Snow! (Niks)
The big black wolf bounded through the snow, jumped into a snowbank, burst through the other side of it, and shook himself off before taking off running again. Evan didn't know how long he'd been doing this, he'd entirely lost track of time. The snow was glorious amounts of fun as a wolf. He liked it quite a bit when he was a man, but this was so much better. The smell of it was clean and crisp. The cold bit a little at his paws and nose, but the rest of him was quite comfortable due to the fur.

He threw himself onto his back and wiggled around in the white powder, his tongue lolling out of his mouth and his tail wagging wildly. He was attempting to make a snow wolf angel, but didn't know how well he was doing with it.

Waking up here had been wonderful. Mostly because it meant they weren't in a place where people might be trying to poach him. And where people weren't visiting to try to get a picture of the strange creatures that could shift their bodies into other things. Though he had to admit that it was nice getting to bond with Sam, and meeting Betsy. That meant two people who understood what he was going through, if in their own way.

Admittedly, he was still curious to see how tiny Betsy became an elephant.

Niks woke up, curled into some very snuggly bits of cotton covered down. She felt so warm and comfy, nothing had really changed. They had, but she didn't realize it until she came to completely. A few blinks and then a stare at what was definitely not the room she'd gone to sleep in. The smells of..cinnamon and nutmeg and baking were different too.

The librarian sat up slowly, turned to set her feet on the floor and stood. This was different, yet for the moment she didn't feel all that out of sorts. It felt oddly at home somehow.

She inspected the wardrobe and nearly laughed at the clothes there. They were definitely for her; not her oh so human self, but her more fae self. There was a little mischief to be had perhaps. A peek out the window at the snow and the decorations begged for it, that mischief. Certainly a complete lack of overthought and somberness.

Niks pulled on the thick tights and then the dress with its long skirt of layered fabrics. Whites and blues played in the skirt's varying fabrics and lengths. There were definite places that her legs would show through. The coat was nearly as long as the dress, and both fit from her hips up rather snuggly. The coat's hood and cuffs were trimmed in some sort of fur; she took a moment to hope that whatever it had been it had been killed fairly and not just for its soft fur. The librarian finished it off with a pair of fashionable yet functional boots and matching gloves.

With that she set out into the snow, avoiding the more populated areas. The snow called; it wanted to be played in or at least mussed a bit with footsteps.

Seemed she was not the only one. She didn't stifle the laugh as she caught sight of a large beast playing in the snow. It seemed to feel the same way she did. For the most part anyway.

If he'd not been playing so thoroughly, Evan might have noted the approach of another creature. But neither his nose nor his ears picked up on the fact that somebody else was there, and he continued playing in the snow, oblivious.

Her laugh is what alerted him, making him flip over onto his belly, though keeping low to the ground. Since it was a laugh and not a shout, he was not tense, just surprised.

When he noted that it was Niks laughing at him, Evan let his tongue loll out of his mouth, and he wagged his tail happily at her. She looked pretty all dressed up like she was. Like a fairy princess.

Evan waited for her to approach, knowing that even Niks might be a little intimidated by his size.

The librarian didn't move right away. She nudged the hood back to show her face better, just in case the wolf was something sentient. There was one she could think of, but she did her best not to hope too strongly for him. If it was him...he was a very large wolf indeed.

"Hello." She looked around to see if anyone was coming to claim this large beastie. "You're a pretty one, you know that?" Something about the eyes. There was definitely something about the eyes, and that little feeling she got around supernatural types suggested this was no ordinary very large black wolf.

"Yes, you probably do know that. Now, I'm going to come closer, yes?" She pulled up her skirt a bit to allow for better tromping through high drifts. She moved very slowly, pushing that bit of nervousness down. This thing could easily kill her. She had no magical power, and she'd not bothered with finding a weapon.

"I'm Niklas. Now, you could be who I hope you are, or you could be someone else. Or something else. So, I'm just going to talk to you, okay?" Her voice didn't shake; she'd been in dangerous and uncertain situations before. This was not new. The new part was the fact that the creature before her could be the shifting man of her..well, not her more lucid dreams.

She would have continued talking and walking, only one of the drifts was a little deeper than she expected. Her foot went much further down into the loose snow, and her graceful travels over the snow turned into a right not so proper face plant. She didn't get up right away; instead she lifted herself up enough to see just how far into the snow she'd gone.

