And so (Niks)
Simon found Niklas easily. He didn't speak to her when he did, though. And he paid no attention to the women in the house who tried to stop him as he headed toward the stairs. The fairy waved a hand and they forgot he was even there. He didn't even knock on her door, just slid the elegantly written note under it and left again.

It stated simply to meet him in the Dreamlands in two nights time.

The time passed easily for him, he found many things to occupy himself while he was waiting. The citizens of this world weren't too exciting, but Simon did like their clothing, and he liked the cars. There was plenty of interesting sights, despite the lack of interesting people. He knew he could have sought out any of the ones who he had been moved with, they would at least be better than any of the ones they were now stuck with. But he wanted his mind clear when he spoke to Niks. There was already Isaac to think about, and what he might be able to do with the youth. Or to him.

Simon waited in the forest at the bottom of the stairs, not hiding his true face, and even displaying the wings he more often than not kept hidden. He knew that she liked them. He lay on his stomach in a patch of beautifully colored flowers. The brightness of everything in the Dreamlands was a bit startling after all the black and white, even for him. He found himself fascinated with a particular purple color at the moment, gently touching the edges of the petal to move it into light and shadow respectively. The green of the grass was beautifully rich, and the fairy wondered how anybody could live their life forever never knowing color.

He wore nothing other than a bit of cloth around his lower bits for modesty. His bare feet wiggled in the lush foliage around him, and he listened to the sounds of birds and other animals. Simon didn't know if he was ever as truly at peace as he was when in the Dreamlands.

"You needed to be whole." Simon said softly. He tilted his head to look at her. He longed to reach out and brush her dark hair from her eyes. To move it away from the points that he knew her ears would now have. But he would not touch. Not yet. "You have been living as only a part of what you are, Niklas. I couldn't let you think too much on it. You're too logical. You might have decided against it. I acted, and I don't regret it."

He looked up from her at the trees and silently delighted that she could use them already. That she was so very open to her surroundings now. That they would respond to and for her. And she the same for everything here.

"How, I'm sure you felt. It was an unlocking. Maybe more of a puzzle than a traditional lock. Putting the right edges together to get the whole picture. I've always seen it in you, sweets. I've always wanted to see what you had inside be what you were. But until now, it's been kept from me. I watched you grow up, aching to set you free."

Simon settled onto the grass to answer the last part. "You are fairy blood, Niklas Wright. Enough so that you have a faerie name. It'll come to you. You'll know it. You can't not. What you are is a key, a ... gateway, perhaps... a conduit. You and the Dreamlands are connected. Do you understand me, lovie?"

The wind, if it could be called that, picked up, and the trees shook with anger and fear. He had done something to her, and he had done it without permission. This was not the first time he'd taken liberties, but this was such a very large liberty. He had taken her reality and flipped it, much worse than the aliens or whatever they were had done to them.

Finally she looked up at him, her eyes changed as much as the rest of her. She wasn't glaring; she was still in too much shock. He had told her something she felt was true all along, but that didn't make the hearing it any easier. The storybook life she'd had, even if it was a darkly written one, was now more so. She had been changed to a mythical creature, the kind she was supposed to protect.

"You decided to play with me? Instead of break me, you remade me?" Her voice sounded odd. There was a music in it that hadn't been before. If it had come from another's mouth, she might have thought it deceptively beautiful; from her own, it was just odd.

"Why would you ache for my wholeness?" She leaned in; he looked different. She had known he was different, but he looked, felt different. She knew he was not human on a level she hadn't before, and it was frightening yet...

"You changed me."

"Niklas, you know better than to think I remade you, kitten. You were already this way. I merely shoved the bits into the order they were meant to be in."

Simon could understand her upset, he could. He had expected it, in addition. He could say the same thing over and over to her in a hundred different ways, and she'd ask again until it was settled in her own mind what had gone on.

"Why would I not? None of fairy blood should ever be forced to be anything less. You were less, Niklas. I could see the light inside of you, burning. I wanted your fire to breathe."

He sighed a little. "Yes, in a way I did. You are not the way you are used to being, but there's not really any change. Not in the way you're making it sound. I did not turn you into something you are not. You are not sitting before me as a tea kettle. You're a young woman of fairy blood who has been given her gifts back."

"Shoved." Niks's lips pursed at the word; there may have been a hint of brow furrowing. The word was violent, but then most births were. Her face stayed a little on the sour side as she realized she was rationalizing, giving him a way out. She didn't like that. He had done something to her without her permission, and she was fairly certain he wasn't at all sorry for it.

"You did not tell me. Why not tell me? So much of my life could be explained if I had known." She hoped that were the truth, yet it was quite possible that her extra bit of DNA wouldn't have mattered one bit. She would have had the same life with the same understanding of it. Perhaps a little less guilt for how she saw the world...probably not.

"I didn't know they'd been taken away. How can you be given something back you never knew existed?" She shivered as the breeze blew her hair just right to brush along her ear. It sent a thrill down her spine she wasn't sure she cared for. Questions and indignation were temporarily forgotten for other questions and growing self-awareness.

