And so (Niks)
Simon found Niklas easily. He didn't speak to her when he did, though. And he paid no attention to the women in the house who tried to stop him as he headed toward the stairs. The fairy waved a hand and they forgot he was even there. He didn't even knock on her door, just slid the elegantly written note under it and left again.

It stated simply to meet him in the Dreamlands in two nights time.

The time passed easily for him, he found many things to occupy himself while he was waiting. The citizens of this world weren't too exciting, but Simon did like their clothing, and he liked the cars. There was plenty of interesting sights, despite the lack of interesting people. He knew he could have sought out any of the ones who he had been moved with, they would at least be better than any of the ones they were now stuck with. But he wanted his mind clear when he spoke to Niks. There was already Isaac to think about, and what he might be able to do with the youth. Or to him.

Simon waited in the forest at the bottom of the stairs, not hiding his true face, and even displaying the wings he more often than not kept hidden. He knew that she liked them. He lay on his stomach in a patch of beautifully colored flowers. The brightness of everything in the Dreamlands was a bit startling after all the black and white, even for him. He found himself fascinated with a particular purple color at the moment, gently touching the edges of the petal to move it into light and shadow respectively. The green of the grass was beautifully rich, and the fairy wondered how anybody could live their life forever never knowing color.

He wore nothing other than a bit of cloth around his lower bits for modesty. His bare feet wiggled in the lush foliage around him, and he listened to the sounds of birds and other animals. Simon didn't know if he was ever as truly at peace as he was when in the Dreamlands.

The librarian didn't know how, and in all honesty, she didn't care why the fairy decided to contact her after so long by note. She was simply happy that he had. She had made minor attempts at finding her partner, and she was beginning to fear that he would not appear. Had he been left behind? Had Simon somehow talked to one of these aliens - that's what they had to be, right?

Niks had taken a long bath, working it out with a few of the other women in the building. She'd relaxed herself so that she wouldn't seem too harried when she appeared in the Dreamlands. As she'd been so worried and distracted, she'd had small problems finding it, as if she weren't worthy of the peace and serenity she found in a place that some found overly intoxicating and overwhelming.

The librarian descended the stairs and had to stop herself from the overpowering color. She had forgotten how it felt to see these wonderful colors; the place was gorgeous and mystical, but to see it after being without color for so long...She took a deep breath and released it in a soft laugh that might have suggested this was her first time rather than old hat.

"Now where are you?" she asked softly. He had to know she was here the moment she stepped into the grass at the bottom of the stairs. Her usual clothing forming around her, a gauzy billowing bit of almost nothing. She sighed softly as she felt the Dreamlands around her; it was almost home.

Moving deeper into the forest she spied a set of wings. He had his wings. There was a soft laugh, and she tiptoed up to him, more for herself than any attempt at hiding.

"Have you been naughty, fairy?" She stepped on one of his feet as she looked down at him.

"I'm always naughty, ducks." Simon said, brushing his face against a flower, and turned his head to look over his shoulder at her. "You'll have to be more specific than that."

Seeing her was enough for him, but seeing her here, in the color she was supposed to be in, was pleasing in an altogether different way. Niklas Wright in the Dreamlands was a different person. More fluid, more at ease. More herself. There was freedom in her eyes and in the smile on her lips.

Simon let the wings move lazily to attract her, he knew how much she liked them. It was a part of the game today. Put her at ease. Let her get close. And then he would do what it was that he'd wanted to do for so very long. That thing that he had not had the power for because of the Tower. Now that he had the chance, he wasn't going to risk losing it for anything. Not even her own protestations. She would never know until it was done.

It was a risky way to go, he knew. She might hate him. He felt it was worth it. He would ache with her loss, yet he couldn't really imagine that it would last long at all.

The soft touch of her skin on his moved his lips into a smile.

"You do look happy."

"I am, but I'm not. You know that." Niks was kind enough not to mention a certain name, and she refused to mention others for their protection. The Dreamlands would probably make them happy, possibly. She hadn't figured out Ilyien, so it was quite possible he'd have a fit. Not that she could explain to either of them how to get here without putting Simon on alert.

"You look comfortable." She watched him carefully, her eyes narrowed slightly more in play than in suspicion. Her toes wiggled against his before she moved to settle down near him. Her hands rested in her lap; she'd touch the wings and the ears soon, but for now, she would keep her hands to herself. It was all part of the game.

