Characters: Andromeda Black, Hestia Jones
Setting: Sunday early afternoon, October 10 | Greenhouse #2
Content: SFW
Summary: At Ted's request, Hestia reaches out to Andromeda. They agree to meet in the greenhouse to go over Herbology homework and have lunch.

As soon as she agreed on a time and place with Andromeda, Hestia swiftly packed up her knapsack, making a mental checklist of what to bring. Papers? Check. Quill? Check. Notebook? Check. Textbook? Check. Food? Whoops. She walked over to the kitchens, as she had to quickly pick up some food before scurrying over to the greenhouses. She didn't want to be late, and furthermore, she wanted to make a good impression.

As she opened the door to the kitchens, she was greeted by one of her favourite house elves, Hattie. She waved happily at the elf. "Hattie, dear, would you perchance happen to have two spare sandwiches available?" she asked the elf.

"Sure thing, Miss Hestia! Two sandwiches coming up!" the elf chirped before dashing off to bring the food.

As Hattie went to fetch the sandwiches, Hestia's mind wandered off to Andromeda. She didn't know much about her, other than the fact that she was a Slytherin and she was in Book Club and a few other classes with her. On second thought, she was a Black, and admittedly, most of the rumours that Hestia had heard didn't exactly paint the family in a positive light. But try as she might have, Hestia hadn't heard anything suspicious about Andromeda herself. And come to think of it, Dorcas was great friends with Andromeda's younger sister, Narcissa. Not only that, Ted was a nice bloke, and she trusted his taste in company. If Ted could attest to Andromeda's good qualities, then maybe all those rumours about Andromeda's family were just that -- insubstantial rumours. It wouldn't be fair to write her or her siblings off just because of gossip. And hadn't Andromeda seemed rather cordial and pleasant when they had interacted?

"Hattie has brought two sandwiches just for you, Miss Hestia!" Hestia found her train of thought interrupted by the house elf, who presented a generous helping of sandwiches wrapped in a bag.

"Wonderful, Hattie! You're the best!" exclaimed Hestia, as she took the bag and hastily placed it in the front pocket of her backpack. "I have to run, but thank you so much!" She blew a kiss before making her way to the second greenhouse, food and homework in tow. Sure enough, Andromeda was waiting for her at the spare table. Phew.

"Hi, Andromeda!" Hestia greeted, as she waved at her. "My apologies for being a bit late." She caught her breath before quickly unpacking her backpack. She opened the bag of sandwiches and laid the food out on the table. "Care for a sandwich?" she kindly asked Andromeda with a broad grin. "I managed to knick a few from the kitchens."

"That's so nice of him," said Hestia, in between bites of her sandwich. She had only ever known of Severus Snape through her Lily, and nobody really painted him in a positive light. Truth be told, Hestia hardly knew anything substantial about him to be able to make a fair judgement of the boy. "I'm sure he'll like the biscuits!"

As she noticed Andromeda open her Herbology text, Hestia took it as a cue and gingerly opened her book, flipping through the earmarked pages for the Devil's Snare chapter. Admittedly, she didn't actually have trouble with the assignment, but the class was one of the few things that she had in common with Andromeda. As Andromeda mentioned how her sister had a knack for matchmaking, Hestia burst out laughing with her. A rather odd mental image of Narcissa Black offering her personalized matchmaking service? Now that was something! "Who knows, it could be a profitable venture!" she exclaimed cheekily.

"Minus the quill, sounds like a pretty good weekend," remarked Hestia. As Andromeda explained the situation with the Slytherin students, Hestia could sympathize. Since receiving the Prefect badge, she had seen more than a bundle of underclassmen struggling under the weight of their classes. "It's a lot like that with the Hufflepuffs too! It'll be the first week of classes, and next thing you know, everybody's losing sleep over the first Potions essay. It only gets worse from there," she explained, nodding in agreement with Andromeda. "Eugh, OWLs." She did a mock shudder and let out a laugh. She could certainly relate to the poor kids; after all, she herself had spent many an all-nighter reviewing her ingredients by name. If she rummaged hard enough in her trunk, she could probably find a neatly-bound stack of flashcards that she had made for all of her subjects last year. "I think I've erased that entire testing week from my memory. I think one poor girl had a nervous breakdown, even. I shudder to think of how this year's fifth years will manage come springtime."

"Heh, I saw his entry. I suppose I can see where he's coming from, though he's really going to have to avoid everybody's journals for the next few weeks." She grinned at that last remark, but her smile faltered as she noticed that Andromeda's expression was slightly downcast. "I'm sorry to hear that," she said softly. "Are you required to spend the entire dance by his side?" she asked with an open curiosity. She wondered if that was the mode de rigueur -- was Andromeda forced to be courted by Damocles? Was that how traditional pureblood customs worked? She wondered how the semantics of pureblood arrangements worked; was this part of a grander scheme for betrothal? She could hardly fathom putting herself in a situation where she was forced to find a suitable partner. Her grandmother -- her only guardian -- probably wouldn't have minded at all; after all, she had let her son marry a Muggle woman. She had always associated the pureblood elite with privilege, but the more she mused on the topic of dating and marriage, the more restricting it seemed.

"Nah, I actually don't have a date," she answered, shrugging her shoulders. "I haven't really gotten around to that yet, though I might go with a group of friends. The dance should be fun regardless."
