one could go to Bilbo Baggins's 111th birthday party. So he went, sitting at one of the many tables and drinking ale while watching the fireworks.

Unlike most, Brooke wasn’t at all impressed or fangirling over where they were able to visit. Honestly, she didn’t even really care since this had never been her type of interest ever in her life. Now the story would be different with some of her other friends, but eh it was whatever to her. No, she had come mainly to see the big deal and to get a different change of scenery from Madison. A girl could only take so much cold and snow before losing her mind and the portal came at the perfect time to take a break from it all.

At least her decision to visit wasn’t a total loss. Brooke was very much on board with a party even if it was with a bunch of tiny people who she couldn’t even remember what their names were since she was pretty sure she fell asleep or wasn’t paying attention. Either one was very likely from her! Brooke had been enjoying some ale when she spotted Kenny, smirking as she went over to the guy.

“You look about ready to burst from all the fun you’re having,” she moved to sit across from him, flashing a smile. “I know it’s hard but try to contain all that fun.”

At least the food was good and the fireworks were kind of fun to watch. He was hoping for the giant dragon one but no luck so far.

He turned his gaze back down when he heard someone approach and speak to him, giving Brooke a little grin. "I can't help it. This is all just so exciting," he replied. Despite his smile, his tone and eyes said something different and he still didn't look all that excited. Maybe he was deep, deep down but it was obvious it wasn't showing.

"Didn't think I'd see you here. You don't seem to be the type to like Lord of the Rings or any of that shit."

True to her word, Lisa had gone through the portal with Legolas to explore his world. It was a lot different than Madison Valley and she could understand how hard it must have been for him to adjust to a life there as compared to the one he had lived in the Shire. It was a lot different than Lisa's world too. Lisa's world was a lot like Madison Valley except a bit more exciting because of Meta-humans and all of that. However, the party was like any other party. There was plenty of food, drink, and dancing. There were also fireworks. At Lisa did not feel so out of place with those basics involved.

She'd found a place off to the side, managing to squeeze herself into one of those little hobbit sized chairs. There was a plate of food on the small table beside her as well as a cup of ale though she'd only managed a few sips of it before giving up on it and turning to plain water instead. While the locals had looked at her funny at first, they seemed to be warming up to the Madison Valley folk the more they were exposed to them.

He was only doing this for Ariel.

It was the teenager's seventeenth birthday, after all. And though he had already given her a big stuffed fish (groan) and a sparkly tee shirt that was a little less obnoxiously coloured than most of her outfits (double groan), she had invited her friends to visit the Shire and celebrate her birthday as well as Bilbo's. So...he went. (Triple groan)

Now Crowley was no reader, but he did enjoy films. He had, after all, witnessed the entire evolution of cinema. And the Lord of the Rings movies were enjoyable enough. Lovely landscape and all. Besides, a party was a party. So he was drinking, keeping an eye on his tiny redhaired protégé, and drinking more.

He finally squeezed into one of the tiny chairs and nodded at the woman across the table. "Ever been in one of those kids' schools with the tiny chairs and desks? I feel like this is that. But without maths. Or those awful Dick and Jane books."

"Only when I was a kid myself and that feels like a lifetime ago," Lisa replied bluntly. She didn't have children of her own back home and the future children she had experienced here? Well, she was pretty sure at least one of them was not showing up now that a certain supernatural hunter had been gone from the town for months now. As far as Dick and Jane books, Lisa was pretty sure those went extinct before she was in school, but she couldn't say for sure.

"But there was no Dick and Jane I'm pretty sure," she added with a brief smile. "I think that was before my time." She considered herself old, but not that old.

While Buffy was not a big Lord of the Rings fan (that sounded more like Will's book choice), she was interested in leaving Madison Valley for a bit. Everything that had happened in the last few months had made the town feel rather suffocating and sad. There were a lot of memories in Madison Valley and Buffy felt a need to escape if only to attend a party with some little people for a while. It honestly wasn't the weirdest thing she'd ever witnessed either.