"I suppose you called me for a purpose?" Her head tilted; was this the something he needed to talk to her about, the something he could only discuss in a protected place? She knew he wouldn't be straightforward, but she thought she'd start that part of the game as well.

"I do know that." Simon nodded, returning his gaze to the flowers. "And I'm more than comfortable. I'm deliriously happy. I've missed color. You never know what you've got until it's gone, right? Who would have thought that color would be so important."

He pulled himself to his knees, a little reluctantly, so he could sit facing her. He crossed his legs after sitting back onto his rear, his knees coming up to his chest.

"I did. I told you that there was something I needed to talk to you about. The time is right. The place is right. I fear that if I put it off anymore, I may miss the chance. But first, Niklas, tell me about your adventures here."

"I have had no adventures. I simply keep living. It's not that easy, and that's really all I can be expected to do here." Niks' nose wrinkled at it; she didn't like not having a real purpose. She barely kept herself under a roof and fed. It was not her favorite way of living, but she could do it. She could do anything she put her mind to, or that's what she tried to believe.

"These are all the adventures I've had. You? I'm sure you've been very busy manipulating, ruining, and being yourself." There was a hint of a smile on her lips as she teased him. She finally reached over and lightly touched his knee giving a soft pinch.

"You have not been behaving yourself even a little bit, have you?" She reached over and lightly tapped the tip of his nose, a tiny smile on her lips.

Simon leaned in closer, so there was only a gap of about of a foot between them. His eyes were slightly closed and there was a look of complete satisfaction on his face.

"I have not been doing anything remotely along the lines of behaving, my darling. There is freedom now, no restraint. I have nobody I need answer to, not one paper to touch if I don't wish. No jobs to go out on. No stupid American artifact hunters to babysit for the Tower because they cannot do it themselves. I do and am as I wish. I told a boy the other day what I am. It was delightful. Unfortunately, not even my magic is strong enough to obliterate the waking world's monochrome problem. Luckily, I am still fantastically attractive in black and white."

The fairy reached out and ran a finger softly along Niks' jawline. His wings fluttered briefly, as if shaking off the horrors of what used to be.

Niks jerked slightly from the touch, her hand dropping to her lap.

"Where is he? You brought him up, even if you did make it plural, and you will tell me where he is. You can find him now, can't you? Did they send him home? Is he in the waking world? I need to know that he is safe." Her eyes pleaded, and her lips were grimly set. She needed information, and she hadn't pushed until now. He could give her something more than he didn't know.

Her hands rested in her lap; her back straightened, shoulders rolling back. She could be cold even her, somewhat. It wasn't easy when everything begged for her to curl up and enjoy.

"If you can be brazen with who and what you are, you can do this."

"I haven't a clue, Niklas." Simon let his hand fall, but didn't move away from her. "The infant isn't with us at the moment, I've not seen nor felt him since we've been here. I doubt they could cut me off so completely from him if he was anywhere on this planet, given my freedom from the restrictions of the Tower, my connection to you, and yours to him. I would tell you if I knew, kitten. That I swear."

Though he was happy to be without the dog, he knew that Niks worried, and he would have done anything to make sure that worry could melt away.

"I can't reach out into the aether and grasp onto nothing, Niklas Wright. Even a fairy isn't capable of such. Evan Vang is not here on this planet, and I've no idea what they've done with him, if anything. Maybe he's back on the last one. Or maybe they sent him to our real home. Perhaps he's waiting on the next planet for you with a bunch of irritatingly romantic flowers scooped up in his over muscled arms."

He was frowning now, though still close.

"He will not do flowers or anything romantic for me, fairy. We are attracted, and we may have fun; but, he is not the settling down type. Then again, neither are you." Niks wasn't overly happy with the answer, but it was the truth. It was easier to tell here, even with his renewed powers. Perhaps, he could hide it from her, yet...

"I am responsible for him, and I am responsible for you. Even if I would prefer you not being able to do all the things you may now do. What can you do now?" It seemed a good time to ask; shift the subject away from something he didn't like. She wanted to know why he would call her here, and she wasn't going to find that out in any civil or pleasant manner if they focused too long on Evan. If Simon could not reach him, she had no other choice for now.

"Before you answer, do be careful of how much you flaunt. You haven't had your full power for a long while, and you do not know what is out there that might hurt you for it. I would not be able to protect you if something is as strong or as clever as you, am I understood?" Her hands were now holding his chin softly so he wouldn't look a way. She wasn't joking even a little at the moment.