"Lovely." Her leg was buried, and the way she landed had pulled her coat and skirt in awkward angles, catching it beneath her. At least she could push from the snow to look down. "Right, then."

He'd forgotten that Niks hadn't seen him like this before. It was a bit pleasing to have a secret that she wasn't sure of. And he liked the way she was talking to him. He just kept wagging his tail as she spoke, doing a silly little head twist when she said he was pretty. Of course he was pretty. Why would he be anything but?

She fell so quickly that Evan didn't have a chance to move. He stayed back until he was sure that she was okay, to assure that he didn't cause more panic. But when she was just annoyed at herself and the snow, he stood and stepped forward.

It appeared to him that the clothing was making her kind of stuck. Evan ducked down and wiggled himself under her arm, giving her something to grasp onto so she could right herself.

Niks went completely still for a moment as she realized the large beast was moving. Her eyes narrowed, but her whole being relaxed a little when she realized the black wolf was only coming to help.

"If you laugh at this, if you are Evan, I will show you no mercy." She didn't say more than that, just in case it wasn't the wolf she desired. It wouldn't do to have some random creature know the unlady like things she might say.

She held onto the wolf with one arm, gloved fingers curling into fur. She was careful not to pull too much, using him more for balance than anything. Eventually after some tugging and twisting, not just of her skirts, the librarian managed to roll over and sit on the snow. With a sigh she started dusting herself off.

"Some snow queen I'd make, mm?" The faekin smiled at the dark beast. "I'd be more of a snow jester. Prankster of ice, maker of merry snowballs." Her nose wrinkled, but she didn't mind that she looked a little graceless at the moment.

"Now, I suspect you understand me, and not my tone." She hadn't defaulted to baby talk with the wolf. He wasn't some dog after all. "So let's have a good look at you. Then perhaps we'll do something. Not sure what. Playing fetch seems a little demeaning. Bounding through snowdrifts seems a bad idea. Don't think I've twisted anything, but I'll probably twist something soon enough, yes?"

Evan was glad that Niks couldn't see that he was smiling, because he was. A huge grin. But he covered it with a pant so she wouldn't be able to guess too easy.

He helped her out of the snowbank and moved away until she settled herself. She might not think she made much of a snow queen, but he thought she looked beautiful. Everybody had clumsy days, didn't they?

She wanted to have a better look at him. Evan stood proudly and (he hoped) regally, for her inspection. He stopped panting, stopped being silly. Looked like the strong alpha he was. His blue eyes showing clearly in the midst of all the black fur.

It maybe wasn't befitting a wolf of his ilk, but playing fetch actually sounded kinda fun.

"You are bloody gorgeous." Niks pulled her legs up to wrap her arms around knees, chin on arms. Her head tilted slightly as she watched him. "Evan, if this is you, you are a naughty boy for not letting me see you this way before."

Her hand went up as if the wolf would say something back to her. "I know, you haven't had time. You haven't been able to see me, or timing has been awful. It's been quite an unpleasant time, to a point." She squirmed a bit to touch the wolf's nose. Just a touch.

"You have ..." Her head leaned forward to let her get a better look into his eyes. "You do have his eyes. Your eyes, mm?" Her brow rose.

"You are a beautiful man, and a beautiful wolf." Her hands slid to cup the wolf's face. If he didn't move away. "If this is you. Otherwise, I'm sure you're a very lovely man. If you are Evan, my darling - yes, darling - then how long would you like to play before I get to see your face?"

Proud, Evan let Niks fawn over him longer than he might have another time. He adjusted himself twice so she could see all of him, and perhaps praise him some more. He wasn't as vain as the fairy, by any means, but he was certainly giving the prick a run for his money at the moment.

He edged into her touch, happy.

Happier still when she called him darling.

Oh, what might that mean?

Evan looked around them at the snow. He wasn't about to change here. Even with his added warmth, the snow was going to be cold without the fur to protect him. And he kind of wanted to play - actually play - with Niks before he gave up the game.

So he just gave a low, brief gruff of a noise.

Niks smiled at the noise, hoping it was a good one. Her hands lifted to rub between his ears and then at his ears. Just a soft bit before she started scratching around the base of an ear as well as at his jaw. He really was a pretty wolf.