Her hand rose slowly to fix that errant lock or three of hair. Her own finger tips brushed at the tip of her ear, the small point, and the contact forced a gasp from her lips which was quickly followed by a "you bloody buggering bugger."

"You..." She was on her feet much quicker than she expected, and had to take a moment to reorient herself. Her body felt different, responded better, as if yes, it were finally fully hers. She glared at Simon before moving to where she believed a small pool waited for her.

"I don't understand." The face reflecting back from the water's surface was hers, yet it wasn't. There was an otherness that spoke of age and understanding, that spoke of wild days and nights of wanton abandon, that spoke of mystery beyond her ken, at least for now.

"That can't be me? She's beautiful." Her voice held the confused awe. She had no intention of becoming Narcissus there at the edge of a pool; she simply could not believe it, even as the reflection mirrored the way her hands moved over her face and moved her hair out of the way of now very sensitive...ear tips?

"Tell you so that you could tell the Tower?" Simon shook his head. "Tell you so that you could knot yourself up about it when I could do nothing to help? Tell you so that you could what, Niks? Just knowing has never been enough for you. You would have never been content with the mere fact of the information. What would you have done with it?"

The fairy watched Niks without saying anything as she discovered her ears, as she got up and moved so wonderfully. The grace that she had always hinted at was fully formed now. And Simon knew that he would see it as well in the waking world. What she was here would no longer be restricted to here. Oh, there would be things that wouldn't be allowed out there, of course, the magnificent glow about her would never translate, for example.

When she looked upon herself, Simon stood and moved to her. He approached slowly, letting her watch the reflection. When he reached Niks, he placed gentle hands on her shoulders, standing behind her and looking into that watery mirror, too. Simon reached around and up, touching her cheek softly.

"This is you, dearest." His voice was as light as the breeze, low and serious. "This is the face of you that I have always seen. This is what I knew was back there. You've always been beautiful, kitten. Even your human face was enchanting enough to draw a fairy. But this, this I saw under that, this has always ached to break out. All of what you are is free now."

Niks knew that the fairy was right. She would have told the Tower, and she would have wanted to know more, to understand who she was. Lowering herself down to kneel beside the pool, she finally reached out to touch the water's surface, jerking back when the water rippled. It was water, and that was her reflection. She sighed softly.

"I don't know what to think, Simon." She sounded almost lost as she looked up at him over her shoulder. She felt lost. One of her hands had returned to her ear, barely touching it. She wanted to feel without sending tiny shivers all over her body.

"How...will I have these? I can't hide these out there." Yes, she was more than a little worried. She didn't feel any sort of power; she felt different, felt a little less lost, but she didn't feel powerful. She couldn't hide like he could, could she?

"You need some time." He nodded.

Simon knew what she was feeling when she touched that ear. He felt it every time one of his own was brushed. His was a thousand times more intense, but what she was feeling now was a thousand times more intense than what she had felt before.

She would need time to get used to all of it.

"I recommend that you spend as much time as you can here, to get used to how you are now. The waking world is going to be overwhelming for you at first. I dare say that it's actually a good thing we're in a world that has no color. You'll have one less bombardment."

He was completely enchanted with the way that she moved.

"What you look like here won't be quite so obvious there. You'll be able to hide them better. They'll still be present. Anybody looking close enough will see. Your dog will know right away. Mikey will, too, more than certainly, but it's more a question on if he'll care. But I should think that your hair is long enough to cover them for the most part." Simon moved so that he could sit by the water next to her. "If you like, I can place a glamour over you in the waking world to make you a little less obvious. I would so hate to, as I think that everyone should see you as you are, but I will if you ask it of me."

"I cannot stay here. They'll worry. I'll fade away if I stay here." Her last few words had many meanings, and she didn't want any of them. Niks sighed softly, the world around them seem to do the same. It was a sort of reluctant acceptance, which was not to say she had completely accepted it. She had accepted that things had changed.

"Must you call him that?" Her brows furrowed a little as she looked at him, trying to discern what of her was fairy by having the full blooded thing before her.

"Who? Which of my parents had the fairy blood? Were they full blooded? Did you always know?" Evan was put aside; she did wonder where he was, and would until she saw him again, if she saw him again. "How long have you known me? Did you know them? You...you didn't have anything to do with their deaths, did you? You wouldn't hurt them to do this, right?" She couldn't believe that even at his cruelest that Simon would deny a child her parents, but then he had a habit of proving her beliefs so very wrong.

"Tell me a story, Simon." She moved closer, pausing now and then when her hair shifted in a certain way. Finally she settled in against his side, her fingers finding their way to his wings. "Tell me a story with truth, and tell me how I will be able to handle what has happened. You can even tell me how you'll win me over again, so that I'm not so very upset with you." Yes, theirs was an odd relationship, that she could say such things while her fingers trailed ever so lightly over the seemingly delicate wing.

She stretched a little to press a kiss to his cheek, her lips close now to his ear. "Do you have a fairy name?" She knew he did; if she had one, he had. It wasn't a secret so much as a suspicion that they had true names, most creatures of magic did. She was curious what is was.