"Mmm." Simon smiled again, and the sound came out almost a laugh. Not at her. Just at the idea of needing protection from anything, and that if there was something here he did need protection from, that she would be able to stop it. "Yes, Niks. You are understood."

He was going to let go of all thought of Evan for the moment. The boy wasn't important right now. She was.

"Are you sure you wish to know what it is that I have to tell you, lamb? Have you been achingly curious ever since I mentioned it?"

"I want to know, you know that." Niks's lips thinned as she looked into his eyes; she had kept it pent up. She'd kept many questions pent up since they started traveling, and it had been hard to keep from asking everything. So very few people would know this about her. Simon would know. Simon would know just how much it hurt to keep from asking, and she'd behaved. She'd had no other choice.

"I do not wish. I simply want." She wasn't making any deals with the fairy, not here. Especially not here. Her lips pulled into a slight teasing smile. "Tell me what it is."

She reached out finally and touch his cheek before reaching over to lightly touch the tip of his ear. She'd behaved.

"What do you have to tell me? What is so secret that you had to bring me here? What is couldn't you tell me out there? Are you just teasing me? Is that why you brought me here, mm? To tease me?" Okay, so there were the many many questions.

Simon's smile grew, hearing her words of admission. He leaned into her touch and kept his eyes on hers. He reached out and put his palm on her cheek, rubbing the arch of her cheekbone with his thumb.

"This." the fairy said, pulling himself onto his knees, rolling easily so that they were nose to nose. He could hear her breath, feel it on his skin. Her pulse strong under his hand. Simon slid his fingers around to brace the back of her neck.

"Is going to hurt quite a bit."

His free hand, glowing, sprang forward and plunged deep into Niklas' chest, directly under the collarbone. It went in to his wrist. Simon made sure to keep his eyes on hers as he worked, and kept her upright and still with the hand at her neck.

It was an unlocking. She had secrets within her, and he wanted them exposed. He wanted her to know the whole truth. He wanted her to live life as she was meant to live it, with all of herself. He fit her together like a puzzle, pushing away some things, bringing others forward.

The questions that would come would be many, he knew, but would she be able to see past her anger to ask them? Or perhaps there would be no anger at all, feeling her entirety for the first time. Maybe she would understand. This was one thing on which he could not predict her feelings or actions.

Simon felt the lock click open through all of himself. As if she were in his very veins, his nerves, and he slid his hand free. Carefully, gently, he lowered her into the grass, so that she might recover. He sat back from her, watching. Waiting. Expecting.

Niks was about to say something, make some quip about kissing, as this would be the first time he had ever come to her for it. Her head tilted into his hand, and when he held her neck, when he moved closer, she thought of closing her eyes. Yet, the way he looked into her she couldn't look away.

Her eyes widened as she realized what he was doing, the actions he took not the reasoning behind them. His hand was in her chest, and even here in a place where dreams could come true, she could not fully believe what he was doing.

She felt him deep within her, not just in her mind or body, but something else. He was in her very being, and she could feel his pleasure in rearranging who she was, what she was. She didn't know what the end result would be, but she knew he was playing his own game. He had not asked her permission to do whatever he wished with her being, yet he had done as he wished. This was not entirely new, but the extent to which he was playing was further than she thought capable.

She felt violated, hurt, and overwhelmed with what she did not know. There was a soft sound, that wasn't a sound, that seemed more like a properly struck chord. As if something had been played out of tune for so long the proper sound had been forgotten, and now it played right. Only it came with an invasion she had not expected. She'd say she didn't know she was out of tune, but she knew that that would be a lie.

As soon as he let her go, she curled up on herself, even her clothes grew more opaque, as if to hide her away. She didn't cry; she was much too shocked to cry. She was couldn't even begin to form the simpler questions of "what?" or "why?"

The fairy kept carefully quiet as he watched her. She needed to be the one who spoke first. If he did, he might rush her brain into an acceptance that it wasn't at all ready for.

He stayed within reach of her, but not touching her. There was a little sadness in him at the idea that she had hurt through that. Her confusion tainted the air, and he wished only that she would demand an explanation for him. The only way for her to understand was to hear the words. To know his reasons.

His eyes stayed steadily on her, watching for some cue that she needed him, or wanted him, nearer. He would do what he could for her. Almost anything that she asked him to. At least right now.