"Okay, let's see what we can do." She laughed softly, and avoiding reaching out for the wolf - well too much - she found her way to her feet. Once she stood, she buried her gloved fingers back into his fur. She imagined snuggling up to this warm fur body, and the thought didn't bother her one bit.

"Fetch? Do wolves fetch? Do werewolves fetch? I know you hunt, but I'd be at disadvantage in this and here. Elsewhere..." She crouched down carefully to look in the eyes that were very familiar. "There are places I could give you quite the challenge." She smiled at him before giving a wink and standing once more.

"You could show me what works for a bit of fun, yes?" She continued to rub and scratch as best her gloves would allow.

Fetch. Fetch worked. Evan was very interested in that. He turned away from Niks and bounded through the snow to a small tree. It took him no effort to rip off the lowest branch and bring it back. It might have been a little large to play fetch with, but his tail was wagging wildly.

He dropped the branch at her feet and then sat down, tail still wagging. Tongue hanging out. He knew that she knew he was not a threat, but everything he could do to reassure her of it he was doing.

Niks' brows rose at wolf's readiness to play. To really play fetch. She laughed as she stood and waited for the large beast to return with a large piece of wood. The wolf was rather excited to play, which didn't bother her even a little bit. She crouched down, took the time to pick off a few of the smaller bits that might get in the way.

"Okay, Mr. Fluffypants." She smirked down at the wolf. "That will be your name until you have a proper one. Or perhaps Sir Fluffsalot?" She pushed the hood from her hair, which might have sparkled a little in the air; it certainly shined. She felt the magic in this place, and it seemed to agree with her.

"Perhaps Runs with Fluffy Tail?" Niks truly hoped the man within the wolf was a particular artifact hunter. He'd understand the teasing. She finally lifted then set it down with a sigh.

"My darling wolf, you've picked something a little large to throw. One moment." She hiked her skirt up a bit, and with a bit of a grunt, she broke the branch in two with a well placed stomp of a booted foot. "There we go. Now let the games begin!"

She wasn't one of those who teased by acting as if the branch was thrown when it clearly wasn't. Not at first anyway. She shifted the weight of the stick, finding a good hold, then flung it, much like a spear. She reasoned it would go further if it didn't topple end over end; she didn't expect it to go far even thrown that way though. Just far enough to let him actually get a bit of a run both ways.

Evan snorted at Mr Fluffypants. But wagged his tail to Sir Fluffsalot. That was a fun name. Runs With Fluffy Tail was not quite as fun, as it was a mouthful.

He sat and waited while Niks made the branch into something a little easier for her to handle. His paws prancing a little bit in the snow in anticipation. He lifted his butt when it seemed like she was going to throw, and sat back down as she broke the branch into a smaller piece.

As soon as it was in the air, Evan was off, chasing. He kicked up big chunks of the white powder, his eyes on the stick the whole time. There was a monumental leap up and he caught it in mid air before it got too far through the downward arc.

Then he was running back to place it at her feet.

"Sir Fluffsalot, mm?" Niks had to laugh, and when he caught the stick in the air, she clapped and hooted, not at all minding that she had just been sprayed by kicked up snow.

"Well done, Sir Fluffsalot." The name would be used in other situations, she was now sure of that, but she'd be nice and try to keep the name from a certain pair of pointed ears. She picked up the stick, thankful that she was wearing gloves and wouldn't feel any drool/slobber.

"Let's see." She crouched down, and with little warning other than her words, she reached out to hold his muzzle. Just a loose hold. "Mmm. What big mouth you have, Sir. Let's see how quickly you can fetch two, yes?"

She didn't let go, not that she was holding on tightly. She leaned forward and placed a kiss just above his nose. "What would that fur feel like on naked skin, I wonder." From others, her words may seem seductive or an attempt at seduction. From her, it was quite possibly pure curiosity. She let go, grabbed the second stick, and stood.

"Ready?"

The trick of this was not being able to reply verbally to Niks. Evan wasn't quite used to it, and found himself opening his mouth to tell her his thoughts, then covering it up with some panting.

He didn't squirm when she held his face, though he was sure that other wolves probably wouldn't feel so comfortable with the action. And sure, if somebody else tried to do it, he wouldn't have tolerated it.