Like most parties, there was plenty of food to go around and drink too. Buffy avoided the alcohol; though the Hobbits seemed friendly enough, she wasn't about to let her guard down in a strange world. Instead, she opted to try some of the food and find a place to sit in time to experience the fireworks display that was happening near the end of the night. The weather was warmer here and it was fall. Buffy appreciate the change in temperature for the better (she was still a Cali girl after all and winters were rough).

There was a tiny part of Buffy that hoped to run into the Doctor again. The other woman was cheerful and fun to be around and right now Buffy needed all the cheer and fun she could get. Besides, she was a little quirky and Buffy found that interesting. So, when the other woman suddenly popped up beside her, Buffy naturally almost spilled her water all over herself. Thankfully, she had some stellar, slayer reflexes to keep that from happening.

"Hey," Buffy greeted with a warm smile as she quickly shifted her water back on to the small table. "I was just thinking about you actually and wondering if you would have gone through this portal." Buffy blushed a little. She hoped she didn't come off as weird for admitting that. "Sorry, that sounded a bit weird, but I am glad to see you again. And yes, the Hobbits are definitely good at throwing parties. I wish they had bigger furniture, but it's not too bad."

"How have you been? Enjoying the new year?"

Traveling through portals when they appeared was always something Hiccup liked to do. He'd gotten a chance to share his home world with his fellow refugees and it had made him feel good. That was why he wanted to experience the worlds of others, to let them have that same feeling. A party wasn't really Erik's cup of tea, so Hiccup had invited Star along with him. They'd left the dragons in Madison Valley, something Hiccup had insisted on, but they had flown them to the portal and left them nearby with enough fish to keep them occupied for a while.

Once they stepped through the portal, it was pretty clear they were at a huge birthday party. "This Bilbo Baggins man must be very well liked to have this many people at his party. Though shouldn't it be one hundred and eleven?" Hiccup asked as they made their way closer to the party.

Star on the other hand, LOVED a party so she was a great choice to have with you at one. She kind of wished they could have brought the dragons but she did understand that they weren't universally loved and might do something crazy like cause a stampede or something. That might not be the best birthday present ever.

"Wellll, maybe they count different than we do. Or maybe it's like an in joke that we don't get...which that happens for me a lot. Or who knows? It's just fun!"

Ruby had never gone through a portal in Madison Valley before. When the portal for the Shire opened up, despite not ever hearing of it before, Ruby decided to go through and explore. She knew it could be dangerous, but she heard about a party they were having there too and that sounded like a lot of fun. There was supposed to be fireworks, food, and dancing too through Ruby was not good at the latter. However, she was always up for tasting new foods (or food in general) and seeing fireworks.

Arriving in a flurry of red rose petals, Ruby's first stop should not have surprised anyone in the area who happened to know the RWBY leader. She skipped her way to the table where the food was laid out, along with massive mugs of what smelled like a kind of alcohol. Ruby avoided those and started to fill her plate with meat, bread, and something that looked like pie. Having seen what alcohol did to her uncle, she didn't think she would ever try it in her lifetime, but trying all kinds of food was never off the table even if it happened to make the young woman sick once and awhile from a particularly bad combination.

Once she'd succeeded in overflowing her plate, Ruby located an empty patch of grass and took a seat. Balancing her plate on her lap, Ruby immediately reached for what she believed to be a dessert and took a bite only to be disappointed.

"Oh, boo. It tastes like meat," Ruby exclaimed, shaking her head. "Do they not have any dessert here?" Could such a world exist?

Aziraphale was always going to be here, after all Ariel wanted her friends to celebrate her birthday and there was no way he would say no to her. It was actually rather fun so far and he, of course, appreciated the food and drink available. And the people watching he could do was fascinating, he did love the array of people Madison valley held.