"Why?" The word was soft, but it rang in the trees. Just that made Niks curl up tighter. She felt too much here; she'd always felt like she could belong here, but it was the first time she felt like it was hers. Or some part hers. Or she it.

The next questions of "how?" and "what?" were never spoken, but she asked them somehow. She knew the trees shook for her; they'd done it in the past, but before it had only been a guess or desire. Now they did it because she felt something, and they expressed it for her.

The librarian didn't reach out to him, yet she didn't push him away. She was processing, sifting, trying to understand something she already understood without ever working to get to that point. It was difficult to simply accept when she'd worked so hard to find the answers in the past. Just knowing was something new.

"You needed to be whole." Simon said softly. He tilted his head to look at her. He longed to reach out and brush her dark hair from her eyes. To move it away from the points that he knew her ears would now have. But he would not touch. Not yet. "You have been living as only a part of what you are, Niklas. I couldn't let you think too much on it. You're too logical. You might have decided against it. I acted, and I don't regret it."

He looked up from her at the trees and silently delighted that she could use them already. That she was so very open to her surroundings now. That they would respond to and for her. And she the same for everything here.

"How, I'm sure you felt. It was an unlocking. Maybe more of a puzzle than a traditional lock. Putting the right edges together to get the whole picture. I've always seen it in you, sweets. I've always wanted to see what you had inside be what you were. But until now, it's been kept from me. I watched you grow up, aching to set you free."

Simon settled onto the grass to answer the last part. "You are fairy blood, Niklas Wright. Enough so that you have a faerie name. It'll come to you. You'll know it. You can't not. What you are is a key, a ... gateway, perhaps... a conduit. You and the Dreamlands are connected. Do you understand me, lovie?"

The wind, if it could be called that, picked up, and the trees shook with anger and fear. He had done something to her, and he had done it without permission. This was not the first time he'd taken liberties, but this was such a very large liberty. He had taken her reality and flipped it, much worse than the aliens or whatever they were had done to them.

Finally she looked up at him, her eyes changed as much as the rest of her. She wasn't glaring; she was still in too much shock. He had told her something she felt was true all along, but that didn't make the hearing it any easier. The storybook life she'd had, even if it was a darkly written one, was now more so. She had been changed to a mythical creature, the kind she was supposed to protect.

"You decided to play with me? Instead of break me, you remade me?" Her voice sounded odd. There was a music in it that hadn't been before. If it had come from another's mouth, she might have thought it deceptively beautiful; from her own, it was just odd.

"Why would you ache for my wholeness?" She leaned in; he looked different. She had known he was different, but he looked, felt different. She knew he was not human on a level she hadn't before, and it was frightening yet...

"You changed me."

"Niklas, you know better than to think I remade you, kitten. You were already this way. I merely shoved the bits into the order they were meant to be in."

Simon could understand her upset, he could. He had expected it, in addition. He could say the same thing over and over to her in a hundred different ways, and she'd ask again until it was settled in her own mind what had gone on.

"Why would I not? None of fairy blood should ever be forced to be anything less. You were less, Niklas. I could see the light inside of you, burning. I wanted your fire to breathe."

He sighed a little. "Yes, in a way I did. You are not the way you are used to being, but there's not really any change. Not in the way you're making it sound. I did not turn you into something you are not. You are not sitting before me as a tea kettle. You're a young woman of fairy blood who has been given her gifts back."

"Shoved." Niks's lips pursed at the word; there may have been a hint of brow furrowing. The word was violent, but then most births were. Her face stayed a little on the sour side as she realized she was rationalizing, giving him a way out. She didn't like that. He had done something to her without her permission, and she was fairly certain he wasn't at all sorry for it.

"You did not tell me. Why not tell me? So much of my life could be explained if I had known." She hoped that were the truth, yet it was quite possible that her extra bit of DNA wouldn't have mattered one bit. She would have had the same life with the same understanding of it. Perhaps a little less guilt for how she saw the world...probably not.

"I didn't know they'd been taken away. How can you be given something back you never knew existed?" She shivered as the breeze blew her hair just right to brush along her ear. It sent a thrill down her spine she wasn't sure she cared for. Questions and indignation were temporarily forgotten for other questions and growing self-awareness.

Her hand rose slowly to fix that errant lock or three of hair. Her own finger tips brushed at the tip of her ear, the small point, and the contact forced a gasp from her lips which was quickly followed by a "you bloody buggering bugger."