He wagged his tail at the kiss, and paused entirely at her mention of being naked. Evan had no idea what she meant by it, but his mind whirled and imagined and shut off for a moment.

When she was ready to throw the stick though, he shook himself and focused on the current moment again. His tail wagged harder.

Niks smiled at down at the wolf; she liked the idea of having a wolf of her very own. She wanted to snuggle into that dark fur and just know him as a wolf. Oh, there were some who might wonder just how well she'd like to know the wolf, and even on her kinkier days, bestiality wasn't really her ideal way to spend an evening. She just wanted to be close and more natural with the large beastie. The smile suggested she'd wandered down a mental path.

It wasn't a very long path. The tail wagging was enough to focus her; the librarian actually laughed. "Oh, my darling wolf, you should be careful, or else you'll wag your back half right off." She blew him a quick kiss before sending first one then the other stick flying.

"I'll time you." She could count out how long it took him to get the sticks. Catching one in the air suggested it wouldn't be long. She wondered how long she could throw and how long he'd fetch. As much fun as it was, she did want to have an actual conversation with the man.

He liked her laugh. He liked it a lot. It made his tail wag faster.

But then Niks let go of not just one stick, but two. He was after them quickly. The first he caught in the air like he'd done before. The second he had to let land. He ran at it as fast as he could, and worked to fit both into his mouth at the same time. It was awkward and difficult. He struggled at it for a long while before he realized that he had to carry one by a tiny offshoot nub.

As he returned, Evan was holding one stick proudly, the other dragged between his legs. Which made him walk awkwardly. He dropped them both at her feet.

He felt like he could play for the rest of the afternoon. The look on Niks' face when he returned though, made it seem as if she could not. She looked contemplative and distracted. Also, a little cold. Evan realized that she didn't have the giant coat of fur to keep her insulated like he was being. He barely felt the snow anywhere but on the pads of his feet and his nose.

Instead of waiting for her to pick up the branches again, Evan padded a little way away from her and glanced back. He'd lead her to his cabin if she followed.

Niks clapped first at the catch then as the wolf found a carry both of the sticks. She had started to bend down to pick up a stick when the wolf seemed ready to find a new amusement. She stood, brows lifted in question. She could have played longer, not much longer. She did love the cold, but the outfit she wore was more for looks - or so parts of her were starting to say.

She looked down at the sticks before shrugging and settling in to follow the wolf wherever he might lead. Now and then she had to stop to pull some part of her dress or coat from the snow.

"This will teach me. Trying to be some silly snow queen, yes?" She was smiling though. She followed the wolf to a cabin and paused. It wasn't hers; she knew that much.

"Yours?" She motioned to the dwelling before looking down at the wolf. "It has a fireplace?" As if the wolf could tell her; perhaps in his way he could. She looked down at the coat, the bottom of which now a different color from the wet snow. Her boots, skirt, and tights were all soaked by now. She felt a little embarrassed that she might bring wet and cold into another person's home. Not that she said anything about it. Not yet.

Evan snorted, wagged his tail. Of course it was his. And of course it had a fireplace. He imagined all the little cabins did. Or they should. They were cabins in the snow. They wouldn't be worth much if they weren't all equipped with at least one fireplace.

He shouldered through the door, having left it open just enough so the latch wouldn't catch, and led Niks inside. The fire was going, though he wasn't sure he remembered it doing that when he'd left. He hadn't actually paid much attention, he'd just unclothed himself and bounded out into the wonderful snow.

Immediately, he darted into another room so he could change and put those clothes back on. Niks didn't need to see him nude.

Evan returned with a pair of jeans and sweater on, carrying a large blanket made of some super soft material.

"I trust you won't be sharing that interaction with anybody." He smiled a little.

Niks followed in, and she couldn't help laughing softly as the wolf disappeared only to have a very human and dressed Evan. So, she had guessed correctly. She did know who he was after all.

"What? I shouldn't tell people you like being called 'Sir Fluffsalot' or playing fetch?" She wouldn't do that to him; she knew that some people or a fairy in particular would use that against him. She didn't want to give Simon any ammunition to use against the wolf after all.