"You..." She was on her feet much quicker than she expected, and had to take a moment to reorient herself. Her body felt different, responded better, as if yes, it were finally fully hers. She glared at Simon before moving to where she believed a small pool waited for her.

"I don't understand." The face reflecting back from the water's surface was hers, yet it wasn't. There was an otherness that spoke of age and understanding, that spoke of wild days and nights of wanton abandon, that spoke of mystery beyond her ken, at least for now.

"That can't be me? She's beautiful." Her voice held the confused awe. She had no intention of becoming Narcissus there at the edge of a pool; she simply could not believe it, even as the reflection mirrored the way her hands moved over her face and moved her hair out of the way of now very sensitive...ear tips?

"Tell you so that you could tell the Tower?" Simon shook his head. "Tell you so that you could knot yourself up about it when I could do nothing to help? Tell you so that you could what, Niks? Just knowing has never been enough for you. You would have never been content with the mere fact of the information. What would you have done with it?"

The fairy watched Niks without saying anything as she discovered her ears, as she got up and moved so wonderfully. The grace that she had always hinted at was fully formed now. And Simon knew that he would see it as well in the waking world. What she was here would no longer be restricted to here. Oh, there would be things that wouldn't be allowed out there, of course, the magnificent glow about her would never translate, for example.

When she looked upon herself, Simon stood and moved to her. He approached slowly, letting her watch the reflection. When he reached Niks, he placed gentle hands on her shoulders, standing behind her and looking into that watery mirror, too. Simon reached around and up, touching her cheek softly.

"This is you, dearest." His voice was as light as the breeze, low and serious. "This is the face of you that I have always seen. This is what I knew was back there. You've always been beautiful, kitten. Even your human face was enchanting enough to draw a fairy. But this, this I saw under that, this has always ached to break out. All of what you are is free now."

Niks knew that the fairy was right. She would have told the Tower, and she would have wanted to know more, to understand who she was. Lowering herself down to kneel beside the pool, she finally reached out to touch the water's surface, jerking back when the water rippled. It was water, and that was her reflection. She sighed softly.

"I don't know what to think, Simon." She sounded almost lost as she looked up at him over her shoulder. She felt lost. One of her hands had returned to her ear, barely touching it. She wanted to feel without sending tiny shivers all over her body.

"How...will I have these? I can't hide these out there." Yes, she was more than a little worried. She didn't feel any sort of power; she felt different, felt a little less lost, but she didn't feel powerful. She couldn't hide like he could, could she?

"You need some time." He nodded.

Simon knew what she was feeling when she touched that ear. He felt it every time one of his own was brushed. His was a thousand times more intense, but what she was feeling now was a thousand times more intense than what she had felt before.

She would need time to get used to all of it.

"I recommend that you spend as much time as you can here, to get used to how you are now. The waking world is going to be overwhelming for you at first. I dare say that it's actually a good thing we're in a world that has no color. You'll have one less bombardment."

He was completely enchanted with the way that she moved.

"What you look like here won't be quite so obvious there. You'll be able to hide them better. They'll still be present. Anybody looking close enough will see. Your dog will know right away. Mikey will, too, more than certainly, but it's more a question on if he'll care. But I should think that your hair is long enough to cover them for the most part." Simon moved so that he could sit by the water next to her. "If you like, I can place a glamour over you in the waking world to make you a little less obvious. I would so hate to, as I think that everyone should see you as you are, but I will if you ask it of me."

"I cannot stay here. They'll worry. I'll fade away if I stay here." Her last few words had many meanings, and she didn't want any of them. Niks sighed softly, the world around them seem to do the same. It was a sort of reluctant acceptance, which was not to say she had completely accepted it. She had accepted that things had changed.

"Must you call him that?" Her brows furrowed a little as she looked at him, trying to discern what of her was fairy by having the full blooded thing before her.

"Who? Which of my parents had the fairy blood? Were they full blooded? Did you always know?" Evan was put aside; she did wonder where he was, and would until she saw him again, if she saw him again. "How long have you known me? Did you know them? You...you didn't have anything to do with their deaths, did you? You wouldn't hurt them to do this, right?" She couldn't believe that even at his cruelest that Simon would deny a child her parents, but then he had a habit of proving her beliefs so very wrong.