Without asking permission, she started slipping out of her coat, which would be followed by boots. Her nose wrinkled as she finally felt the wet tights and skirt.

"You wouldn't have something I might put on." She was rather happy that there was a fire, and she hoped that there might be something to drink or eat. Though at the moment all she wanted to do was snuggle up with him. Snuggling with the wolf in any for seemed like a wonderful idea. "That's a little too forward, isn't it?" She doubted the artifact hunter would be bothered that much by her in his things. Or even by her asking to wear something of his. She gave him a little smile.

"You know you are a truly beautiful beast." It was only a slight change in subject. For the moment she remained at near the door, waiting to see if she'd be lucky enough to change or at least get out of her wet things.

He felt like a heel, not having thought of her wanting to change. When she said it, it was obvious. They'd been out in the snow, her clothes would be damp at best. He nodded and turned around mid-stride to go back into the bedroom and get her something. Evan returned with a pair of jammie pants and a sweatshirt that he knew she would swim in. He'd laid a pair of socks on the top, and there was a towel over his shoulder. There was no mention that he didn't think it was forward, since it was common sense, and he'd missed out on it. Evan thought it was far more presumptuous to imagine she wouldn't want to change.

"Yes, please don't tell anybody that." Though he knew that she wouldn't. She wasn't malicious like that. The teasing was fun, however.

He blushed a little, in precisely the way that he couldn't do with the fur, and averted his eyes. "Thank you."

"You knew that already, didn't you?" The librarian's brow rose. She might have meant the sharing of information, or she might have meant how attractive he was. "Both with and without fur, yes?"

She lifted a hand and made motion for him to turn around. "I am not dragging my wet things through your place; I am also not going to give you a show, my darling. Unless you'd like to partake in mutual nakedness?"

She did start to pull skirt up. She wouldn't let him see much more than a bit of tight covered thigh, but it was fun to tease the artifact hunter in all ways. She liked to see that blush as well.

"Of course, that might make things difficult. How are we going to keep our wits about us? You a very attractive man, and I..well, I'm passably fair perhaps." Her hands had disappeared now high under skirt, and she started wiggling her hips a bit to work the tights down.

"I may be quite capable of doing so, but I would not want to make you think poorly of me. Not after our last...interaction." She paused and looked up at him, a look of real concern in her eyes. She stopped what she was doing to let her skirt drop back into place. She could tease with the best of them, but this was much more important. They needed to have this discussion, didn't they?

"I want to apologize for that, Evan. I still want those things and so much from with you, but I was not myself, not exactly. I am sorry for putting you in a such a situation. Will you forgive me?" She didn't reach for the clothes he had gathered for her. Instead she stood before him, hoping the werewolf would really forgive her.

"Well..." Evan had prepped himself to deny it, but couldn't finish the thought. She knew better than that. He wasn't a totally vain creature, he'd never live up to the sort of self confidence and unwavering certainty of somebody like, say, Simon. Or Betsy. But he knew he was an attractive man, and he was aware that he was a beautiful wolf. Instead of completing what he was saying, Evan shrugged and turned around so that Niks could get changed.

He thought about leaving the room entirely for her, then she kept talking. He listened, not answering anything to the mutual nakedness suggestion, because he was quite sure that she knew how he felt on that matter. Not that she gave him time to answer. Niklas kept talking, he wanted to interrupt again when she said she was just passably fair. She had to know that she was more than that. Didn't she?

Again, she didn't really give him room to speak, and all speech was wiped away entirely when she mentioned their last interaction. It had gone so horribly wrong.

Evan turned his head so she would know that he was listening, but not far enough that he'd see anything.

"Only if you'll forgive me for not being more tactful." He hoped that these, his only words, were seen as sincere as he meant them, despite his mildly light tone.

"As much as I know you're capable of talking yourself in and out of things, tact is not something I'd expect from you. Certainly not when it came to you yourself and not a job. You're honest and forthright. I've always liked that about you." Niks was talking. She knew she should stop, but she couldn't seem to. At least she wasn't asking questions.

She got out of the tights easily enough. The dress was a little more difficult, but damn if she hadn't gotten herself into it, she could bloody well get herself out of it. Her attention to the dress caused a brief quiet to settle, other than the softly muttered curse words. There was a hiss as something might have ripped and then a thud of heavy dress on the floor.