"Tell me a story, Simon." She moved closer, pausing now and then when her hair shifted in a certain way. Finally she settled in against his side, her fingers finding their way to his wings. "Tell me a story with truth, and tell me how I will be able to handle what has happened. You can even tell me how you'll win me over again, so that I'm not so very upset with you." Yes, theirs was an odd relationship, that she could say such things while her fingers trailed ever so lightly over the seemingly delicate wing.

She stretched a little to press a kiss to his cheek, her lips close now to his ear. "Do you have a fairy name?" She knew he did; if she had one, he had. It wasn't a secret so much as a suspicion that they had true names, most creatures of magic did. She was curious what is was.

"Time doesn't move here the same. You could stay here for days and only be gone there a night. Spend one waking world's night within the Dreamlands, Niks, if you won't do anything more. Oversleep, perhaps and don't get up until noon. You'll be able to know what time it is there, how long has passed. And you'll be able to extend your time here without altering anything there."

Simon waved away the question about Evan. She didn't like it, but she wasn't going to change the fairy on that matter. He knew truths that she didn't. Maybe eventually she would be able to see. Maybe she never would. And maybe the dog would never become what it was that he was. But Simon knew, and that was all that mattered.

"Your father, and no. He was not full blooded. He was not even half. I knew of what was in him, yes, I only met him a handful of times, but it was enough. I've known you since your birth, however, and have watched you since. I had nothing to do with their deaths. As much as I might have wanted you, I never would have done something so foul. There is too much pain involved in the loss of a parent, and it would be an unforgivable thing if you would find out. Their deaths are what they appear to be, and don't have my hand in them. From the moment I laid eyes on you - they sent me to your mother's side when she was having you, to lay protections and wards - I knew what you were. You shone for me like a beacon. I don't know if your father saw it too, I never spoke to him to discover if he knew what he held inside of himself."

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, holding onto her tightly. Glad for the contact. Glad that she was seeing past what he'd done enough to allow this. He played with the ends of her hair and looked at the water in front of them.

"You'll be able to handle this because I would not have done it if I didn't think you could. You know very well that you're a capable and strong woman, Niks. It will take a little adjustment, but you've already begun to accept. You're formidable. A power unlike others. I'm not speaking of your fairy blood, either. Just who you are. What you've grown up to be." Simon glanced down at her. "Why, with shiny baubles, of course."

He leaned so the kiss would be easier. "Of course I do. Your fairy name is something you must hold tight to, once it comes to you, it must be your greatest secret. Don't give it out freely. And never give it to anyone you don't know you can trust completely. Don't give it to creatures like those that run the Tower. Don't even let them know you're aware you know it."

Simon didn't know if they'd ever have to deal with the Tower again, but he'd managed to convince them that he didn't know his own fairy name. Since he'd grown up with humans, he convinced them that his original human name was all he knew. They didn't know - and never would - that he'd spent a hundred years knowing who he was before ever being placed in that cradle.

The librarian placed another kiss to his skin before sitting up to look at him, careful not to upset his hold on her too much. Her eyes narrowed, and there was a hint of mischief she couldn't hide.

"Shiny baubles? You mean you won't have my pretty bits of shiny anymore?" It was only a tease, and she felt only slightly possessive. She couldn't believe that she'd get so caught up in the silly frivilous things like her fairy did. No, she only had a fraction of fairy blood in her after all, right?

"Does that mean if I kiss you now, you'll have no power over me?" It was a nasty tease perhaps, but he deserved something for what he'd done. "You can't claim me even a little with one, mm?"

She'd heard what he said about the time, and she wasn't sure how it worked. She felt it to be true, yet it seemed a little out of her scope. How was she a human with a little fairy blood going to alter the state of reality, even if it were the reality of a dream? Time was time, wasn't it? She decided to let that go for now, to let it be nothing more than a notion; if she could make her stay longer, then she'd figure it out then. For now, she needed to see the fairy dance for forgiveness.

"Tell me truly. If our lips were to touch, if we were to embrace, you'd have no more power than Evan over me? No more pull outside what I want you to have?" Her eyes narrowed, warning him that he should speak the truth. Or try to anyway.

"Don't get me wrong, kitten. I won't be giving up anything of my own for you. You'll get your own little tidbits." He smirked at her. "And my kiss has more power behind it than yours does. You'll be able to resist some. But it might still be a danger to you. We'll have to see how well you settle into your blood before we test that out."