"Well, damn."

Eventually she was completely out of the beautiful and only partially silly outfit and into the clothes he brought her, including the socks. The clothes smelled like him, wolf and all. She walked up behind him and slid her arms around him; if he didn't move, she'd rest her cheek against the back of his shoulder. Her hands remained in a very chaste place just above his stomach.

"I forgive you all the same."

Niks was talking, but Evan was doing his best to not hear anything past her words. Hearing would mean he knew what she was doing, knowing would mean picturing. He didn't need to be picturing Niks' actions right now. Not during this conversation. Not until they'd both determined what needed to be done for them to be settled.

So he was surprised by the warmth of her against his back, and her arms around his torso. He hadn't expected it, and had been focused so adamantly on not hearing that he hadn't noticed her movements across the room.

"Thank you." His voice was low and gravely. Evan's hand moved to hers to trap her where she was. He wasn't entirely sure they needed to be any closer than what they were at the moment, so he was going to make the moment last as long as physically possible.

"You're warm." Niks might have purred a little as she spoke. Not exactly a cat sound, definitely not human. She kissed his shoulder before putting her head back very carefully down against him. She sighed softly, snuggling as up to him as best she could from this spot.

"We should talk, shouldn't we?" She laughed softly. She wanted to ask if he forgave her, but she supposed if she'd forgiven him, he was contracted to forgive her. His words after all.

"Evan," Her head lifted, chin caught on his shoulder; her voice soft as her lips were so close to his ear. He wasn't that much taller than she was if at all. She nuzzled a little near his ear. "I have good news for you, though it doesn't mean we shouldn't talk.

"My darling wolf, you are immune to my...troublesome allure." She laughed softly. "Or more my kiss anyway." She softly squeezed him and nuzzled into his neck. There was a soft hiss and slight digging of nails as she brushed an ear tip. She thought she was being careful.

"Dammit." Her body stiffened as she tried not to follow the thoughts and desires that sprang up, or more came to the fore. They never went away. She sighed, this time resting her forehead against his shoulder.

"Sorry."

"I run hotter now." He explained. He'd been warm before, but now he was like his own personal furnace. He hardly needed covers when he slept, even in dead winter. It was just habit and his liking the way they felt that kept him trying to use them.

Evan was intrigued by Niks' news that he was immune to her kiss. That had been a concern for them both. It was good to know. Though he was sure that he'd become addicted to her anyway. Maybe not a physical addiction, but it was there.

"Are you okay?" He turned a little to see her better, thinking that Niks had hurt herself.

The librarian laughed softly as her head lifted, and she pressed a kiss to his shoulder. Her eyes shined, showing that she was in no pain; she was amused by the artifact hunter's concern - it was sweet. Her fingers squeezed his the best they could.

"Ears." Her nose wrinkled a little, just a hint of lip purse, to show her annoyance at it. "Still sensitive. I could give you any number of ways to think of it, but I'm afraid they'd all end up a little on the randier side. I'm doing my best to behave.

"Perhaps we should sit, a little space between us, to be safe? Though I do like how you feel." Her lids grew heavy as she snuggled into him, a soft sigh slipped her lips.

"Perhaps we could sit yet hold hands?" Not touching him seemed a punishment, so she could have that, couldn't she?

"Ah." He nodded. He could only guess how difficult that was to get used to. There were overwhelming things that he had to adjust to in his own life, but they were all sensory. Evan could sit in a dark room and not have to worry too much. If Niks sat in a dark room, she could still accidentally touch her ears.

In answer to her question, Evan took her hand and guided her over to the couch, where he sat down close enough so that they didn't have to break contact, but far enough that neither of them would be too tempted to do anything.

"So what is it that we need to talk about?"

Niks followed easily enough, a smile on her lips. She squeezed Evan's fingers, surprised that he would be so willing. She was more surprised that she would have to explain what they might need to discuss. The surprise shifted to a little smile; she supposed she'd was going to have to start this.

"The talk of who, what, when and where." She laughed softly, realizing that she couldn't just come right out and say it. Her leg softly rested against his, her hand on his.

"My darling wolf, we need to talk about us. You fear ripping me to shreds in the throes of ecstacy, and I fear ripping your heart out in my now fae fickle nature." She smiled slightly. "Perhaps that isn't all, but we have a strong connection. I don't wish to put it off, for denying ourselves will only make the longing worse. I'm rather tired of longing and not acting on it, aren't you?

"Yes," her free hand lifted as if to stay any argument or comment. "I know I was the one who put it all on hold, but I was wrong. Or more the reasons I put acting on our attractions on hold no longer matter. They may never matter again."

"I ... what do you mean they no longer matter and may never matter again?" Evan spoke carefully, his mind filled with the memory of how he'd misspoken the last time and how angry and hurt Niks had been because of his words. He was determined to not make that mistake again. He actually didn't want to hurt her in any way ever again.

"I mean, I'm ... I'm still pretty concerned about my part of it, the whole ripping you to shreds. Less so since I've ... had some... memories... surface, but you have to understand that the last thing I want to do is be the source of any pain. Physical or otherwise. I need you to understand that and know if I have to stop something, it's not you. It's really really really really not you. Really."

"We were Tower. We were watched by, directed by, and in some ways owned by the Tower. We are no longer concerned with them. If the aliens are telling the truth, we will eventually find ourselves back in the Tower's control, but..." Niks' hand lifted with his, turning his palm up. "We will not be the same. They would have to unmake us in so many ways. They might; we would return to what we were, and we would be back there. We would not be who are now." Her nose wrinkled. She'd had a point when she started.

"We are not those people, I suppose is what I'm saying. We are new creatures." That sounded much better. The laughter in her voice said she liked what she said.

"Evan, you are going to hurt me. And I will hurt you." The laughter gone; a sad smile settled on her lips and her eyes. "I do not wish it; I would not want to hurt you for all the world, but we are flawed creatures in our perfection." She sighed and shook her head.

"I can't seem to talk around you. I can, but it always comes out either extremely lusty and inappropriate or so very lofty I seem too removed." She carefully set her head against the couch. Slow and deliberate.

"I understand we need to go slow. I do not want to. I want to feel the animal you are," her cheeks grew rosy as she quickly added. "Not in the literal sense. I don't think." She took a beat or two as if deciding. "No.

"Figuratively. I want to know you in all ways, but I will be as patient as I can be." She laughed softly. "The good thing is...we have time. A good deal of it."

"I gotta be honest," Evan said a little sheepishly. "The Tower and our respective places in it were never really a concern for me. But, I've never really ... been a part of them the way they wanted me to. I did it because they funded me. Gave me leave to find the shit I wanted to find and every once in a while sent me to seek out something they wanted."

He had known, though, that it was an issue for her.

"Maybe we can't stop from hurting one another emotionally, or psychologically, but I can do everything in my power to keep from hurting you physically. I'm glad you understand that stipulation, cause it's kind of a deal breaker for me." He didn't think he'd be able to live with himself if he hurt anybody in that manner. He was very glad he hadn't hurt Jack. If he'd known then what he was, he wouldn't have risked it.

"Ah, yeah. No. Knowing the wolf in that way is just not going to happen." He shook his head, grateful that she'd come to that conclusion herself.

"I thought that one of the main concerns here was the fairy and what he might do to me."

"We'll figure it out," Niks said softly, her free hand trailing slowly up and down Evan's arm. She just wanted to touch him at that moment. Mentioning Simon though...

"He will be unpredictable. He may act out at times, and we cannot stop him from doing that. But, he has to accept that you are someone I care for deeply. Someone I want in my life, someone I hope to be very close to." She wanted to tell him she loved him. She wanted to say that she loved Simon as well. She stopped before all that. Wolves were different creatures, weren't they? They mated for life, but Evan wasn't just a wolf. He was a man and wolf.

"Let's not think about him right now. Let's talk about anything else." She sat up and smiled a little.

"You may be able to push him off so easy, Niks, but the man has made threats to my life and well being. He hates me, and doesn't hide that fact. If you're not going to be concerned about it, then I'll just have to be concerned for the both of us."

He already was, so it wasn't exactly pushing anything further. Her nonchalance about the whole matter was a little strange, he thought. Or was it? It did fit into her new fae-ish way of looking at the world.

What she said about wanting him in her life, wanting to be very close to - hoping, that was the word she used - sank deep into Evan's brain.

"What do you want to talk about?"