Simon had never considered what it might mean for her to be unlocked as she was. That she might not feel the needs for him if he did manage a kiss from her. It was both an elation and a sorrow. But she was his, in a way, now. Tied to him, if only because of what he'd done. And her life would be extended. He could spend time with her. He had time with her.

"I don't know, Niks. I truly don't. When full blooded fairies kiss there is no tangle like there is for humans. But I've had very little interpersonal dealings with the Fae Kin. It could be that you might be able to resist it all. It might be that you still feel a little bit of a pull. You'll know, though. As surely as you'll know your name, you'll know what you can withstand."

A small, strange, unkind smile wrapped his lips. "You may not want to kiss the infant now, ducks. It may have caused him issues previously anyway."

Niks blinked. Not from the lack of information, but the turn her questioning took. She sat back on her heels, pulling away from him. Her head tilted as she thought on this.

"Are you saying that even before now, if we were to kiss, he could be harmed?" Her brows furrowed. Simon knew the truth, he had to. This was just some awful game that the fairy was playing as pay back for their time in the cemetery. And in the Dreamlands. The Dreamlands wouldn't tell him all; they couldn't, could they?

"I could harm him now?" She actually looked..upset. "If he and I were to kiss?" The sky grew a little dark, and the trees shook. This was not good news.

"No, I'm...I'm not full blood. I..no. I couldn't. You..wouldn't be saying this because you don't want us to kiss, would you? You're not that devious." She looked at him. "No, you are." She had to think this one through; Evan hadn't seemed all that affected by the kiss, no more than any other male she'd had gotten remotely physical with. Then again, she hadn't seen him in longer than she liked. Though a kiss from a fairy wouldn't drive a human away, but a kiss from whatever she was and had been?

"The possibility was there. But it seems that the infant kept his sanity, so I doubt that any real damage was done." Which was a shame. "But now, yes. You could very well do to him what I could do. Not to the same level, but enough."

Simon sat back some, reaching for a bright yellow flower to place in her hair. "I wouldn't say it just to keep you from kissing him. That chance has passed. If I wanted to do something like that, I would have said it to you before the pair of you even had the chance. You risk, now, messing him up entirely."

He slid the flower behind her ear, knowing what she would feel as he did it. It wasn't a distraction so much a reminder of what she was now. She did have some power.

"You'll have to be careful of humans."

Niks's eyes dropped to the ground with this new knowledge, or new application of said knowledge. The brush of stem along her ear gave her yet another full body shiver, and she glared up at him.

"Would you mind not doing that? It's..." She tried to think of a word that would describe the feeling. It felt naughty and wonderful, guilty and guiltless. It felt as natural as it did unnatural. She looked at the fairy and hoped he understood. He had to understand; he had his own pair of sensitive ears after all. He had known the feeling much longer than she had.

"I don't know that I'll go around kissing humans willy nilly. I'm not that ridiculous or a slut, thank you." She hmphed softly, slipping back into his side. His ears and wings were just begging to be touched, even if the fairy didn't realize it.

"I have to get you a little in revenge, lamb." Simon grinned. "You've been doing this to me for ages."

He didn't think that she'd be tarting herself out or anything. But even just a slip could get a human in trouble. A game played without thinking. A kiss meant for a cheek that hit the wrong spot. Simon didn't explain this, he didn't feel that he had to.

The wings faded so that Simon could roll onto his back without worrying about them. He pulled Niks down too, because he wanted her to look up at the sky. Look into the tops of the trees that now responded to her. Hear the wind that she was now a part of more than she ever had been. He wanted her to see the Dreamlands around her.

He closed his eyes to listen.

"Ages? You're over exaggerating and you know it." Niks laughed softly, even if she wasn't sure she'd forgiven him. He didn't like to blow things out of proportion at times.

She was only a little resistant to the pull before she settled down beside him, curling up to him ever so slightly. Her eyes lifted to the sky, and she watched at the trees seemed to move in no particular direction at first. Her hand rested above the fairy's heart, and as she watched the world from beneath heavy lids, she started to notice that the tree tops were starting thrum, if such things were possible, to the fairy's heart beat.

The feeling within and without started to have a lulling effect. She felt so comfortable here, and for a moment, she wondered if one could actually take a nap in a land of dreams. She snuggled in closer to the fairy, her finger tips making soft slow circles over his heart. She simply closed her eyes and felt the breeze play over her skin, in what little she had for clothing, and with her hair. Now and then she'd tense beside him, her fingers curling against his chest. Yes, her ears were certainly going to be a problem.
